In Orange Beach, AL, there's a new restaurant satisfying taste buds and leaving guests raving. Whether you're in the mood for fresh seafood, tacos, shrimp, or fried grits, the friendly team from Barefoot Island Grill serves up original, handcrafted meals
This is not a big spot, but since it's kind of in an out of the way place relative to all the condos and beachfront businesses, it probably doesn't ever get completely packed during Peak Tourist. And that's a good thing, because if you're willing to drive a little, it's nice to be able to saunter in during dinnertime and get an immediate seat at a place that serves decent food. The vibe here is more "back bay locals" than tourist-y, but there's a bar and live music on weekends, so there's some fun to be had. On my first visit, I tried the sweet chili shrimp, and it was a good somewhat lighter meal. The sweet chili sauce was very reminiscent of General Tso's sauce at a Chinese place. So it was a natural fit for fresh boiled shrimp. The cilantro lime rice paired nicely but was not very lime-y. I think it could have benefited from a little squeeze of fresh lime before serving. Our server recommended a country fried steak to my other diner, and while she liked it (it was quite tender, with no stringy bits) I thought the flavor was a little⦠off. Not "bad" but lacking any seasoning on the meat itself. The meat was very plain and all the flavor came from the breading and gravy, which were both good but not anything out of the ordinary. One of the sides they offer is mixed vegetables, which are served in a umami-rich "broth" for lack of a better description. I couldn't quite place what was in it, but it was really good. Cooked soft zucchini, squash, onions and mushrooms all soaked in that juice were unusual, but very flavorful. Probably not all that healthy, but that's why they're good.We also had an appetizer of the fried pork skins and they were fantastic. It's a huge bowl of them, still crackling from the fryer, for under $5. A really good shareable appetizer. They are seasoned with salt and maybe some cayenne pepper, but nothing overwhelming. Very, very good.Overall, a pretty good experience. The service started off a bit iffy as the smaller staff handled a larger party and worked around the live music, but after everything got squared away we wanted for nothing, which was all we could ask for. We'll definitely be back.

15-OCT-2019 DO NOT Recommend Greeting: Cold, indifferent Waitress/Service: Cold, indifferent Food: Grossly overpriced vs quality We chose this restaurant because it was so highly rated. Quickly realized some of these reviews must be fake. Brought the family here for supper. Greeting at the door was cold. Waitress was also fairly cold and uncaring. Should have been my sign to leave. Waitress didn't tell us about the specials. Finally got the beer list and my selection was out of stock. Chose my meal...also out of stock. She could have just told us up front...nope. No real apologies either. I ended up with fried shrimp and wife had stuffed grouper. Shrimp and fries were ok. No hushpuppies. Sauces were very bland. Slaw was bland. Stuffed grouper sounded much better than it taste. Very dissatisfying for $28. The kids enjoyed the spaghetti. Prices are at the very top of the range of what I would expect to pay for this type of food. Spend your hard earned money somewhere else.

We were having trouble deciding on a place that had something everybody in my family wanted. Cosmo's had a great menu with lots of options. It was a bit pricey for my family's taste...at least for lunch. The food was pretty good...not amazing...but we enjoyed it. I got the shrimp po'boy. I am not a seafood connoisseur, so I'm not accustomed to fresh seafood. It was a bit fishy tasting for me, but still good enough to eat. A seafood lover might have loved it! My husband had the burger and said it was good. The bun was sourdough, which made it unique. They brought out bread before the meal that was pretty good, but not anything super exciting. The best part of the meal was the French fries. It was almost as if they were battered in the stuff they coat fried fish in. Delicious! Apparently, on Wednesday's they give out free cookies! That was a fun surprise! Overall it was a good experience, but not anything amazing. The outside seating looked fun, but it was a bit too hot for us to sit outside.

We stopped here for lunch prior to an adventure we had scheduled - and we liked it so much we returned for dinner in the evening. Both experiences were terrific! We had sushi for lunch and for dinner my husband had the flounder topped with crab meat and I had a filet mignon. Both dishes were cooked to perfection and were nothing short of fabulous! We would not hesitate to recommend this wonderful restaurant!!

My family stopped in after a trip to the outlet mall. We were a party of 10 and were seating out on the patio. We discovered that smoking was allowed on the patio and asked if it would be possible for us to be moved. Everyone was so nice and accommodating and moved our large party immediately. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly. The food was great as well! My husband and I split the crab cake platter and had the seafood queso for an appetizer. Both were so good! Everyone in our party, including the children, enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Thank you for leaving us a positive review! We hope you will come by and see us again soon, Amber.

We ran in for a quick lunch. The burgers were perfectly cooked and juicy. The toppings were fresh and delicious too. I love crinkle cut fries and was so happy when they arrived, crispy on the outside tender on the inside, and not greasy! There was so much food we couldnât eat dessert. Definitely a great stop!
