Went here because of the reviews, was not impressed at all the food was overpriced for what you actually got the prime rib which was med rare was very tough and hard to chew and the baked potato was was very tiny, the wait staff was less desirable took for ever to have our order taken i the waitress was too busy trying to handle the bigger tables bigger tip i guess hard to knew who was doing what multi people delivering food and the wait staff told table next to us sorry we did not put your appetizer order in at the right time it just went in. Would not go back here or recommend not very organized...The server not only came to your table several times to check on you, but also offered and gave you free soup instead of the salad that comes with the entree just because you do not eat salad. We would have been more than happy to replace your prime rib with a new one or with something else, but you failed to let your server know. At that point, how can we make things better for you?As for the other table, it happened to be family of the restaurant and not of your concern quite honestly, as they were not upset about the delay in their appetizer. We all work in unison at the restaurant to make everyone happy and we are sorry we could not make you and your partner happy with the number of people coming to check on you, deliver drinks, food, etc. Thank you for your review but next time you should give the restaurant a chance to rectify the issue when asked as opposed to posting on social media without affording us the opportunity to make things right for you. We want everyone to leave happy and full no matter what it takes. Again, thank you and again, we are sorry we could not make you happy.
dropped in for a quick lunch, the chicken curry meal was fresh, and tasty, as was the corn on the cob.the staff were friendly, and provided old fashioned genuine service.highly recommended.will return.
At the time of my visit, the restaurant was still new and very popular. There were no seats available and the wait for my order was quite lengthy. The food was good but not great. However on the second visit the service was much better and so was the food. aThe atmosphere is good.

This place has the best food. I really like the Shrimp in Garlic. This is really only shrimp, garlic and olive oil. The best as an appetizer. Then I get the shrimp in wine sauce. A great dish that comes out sizzling. Highly recommended.

The Portuguese cuisine was expensive and average considering what one can find in Newark Iron Bond. To make the experience even worse after lunch with my spouse, is that I was charged a mandatory 15% tip without my authorization. I confronted the waiter who had nothing to say. I sent an instant message to their Facebook page. No response whatsoever.

Had a long leisurely lunch with an old colleague. I had one of the lunch specials, the Paella Valencia. Very good. Lots of seafood, Spanish sausage and a half of a lobster tail. Huge portions. Plan on leaving with a doggie bag. The bread was delicious. Excellent service. On site parking lot. Accessibility ramp. The only negative thing that I can say, if it is a negative--they wouldn't let me package my own leftovers. Said that it was't allowed. This is the first time that I have encountered this. I prefer to put my leftovers in the container myself. They were nice about it though. They didn't rush us and let us stay as long as we wanted. I definitely would go again. It's worth a visit.

Old school Italian neighborhood place with pictures of celebrities covering the walls and frankie valley playing on the jukebox. We had clams oreganata, long hot peppers, and shrimp Beeps, all excellent. I had to deduct one point for not being able to eat at the bar, and for being rushed.

We routinely have our holiday party here as it is convenient and reasonable priced per person. I always order the black bean soup as a starter as it is really good. I am also a big fan of the paella. The sangria is top notch and they host a lot of holiday parties. If you are looking to have a large party down neck, this is a great choice.

First off, nice ambiance and a great wine list! It is loaded with a fabulous selection of Spanish wines. Pleasantly surprised. Lots of options on the menu. We started off with some clams to share that were really flavorful and perfectly done. For our entrees we ordered a paella and suckling pig. Both huge portions but both also dry...very dry. Was expecting better. Expensive.I'm glad you appreciated our extensive wine list. It's wonderful you enjoyed the clams as well. As for the entrees, I'm sorry you weren't as impressed there. I look forward to the next opportunity we get to earn another star or two from you.Sincerely,Andres, Manager

Established in 1932 Spanish Tavern is the oldest restaurant in New Jersey specializing in cuisine from Spain!
First time at this restaurant and fell in love with it. Service, wine list and food was fantastic. They bring bread and complimentry soup and we had ordered calimari which was good. We tried paella that was the best I've had in the US. So full we did not experience desert. Some on street parking and a well lit lot across the street for restaurant patrons.
