My group of 35 had planned to stop at national chain buffet restaurant. We called ahead for service. When we arrived we found out that it would be and extended wait for a group of hungry individuals. We decided to leave. We went to another national country store/restaurant. Another extended wait. Two ladies were standing near the entrance. I asked them for a recommendation of a buffet restaurant for a large group. They both quickly agreed on the Country Fisherman on Highway 80 in Jackson (MS).We got back on our bus, I called ahead and told them we were 15 minutes away and wanted to know if they could accommodate us. The receptionist immediately told us yes they could. When we arrived they had already set tables for us. The young male waiter immediately seated us and took our drink offers. My group was immediately impressed with the buffet. The presentation of the food was carefully laid out. Everyone we interacted with was pleasant to deal with. The food was delicious. Most people in my group said they would definitely come back again..soon! Our waiter was exceptional in attending our needs. I had traveled to Jackson many times before, but had never heard of the Country Fisherman. I STRONGLY recommend this restaurant. The food was hot and fresh, and the facility was clean. If you like buffet food You will not be disappointed.

Be prepared to be âshoe-hornedâ into your seats on a busy night âcause this place is crazy crowded. And no wonder! Walkerâs has a reputation as having the finest seafood served in the capital city. My redfish with lump crab was amazing! Perfectly cooked with a light sauce that made me at least consider licking the plate! Did it need more crab? Of course! But it was mouth-watering nonetheless!Everyone in our group of ten absolutely devoured their dinner. Dessert may have been just as good but we were too stuffed to even give it a try.If you have a member of your group with any kind of physical disability then make that clear when making reservations. There is more than one level of dining and only stairs to get there. Go to Walkerâs! Eat heartily!

My wife and I enjoyed a lunch break here on our trip. Service was quick and attentive. Grilled shrimp were succulent and tasty. Fried catfish tenders were delicious as well. We'll be visiting this place again on our next drive through Jackson.

Have been coming here for years based on a recommendation in the late 1990âs. Love it. The staff is always great and service always wonderful. Family friendly atmosphere. Not the greatest part of town. Steaks, flounder, snapper, shrimp is-bob, and frog legs are on time good. Love the down home style of this local eatery.

Given the accolades probably the most disappointing restaurant we have tried to use, certainly in the 23 states of the USA we have visited to date. Arrival was mixed as a party of regulars arrived ahead of us causing us to be left standing at the door. Drinks arrived promptly but nothing for 30 minutes thereafter, almost as if the management did not wish to serve us. After the third prompt our order was taken. However on pointing out a food allergy we were told that skillets were not cleaned between courses and we would have to eat at our own risk. Given the risk presented we paid for our drinks and left. We did ask for an explanation on leaving but the response from the lead lady that food precautions were not needed given no reported issues in almost 70 years did not provide any confidence, in the UK my sense is that this establishment might struggle to get a food hygiene certificate.

Firstly, Iâd like to say the food was excellent and the atmosphere was astounding. We were coming through headed home from the beach and everyone really enjoyed the dinner. Secondly, I just want to take a second and speak on what I witnessed here on this night. Christina and Nikki were our waitresses. They were very friendly and worked well together, ensuring all customers were taken care of. About half way through our dinner a group of people walk in and the young waitress walks up to the table and greets them with a smile, asks how their day is going and thanks them for choosing Berryâs to eat. This is when it goes down hill. Quickly. The guy tells this waitress that he isnât very hungry, he just wants to eat a little bit off his womanâs plate and says he wants to just be charged for 1 buffet. The waitress kind of caught off guard says something along the lines of, thatâs not allowed and offers plate options. The girlfriend of this guy leans over and whispers something in his ear when immediately he cuts the waitress off and tells her that she needs to get Carol on the phone now, Iâm assuming this is the owner, stating he was good friends with him. I wasnât able to hear what she said clearly but he ended up letting that go. Then he proceeds to let this waitress know who his father is. âYeah. The mayor of this town is my father.â The waitress, still just smiling says something about them looking alike when all of a sudden this schmuck tells her to shut up three times. Getting a little louder each time. The waitress noticeably uncomfortable, gathers their drink orders and then walks away. A few seconds later, Christina comes over and tries to take their order. He starts up again and says something about calling Carol again. He says a few other arrogant and rude things but he is consistently greeted by patience and polite responses. I loved the food and the atmosphere but I mainly have to compliment these two young ladies. They handled this with such class and did not let it effect the service to their other tables. We really enjoyed them and hated to see them get treated so terribly by this table. We also had the privilege of finishing up the same time they did and noticed nothing left on the table and heard them leave a big tip of zero dollars on the card as the girlfriend laughed about it. As for the mayor of this town, you need to teach your entitled son some manners, especially when talking to women. Heâs too old to be acting in such ways and treating people that way.
We have passed this 'mom and pop' place for years as we zoom through Jackson. Today we stopped for lunch and were sorry about what we've missed all these years! The lunch buffet featured spaghetti, great fried chicken, baked chicken, fried catfish (!!!), fried green tomatoes, greens, broccoli, yeast rolls, corn bread...a salad bar and several dessert choices. At the table we ordered drinks and the unsweetened tea was freshly brewed (!). Everything was delicious and very reasonably priced. We'll be back.

We went here based on reviews and were pleased. Ignore the gas station setting and go in!!! Gumbo was excellent (crab bodies included) and their shrimp tacos were both excellent!! They have an active take-out business and offer coupons for return trips. Weâll be back and use that coupon!!

It's off the highway, but not hard to get to. Plenty of parking. Friendly and quick service. The fish was cooked right--not greasy like some places. A good variety of sides, some specialty sides cost about 50 cents more. Daily specials and specials for seniors. Condiments, etc handy. Relatively clean. We stop for lunch when passing through Jackson.

Was taken there for a Sunday buffet lunch. Small selection which included fried chicken and roast beef. It was basically southern food, so I suppose I was expecting something more elegant given the name of the establishment. Food quality was good though.
