Harbour Inn

Visited The Harbour Inn for early dinner on a mid week evening and the staff managed to squeeze us in as most tables were reserved. I had a really good burger (chicken and haggis) and my wife chose a large haddock and chips. Well, when the meals were served I had food envy as the fish really looked superb. There was choice of normal fish, or large (which is what she had for) £11 and an extra large for £14, which quite frankly must be enormous. We were only staying on the small excellent Garlieston Lodge campsite in the village, so only a few minutes walk away, but the food here was so good, the service efficient and friendly and their local 'Gold' ale fine too that we booked a table for dinner the following evening. Glad we booked as The Inn was busy on a Thursday evening, but the food again was tip top. My wife chose the sea bass with Thai noodles and I had the haddock, and we heard others say that the fish was really fresh and it really really was. So I'm very happy to recommend this great traditional village pub, and hope it remains unspoilt, it's a joy as it is.Thank you for your review. We are constantly striving to cater for all needs and we are so pleased you enjoyed the food.

Very nicely presented and light eating place. Stopped for coffee and cake on two occasions when visiting Newton Stewart. Excellent coffee and freshly baked scones. Excellent service even though it was very busy on both occasions. Looks like it’s very popular with locals which is a good sign. Outside seating area for the bold.

I visited here last weekend and was blown away by the great meals and the friendly welcome we received. It was recommended to us by a local and we thought we'd give this new place a try. It is situated in an older building that used to be a hotel but now has a garden nursery in the grounds and this bistro inside, round the back of the building. It has amazing views over the water. It is open Friday, Saturday, Sunday at the moment. I had a wonderful caprese salad and the main course salad with grilled halloumi - both excellent. My other half had garlic mushrooms and then steak pie and that went down really well too. The menu has something for everyone. A great selection of drinks were available at the bar too.I felt very welcome in the bistro and found the owners and staff very friendly. They also have a huge selection of books lining the bookshelves of the bistro - well it is Wigtown after all! I ended up buying 6 books before I left. There's loads of mainstream fiction, cookery books etc and also the largest selection of Lesfic I have ever seen in one place, Wonderful! Highly recommended.

We ordered chicken goujons followed by scampi with salad and chips. The goujons arrived quickly and were delicious. The main dish was equally good, with generous helpings of both scampi and chips. The chips were served piping hot, and held their heat throughout the meal. We finished with coffee, and left entirely satisfied with the food, the excellent service and the sensible prices. Highly recommended.

We were lucky to get booked into the Craft Hotel restaurant on the first Sunday evening of the Book Festival. The place was very busy, constantly turning people away. Yet, the staff were cheerful and the food was lovely. And it was so reasonably priced. The steak pie is to be recommended (and the wine is cheap and nice, too!). Great service, great value for money and good food.

We popped in here by chance and were not sure what to expect. However the lady serving was very kind and helpful. The other person with me was pleasantly pleased to find gluten free menu with lots to chose from. He had the tomato soup served at close to boiling pint, with sweet potato and cheese followed by fruit crumble with cream ( he was offered vegan ice cream). I had the sweet potato falafel salad. The falafel were good and the salad was freshly made to order. The slice chocolate and beetroot (GF) cake was much larger and lighter than expected and delicious. There were nine meat free burger choices, baked potatoes, panini, the choice was large and imaginative, plus cakes, apple pie and scones. The meat loving other person did not notice the lack of animal protein. The cafe was clean there were upright tables and chairs and in the back was a sofa and coffee table in front of a French windows and a dolls house, there were books but we had no time to browse. £25 for two including a tip.

We called in for a drink after visiting the Bladnoch Ddistillery across the road. The pub was very busy, which to me says it must be good. The young guy behind the bar had excellent local knowledge and was very polite when explaining local attractions. We really enjoyed our drinks/chat and we will definitely visit again.
