Our first dinner in Shetland at a venerable old hotel right on the waterfront, with a window table. Very good food, but the worst service we encountered in 30 days in Scotland and England. Our young server, it must be noted, did not have English as a first language, and the woman who seated us did not appear to be supervising him in any manner. Several tables besides ourselves had problems. At one point, the incongruous Mexican music playing got stuck, and repeated over and over as we all went insane. Our server said it wasnât his responsibility, and it went on for about 10 minutes before someone else fixed it, and put on traditional Scottish music. The next table had two couples whoâd made a big dent in two bottles of wine, the only thing on their table. He came by and asked them if anyone had taken their food order, and they replied in exasperation, that he had himself taken the order, a long time ago. I tried several times to get a second glass of wine, asking over and over again, but being unable to convince him to bring it. Finally, our food finished, we tried to get coffee, but he told my wife flat out that no, she could not have decaf; he didn't say there wasn't any, he said she couldn't have any. Then, when he brought the bill, I was flabbergasted to see that heâd charged us for my second glass of wine that heâd never brought. I was pretty upset, and he took back the bill and deleted the wine. As I had the card machine in my hand to pay our bill, I was contemplating whether to tip him; in Canada, 15 per cent is standard, and thereâs an expectation you tip something no matter how bad the service has been. As I pondered, he grew noticeably impatient and snatched the card machine out of my hand, then hit buttons and completed the transaction, and then handed me my copy, scolded me that that's how the machine works, and walked away. I was absolutely outraged. It didnât mitigate the situation at all when I checked and confirmed that he had not given himself a tip. Any thoughts weâd had of returning to the restaurant disappeared immediately.

We saw the notice on the harbour front, and went, really as a last resort because we couldn't find anywhere else where we wanted to eat lunch in Lerwick. It was a really pleasant surprise. They produced an impressive gluten free afternoon tea for my wife (though apparently really prefer a days notice if you want gluten free cake.). Very friendly, efficient service and a pleasant place to sit. Highly recommended.

I popped in yesterday (20/07/19) to grab a roll for lunch. I ordered and then I noticed the girl behind the food counter holding her trainer and scrubbing it with a toothbrush. When the young lad who served me turned to tell her my order she put the toothbrush on a counter with food on it, and went directly to pull a roll from the box. The young boy said âdonât you need to wash your handsâ she sighed, gave him a look and begrudgingly went and washed her hands. I took the roll but dumped it outside as I was horrified and quite frankly felt sick. Iâve eaten here quite a few times and now Iâm seriously questioning their hygiene procedures. Wonât be going back.

Our first night in Shetland, we had a big private dinner here. The staff were fantastic and the majority of the food was delicious. Starter of Mushroom with goats cheese, and main of venison steak with haggis were great. Pudding of white chocolate and strawberry cheesecake was just ok. Got to sample a few locals beers here too, one of which I ended up stocking up on to take back in the flight home. Overall, a very nice night here.

Firstly this review is 100% genuine and just my opinion. The restsurant is very nice but very brown and beige throughout which makes it seem rather bland. My opinion is get some colour into the place ......this will enhance the dining experience considerably ....you deserve it .....candles on tables put a bit more flare into the pkace its too drab .....sorry if this offends.Try a feng shui master to visit it will make you thousands! The food was a delight as was the service.Good luck ....hope this helps may well see you all again soon.

New restaurant and bar offering high quality lunch and dinner focusing heavily on fresh local produce including seafood, meat and vegetarian options.
My wife and I had just arrived in Lerwick and were strolling around for a place to eat. We ended up having lunch at The String. The food was outstanding and we felt that it was reasonably priced. Between us we had a Pork Bao Bun, their soup of the day (potato), Shetland Haddock in beer batter and another special, small langoustine. Everything was delicious. Service was attentive and friendly.

Popped in here for a quick meal the other evening. I ordered a small smoked haddock and chips, when it arrived I was very glad I had gone small!! Very tasty and freshly cooked. The cafe is only small, but very clean and friendly. The chippy part of the shop was constantly busy, always a good sign.

Thi is a modern and well-located cafe/bar/restaurat in the heart of Lerwick. We stopped here a number of times for coffee and gluten-free cakes in the afternoon. The place gets booked-up quickly in the evenings and though we did not eat here I would recommend reserving a table in advance if you intend to.

We stopped for a break here last week when doing the round Lerwick walk. Really nicely decorated inside with a stunning view out to sea. Staff were very busy but friendly. Coffee good but the cakes are mouthwatering. We had a pancake and a triple chocolate shortbread cake. It was divine the most delicious Iâve ever tasted. We had to go back on our last day in Shetland to get some more. Iâve been googling recipes ever since in the hope of recreating it... no luck yet!Ps the toilets are great also , very clean and modern
