Genzou is the food stand that serves various seafoods of Matsushima gulf at a reasonable price. It is located in front of the "Godaido" where is the most famous sightseeing spot in the town. Enjoy the most popular BBQ oyster menu. If you love Japanese sak
Genzo is essentially a snack food stand with seafood. It is right by the ferries that go around the picturesque Matsushima Bay.I had the oyster chowder. The oysters are delicious and obviously very fresh. The soup, however, was a bit bland. It was thin and not as creamy as I would have liked. It was basically some of the best oysters, I've had, in one of the worst chowders, I've had. Too bad.

Upon entering we could smell old cigarettes but we thought it was just stale from customers who had passed through. We took a seat and then we looked around and there were locals enjoying their lunch and we knew the food would be great. However we then saw cigarette smoke bellowing around the smallish restaurant space and we had to leave. I apologised and said I have asthma but in actual fact cigarette smoke is just rank. Especially in an eating environment. I understand this is a tradition of the venue but as times change something's should too. Disappointed because the food looks great but we just couldn't stay.

Best Sushi on Earth, from the point of view of a spanish guy... It is highly recommended and one must be early enough to find a place. Sitting at the bar is a spectacle. I was there in 2010 and I still remember.

The last restaurant before Fukuurajima and a bit away from the tourist bustle and almost the only one not hassling tourists to try their oysters. There are two Western-style tables at the window with a view over the fish tanks and car park to the bay, otherwise kneel in the tatami room. Sushi selection was not as fresh as the live fish swimming in front of you would suggest, or as well-made as the prices would predict.

I visited on Saturday 3 Oct 2015. Read reviews on this place and saw it featured on the tourism website and brochures. Did my homework and followed google maps to walk to this place from the station. Blue dot on google maps said I have reached but there was no bustling oyster restaurant with long queues to be seen.Found this sad place with a sign that said that they are closed. Looking inside the place, it looked like it had not operated as a restaurant for some time and was messy.Another couple came by just as I was taking the photo and was also surprised that the place was closed.I don't know if it's only closed for the day or I went during a season where it's not open but I was sorely disappointed.

Had lunch twice at the Matsushima fish market because the sushi was so great and a good deal! The fish market also had a range of food prepackaged for easy travel and shipping. I was able to find a rare item (i.e., smoked takuan) there which I was so excited to find! To order your food, you can either use the vending machine to order or order your food at the cashier. You will receive a number, and your food will be delivered to the second floor. Someone will shout out your number and you then collect your lunch from them. On the second floor, you can also help yourself to free tea or water, and vending machines are available for additional drinks. You must bus your own table when you're done eating. Be aware that in Japan, trash is separated (e.g., by recyclables, things that can be burned and other trash), so pay attention to various bins. Thank You very much for coming in Matsushima Seafood Market. We will try to maintain the Best Quality & more service to be satisfied all the Guest. We always serve fresh seafood daily. Thank You Very Much,We Hope to see you again. Thank You! By: Matsushima Management Atsushi Ota
