The place doesn't look very inviting, but the chowder and staff are wonderful. I'm from Massachusetts and a chowder snob. This is the first one I've had in the area that's actually better than back home! Well done.Salads are fresh and crisp. Other food looks to be mostly diner type -- and doing a good job of that. The hot turkey sandwich passes muster for this diner lover.I stopped on a whim. Glad I did.

Ordered the whole campfire trout. What I thought would be a nice fresh trout, grilled or even pan fried with crispy skin, was 2 fillets, with a very thin coating of what might be a cornmeal. NOT a fresh fish, definitely frozen. Also, as an appetizer, we ordered wings. Also tasted like a frozen wing. With drinks, we spent over $80 for a very mediocre meal. Definitely should have went down the road for pizza since that is made fresh. Highly disappointed. Would NOT recommend. Only thing good about the place was the server. She was fantastic!

A party of ten stopped in after a very long drive on the trail . Mainly as we needed to use the restrooms and there wasnât anything else around . We had no problem buying something as the sign said on the door before we entered . I purchased a very small lemon square and was charged $8.05. Had they not of heated it up for me I would if not purchased it. Owner was very rude when I questioned the price . There were no prices posted otherwise I would not if bought it. I think it had been sitting there for a few days also . Will never go there again. Should of known since we were the only people there . Canât imagine what the meal prices are .

Lobster stuffed mushrooms were a good not great appetizer. The salmon entree was very good as was the Cajun Haddock. We also had the Scallops St Jacques. Overall an enjoyable but not outstanding meal.

We waited in a long line at Festiville and they were only offering the 1 piece of fish plus chips @ $15. If you're used to US fish and chips, then you might like a side of slaw which isn't included here. They did have vinegar and ketchup but the "tartar sauce" tasted like it had curry in it - interesting!

My husband and I stayed in Baddeck for four nights and McCurdy's Dining Room was our favourite restaurant for dinner. (We had okay experiences elsewhere, but the food here stood out to us. We wanted something special for our dinners.) We chose McCurdy's following a recommendation from our B&B hosts. We enjoyed our first dinner so much (day 1) that we returned on our last night. We both hugely enjoyed the Maple Curry Seafood Fettuccine - it was absolutely delicious! I nearly ordered it again for our second dinner, but I decided to try the Thai Vegetable Stir Fry instead, which was very good. We also liked the Peanut Butter Cheesecake. For our first dinner, we sat outside on the terrace/patio area, which was lovely and peaceful. There was a bus tour inside at the same time, so we wanted a quieter dining experience. We were impressed by the efficiency of the food service given how busy the restaurant was (there weren't any long waits or delays). Overall, we enjoyed our meals here and we would return on any future visits to Baddeck.Thank you for your excellent review! My second visit was a similar experience to two years ago. Long wait to be seated... server was friendly and lobster was good. This time we were in a horrible corner table, but the restaurant does not pretend to be fine dining. That said... over $200 for four of us to sit in a 'cafeteria', just doesn't feel worth it. We did have fun eating our lobster and enjoyed our lobster.

This is a restaurant that makes the jump from very good to excellent. While not the cheapest meal we had, it was probably the best in more than a week in Nova Scotia. The carefully prepared meals included an excellent vegetarian soup. One of us had fish (haddock) which was very fresh, nicely prepared, and seasoned in a particularly flavorful way. The other person had a vegetarian mushroom risotto (not on the printed menu, which had seafood risotto but which they were glad to prepare.) They don't serve bread as a side, but the soup was accompanied by some interesting gluten free "bread" slices. I suggest reservations. The second week in September, the restaurant was filled with a bus load of tourists (two seatings) and we needed to wait for an hour for a table. I review quite a few restaurants, and rarely give five stars, which to me means "Worth a detour to eat at this restaurant." This is one place that earns it

There really can't be four better eating experiences to be had in the Baddeck area or almost certainly the whole of Nova Scotia.We were on the wait list, having tried to book almost 2 months ahead, and fortunate enough to pick up a late cancellation. Other reviewers have explained the detail so suffice to say that the 4 amuse bouche, 5 course, set tasting menu was truly exceptional. The setting is charming, the service and chef welcoming and the whole experience memorable.Book (very) early to avoid disappointment!

On Monday August 19th, 2019, my wife and I had dinner at the Freight Shed a waterside bistro situated at 2 Jones Street in Baddeck, Cape Breton Island. This very casual and open concept bistro is located at the marina and boardwalk where you can sit by the waterfront, and watch yachts and sail boats anchored in Bras dâOr Lake. We sat at the table close to the rolling doors and window, so it was a little windy and cool that evening. As an appetizer, we had the plate of APP Steamed Mussels served with bread rolls and slices of lemon. After this my wife chose the Ruben Sandwich, a smoked meat sandwich with a fresh side salad, while I opted for the Shed Burger also with a fresh side salad. Both of our plates and appetizer were delicious, the portions were generous and tasty, and the prices for beer and sauvignon blanc were reasonable.The bistro was very busy that evening, but we did get served quickly enough by Jason our friendly server. Even though it was a little pricy due to the location, we enjoyed the delicious food and would rate our dinner as five stars.
