As a frequent visitor to Lucca, I have my favourite restaurants - but decided to try this new restaurant. I had booked a table outside on the terrace facing the Puccini museum. The service was great - and the food served, while typical of Tuscan food & Lucca specialities - had a special twist, superbly presented in the plate, and really delicious. This place will join my list of favourite restaurants!

A meal here is an exceptional experience - the each evening's set menu allows ingredients to shine. The wines on offer allow a good complement. The service is warm and friendly. The assortment of torte desserts a nice summary to a great dining experience. The friendly service and owners' attention to the curiosity of the diners about the dishes and their preparation was a pleasure to experience.

We live on the next door hill, and have been bringing friends (of all nations) here for a few years now. Without exception they have been wowed by the blend of Tuscan basics and Japanese subtlety. Not everything is to everyone's taste. But it is all so interesting and so unusual, and we keep coming back. The highlight last night was the green risotto with raw red prawns; and the tempura of vegetables and fish, followed by ravioli stuffed with ricotta and Parmesan with scallops in a white wine sauce. Also the beef tartare with a black oyster and garlic sauce. Everyone should try this place at least once. Not cheap, but anywhere else this would have rosettes and cost you twice as much

A delightful place for dinner. The falafel appetizer is subtly spiced and savory. The "Ever Been in Thailand" is a dinner salad with wonderfully seasoned beef strips. The lime-mint semifreddo was incredibly refreshing. You really should check this little gem out, a bit off the beaten track but well worth the visit. Highly recommended. One other thing -- a times they will have live music as well.

We visit Tuscany and Lucchesia on a yearly basis and returned to Ristorante Forino in October. We were reminded of the simple elegance of their cuisine and cordial service. They really set the standard in our opinion. The "warm seafood appetizers" were delicious, as were the seafood pastas and the lightest frittura di pesce ever. Every course was delectable and I understood anew why my relatives regard this place as the best fish restaurant in the region. How it is possible for the service to barely surpass the exquisite cuisine is a testimonial. Forino is not just in a class by itself in Lucchesia. It is world class. By the way the atmosphere is very pleasant as well.

We were a group of 18, so the chef had proposed a fixed menu for us. We all love seafood, so we agreed on that. Wow! a beautiful antipasto of 4 carefully prepared different fishy items, simply delicious, oh I forgot, a nice glass of Prosecco to start with! after the antipasto, a dish of seafood pappardelle. Pasta made in house, with plenty of bite and heft as you would expect from rustic pappardelle. Very good. And to follow, an expertly prepared fillet prepared with artichokes, and an earthy little mousse of glowing squash. We could barely manage dessert, but had to, it was so good! The little one with us was treated beautifully, ate little, but it was exactly to her taste, with icecream brought to her at the end. Friendly competant service, beautiful and relaxing ambience, definitely an evening of excellent 'new' Italian food. This young chef is worth watching, Diego Ricci, look for that name!(go soon, while prices are still good!)

Osteria Canaiolo is located inside the park Hotel Hambros in Lunata a few kilometers from the city of Lucca
We had dinner here tonight and it was delicious. As we arrived there were people standing out side on the terrace. It felt more friendly and local than touristy. The service was friendly and open - and the host (owner?) speaks english. We stupidly forgot to ask his name. The food was simply divine. We had two pasta primo - green ravioli with ricotta and a seafood carbonari. For secondi I had a tuna in a Japanese style and my brother had beef. The tuna was delicious with a flavour I wasn't expecting and the beef was melt in your mouth perfect, tender and flavourful. My sister had the fish and chips and they were happy to do it grilled for her. There was a family group of 22 plus another group of maybe 8, and a few smaller tables like ours and they seemed to do very well bringing out food for the whole table at the same time. Because of the large group the service was a little slow, particularly to get our bill, but we totally understand the challenge of such a large group and agreed that they handled it very well. Definitely recommend if you're in the area and want a delicious meal, reasonable price and friendly, tasteful atmosphere.

This is supposed to be a Michelin star restaurant and the food is of that quality. Unfortunately the service is woefully lacking. The Maitre Dâ is aloof and seems to be overwhelmed with his responsibility. 8 of us had a fine lunch and the food was very well prepared. However, several times during our meal we were required to get up and refill our wine glasses. The staff seemed not to notice empty wine glasses. This despite the fact we consumed 6 bottles of wine and ended up with a tab of $125.00 per person. You would think a table that generated over $1,000.00 in revenue would have commanded at least a modicum if attention, but alas they were too busy to notice us. I say spend your dollars elsewhere. Someplace where you will be noticed and appreciated. There are many good restaurants in Lucca. This one is not a good choice. At a lower price point it would have rated higher, but it is a very poor value

We were family of four, home feeling place, no fancy decor, beautiful as it is. This is typical papa & mama restaurant, offering what available fresh today and tasty gorgeous food. The service is excellent and the price is realistic, affordable. 4?starters, 5 main, bottle of wine and 3 soda, big family size desert home made a little bit of everything and there bottle of water for â¬70. I do recommend this place.

Very nice restaurant in Marlia with excellent service. The menu included many unusual and inventive dishes (not typical of Tuscany), the wine was good and reasonably priced and the decor was great. However, the restaurant was freezing cold and we kept asking for the heating to be turned up but there just weren't enough heating units installed. This would be fine in the summer obviously!
