Reviews on Seafood food in Gytheio, Peloponnese, Greece. Gytheio (Greek: Γύθειο, [ˈʝiθio]), the ancient Gythium or Gytheion (Ancient Greek: Γύθειον), is a town and a former municipality in Laconia, Peloponnese, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality East Mani, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 197.313 km. It was the seaport of Sparta, some 40 kilometres (25 miles) north. Gytheio used to be an important port until it was destroyed in 4th century AD, possibly by an earthquake. Today it is the largest and most important town in Mani. It is also the seat of the municipality of East Mani.

I'm giving a 4* since it's the second time we go there and we were satisfied. Locals go there it seems. The setting is not *very touristic*, but nevertheless you won't be dessapointed. The zucchinis were amazing, fava and garlic dip made with potato (many tavern will use bread instead)My friend ordered the octopus grilled and was overcooked, they refired a new one that was better.
A new restaurant next to Historical island of Kranai were the legend says that Paris and Beautiful Hellen spend their first night before their trip to Troy. We can offer high quality Traditional Greek Cuisine and of course fresh fish form the local waters
Imagine tables at the edge of the quay, the clear waters of Gythion harbor reflecting jade and cold light blue...and enjoy - like we did - an excellent fava, creamy and pleasantly flavored with onions and oregano; a good crab salad; an immense pikilià of seafood, that was presented for two but could actually fill three good stomachs (fried squids, anchovies, sardines and small fishes; octopus in vinegar sauce; shrimps); not to mention that our son ordered and enjoyed a large Maniatikì pita and the splendid smoked pork of Mani!Service quick, kind and patient; wine very good; view incomparable; prices really honest; high quality: what else?

Arriving early at the Castello Antico yesterday, we needed to wait as the room wasn't ready. So we headed off here for lunch knowing it was so close by. The service was prompt, helpful and offered a wide range of choice. Excellent Mousaka and Sardines accompanied by a large mixed salad. All very tasty, reasonably priced and well presented. We noticed the umbrellas hanging from the roof. Thought they were decor but in fact it protects diners from the droppings of nesting birds! Happened to see an entertaining nest full while we ate!

Had a great meal at Friends. Good English spoken, very good fish at a reasonable price. Appetizer almonds and eggplant salad a great new taste sensation. Fish perfectly prepared. Ask for grilled vegetables rather than boiled. Very interesting gratis drink provided later, local secret that we could not get them to divulge. Nice operators, new business that deserves success. Parking a bit of a hassle, new town plan means parking a couple blocks away.

Barba Sideris is a family owned and operated Greek restauant, for over half a century. We offer seaside/garden dinning as well as a warm, comfotable indoor space. We specialize in homemade Greek traditional food, offering a variety of meats, fish and meze
We had dinner in this restaurant, being advised that it offers live musing on Saturdays during the season. The staff were very eager to accommodate our wishes, the food however was rather indifferent and the portions rather small. The music was nice and at an decent volume level. The restaurant is frequented mostly by locals, its main advantage being its vicinity to the sea. No dessert or fruits were offered.

We had a wonderful dinner at Palirria. We were warmly welcome by Diana, who was extremely pleasant and kind. We followed all her recommendations and they were all successful. We had fried feta cheese, feta pie with honey, wonderful moussaka and fresh red mullet fish which were also excellent.Palirria is an excellent restaurant and we warmly recommend it.

Enjoy traditional Greek cuisine at the restaurant in Glyfada beach Valtaki, Githeio. The view from the restaurant is unique. Enjoy the endless blue of the sea and the impressive wreck of the freighter Dimitrios. The menu includes all the traditional dishes
Great place for a dinner at sunset. Takes a bit of time to get here. Try the daily fresh fish, its amazing. But you pay for it quite some. Nevertheless, recommended.

Are you in Gythion and looking for a restaurant to eat ? The restaurant "SAGA" is the appropriate place, as with its many years of experience is still offering its clients unique and tasty dishes , such as : spaghettis with shrimps, fish soup, fresh fishe
We chose here for dinner based on the mostly good TA reviews and the listing in our guidebook. The food is very good, served with a smile by the staff as is usually the case in Greece. The menu holds no surprises if you're familiar with the local cuisine, but fish is generally the best option in Gytheio. Definitely recommended.
