Sushi here is of an amazing quality and at a fraction of a price compared to Tokyo. Service was really friendly and accommodating, and I was in my happy place. Probably the best sushi in Kanazawa, and definitely comparable to the sushi shokunin in Tokyo. Certainly can't beat the seafood in Ishikawa!

We visited after seeing this restaurant on a guide and following the high rating here. Our experience does not reflect the high rating at all - cheap cuts of fish being served in the sashimi platter (which made us question whether this was for foreigners as I donât believe a local would pay Y2,600 for it), the fried dishes were oily unlike much of Japanese tempura. Perhaps we made poor food choices out of the menu, but there are MUCH better options abound at the same and lower price ranges. Would certainly not go again.

We had some delicious sushi here, and the staff was very friendly and even spoke some English. Itâs easy to order because the have English screen to pick from. Fatty tuna was yummy so was the crab nigiri.

An excellent sushi chef in Tokyo recommended visiting Sushi Maimon, but also gave me the following caveat: The usual sushi you'll eat won't be that special (maguro, saba, aji, ika, tako, etc.) so keep your expectations low. But, for the stuff that's caught locally, the sushi is really impressive. I went to Sushi Maimon last weekend and really enjoyed it. There are sets to order, but I opted for "ikkan zutsu" (ordering "piece by piece"). As expected, the tuna, mackerel, and squid were solid, but nothing spectacular. Where Maimon really shines is in the fish that are local to the Japan Sea. The Nodoguro (black-throated perch or rosy seabass) was amazing -- among the best tasting sushi I've ever had. Slightly more expensive, but totally worth it. Likewise, the Shiroebi (white shrimp) was also delicious. And, because it's Kanazawa they garnish the shiroebi with gold leaf; really nice touch. As others have indicated, it's conveniently located within the Kanazawa Station building, so if you've just arrived in Kanazawa, it's a great way to get a first taste of what Kanazawa has to offer.

One of our favourite meals during our two weeks in Japan. Would recommend booking a table as we had to wait around 1 1/4 hours for one. Luckily there is a great little craft beer bar round to corner. Had some vegetarian options and staff spoke some English and were able to advise about ingredients such as fish in sauces. Would recommend the corn tempura and the beef fillet mignon steak as the stand out dishes ordered by our group.

The margherita pizza baked in their open pizza oven was great - wine selection was good too and espresso excellent. The pastas all sound appetizing, but we would not recommend - itâs customized to local taste buds, as far as Kanazawa is to Rome. Stick to the pizzas and you wonât be disappointed. The restaurant has a cosy casual atmosphere and is good for families.

A terrific and spectacular meal. Was great to have a mixture of Japanese types of food. Innovative. Tasty and sharing plates which made the evening ever so much fun. The special touches were welcome. Cool, trendy ambience and dedicated hardworking staff. The atmosphere was so welcoming and friendly that our neighbouring table became friends. A true find.
