Things to do in Jose Ignacio
Beach Bar in the most stunning beach of José Ignacio. Great food and drinks to make your day at the beach unique. Enjoy fresh mediterranean food in a small venue that combines a lovely atmosphere and the best staff.
à um bar de praia, com serviço tanto nos guarda-sóis quando em cadeiras próprias. Lugar simpático, com alguns petiscos muito bons. Cerveja gelada e serviço muito simpático. Bom para passar horas frente ao mar.
Rooftop Luna Brava is an after beach chill out bar where people can come and enjoy drinks, music, finger food and the best views of Jose Ignacio beaches.
Best possible location for lunch and happy hour! We had ceviche and caipirinha with maracuja or their signature spritz. The ambience, whether you eat in the terrace or outside is very unique, very zen, good music, relaxing, water flowing from a spa like pond and the best view of Jose Ignacio. The service is superb, quick for lunch (which as a mother of two little ones I appreciate!) and more relaxed in the afternoon to be able to relax after a beach day.Prices are beyond reasonable and the owner herself looks for seasonal treats for thir chef to play with. One afternoon they were designing their new drinks menu and they made us part of their focus group! We went for lunch every day during our stay!

This small, unpretentious and informal restaurant was a very pleasant discovery in the fashionable seaside village of Jose Ignacio ( it is listed in Tripadvisor as Maldonado - which is the state and therefore unfortunately won't be found by searching for restaurant listings in the town). Fast service is unusual in Uruguay and the fact this was linked to extremely professional and friendly staff was a bonus. The fish (sole) was fresh and beautifully cooked, the steak was excellent. The locally made strawberry ice cream was rich with the flavour of natural fruit rather than any additives. The owners deserve top marks for taking great care with all aspects of this simple and delightful business. Prices in Jose Ignacio are higher than average for Uruguay but here the bill was very fair.

I am starting to have doubts about this place, once among my favorites in the world. Food is still good- smaller portions,it's true. Drinks are a lot worse than in the past, as is the limited wine selection. But service has really deteriorated a lot: toilets had no water and/or were dirty, they were poorly prepared for rain, the awnings were full of holes and could not properly protect clients from the water. Additionally, the manager wanted to leave the place before the clients. As $160/person, I would (and do) expect a lot more. Maybe they should get back to basics and do an internship with La Huella folks!

We were staying nearby and the hotel recommended La Balsa. We were so pleasantly surprised. It has wonderful outside seating. We had the fixed menu which was rabas, corvino and a passionfruit mousse for dessert. The fish was delicious but the accompanying vegetables were spectacular. The service was excellent and very friendly. We had a wonderful lunch and recommend La Balsa.

Popei es un clásico familiar ubicado en el casco de José Ignacio. Desde 1991 recibe a todo aquel que quiera empaparse con la identidad de esta Aldea de Mar
We went for lunch on a holiday Monday. It was packed with families. We sat out on the porch. The service was excellent and the fish (corvina) was also excellent. It was the fish of the day. A wonderful experience overall. Popei' does not have any ocean view, but the veranda is really pleasant. We were even visited by a hummingbird. A must do in Jose Ignacio.Un placer para nosotros recibir tan lindo comentario y saber que hayan disfrutado de nuestro ambiente familiar. Bienvenidos siempre a la casa de un pescador!

They have an appetizer made of grilled cheese that was delicious. Great service and nice ambience. Very bohemian!

La Susana appears to be associated with the luxury resort, El Secreto. The crowd here is mostly English-speaking and clearly wealthy. It seems to be a place people come to see and be seen. The food is definitely secondary to the atmosphere. The food itself isn't bad but nothing special. The portion sizes are generous and the menu has something for everyone. The drink menu is extensive and they were happy to accommodate my bespoke drink request. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The only issue is that the flavors were muted and unimpressive, despite everything being cooked properly (not overdone or undercooked).I've also seen a number of reviews mentioning the view, which I find a bit confusing. Although the restaurant is on the beach, it doesn't have a view of the ocean. There is a large dune blocking view of the ocean from the vast majority of the restaurant. It's nice to have your feet in the sand, but there's no sweeping view of the ocean as other reviews seem to mention.

Nice location. Contrary to the reviews the restaurant had my reservation and were seated immediately. The octopus and the squid starters were really good. We had the the corvina and the veal Milanese cutlet for the mains. Neither were particularly good. The location is top shelf and the restaurant was in a good spot. It was ok. I would try something else for the mains
