Nothing can describe the ultimate pilgrimage of Hindu religion. The seat of Lord Jagannath, literally the king of the world. From the vast temple complex, to the intricate carvings on the walls of the structure,to the flag which always flies in the opposite direction of the wind to the sanctum sanctorum where only the privileged see the Lord and his siblings is a very humbling experience. The kitchen is huge and cooking is done for approximately 50000 people daily by an army of cooks in only earthen vessels on a wood fire and water drawn from wells within the complex. This temple along with Konark should be on top of the bucket list when visiting Odisha, India.

The Bimala Temple is a Shakti Peetha in the South Western side within the Jagannath temple complex. The Goddess is considered to be the gurdian of Lord Jagannath and such is the importance of this temple that the prasad offered to Lord Jagannath is complete and becomes Maha prasad only after the offering is made to the Goddess!!

It's one of the four cardinal mutts set up by Jagatguru Adi Shankaracharya. The whole of the eastern part of India is considered to be the spiritual territory of this mutt. It's worth visiting this place when you are in Puri..the roads are very narrow so it's advisable to take an autorickshaw or if the weather is cool enough just walk down. There's a temple dedicated to Lord Jagannath, Goddess Vimala (Bhairavi) and Ardhenareshwar ,which was installed by the Jagatguru himself. The best thing I liked about this place is the vedic chanting audible from quite a distance. The Mutt is also a center for extensive Vedic studies!!

It is also called Ramakrishan Pramahans ashram. If you want to enjoy the spiritual peace, then you must go there.

I have been going to this ashram since childhood, since it belongs to our family Guru. it's serene location on the banks of the aqueduct "Atharanala" is very conducive for meditation and other spiritual activities. Although Atharanala has been clogged by weeds and water hyacinth, Govt. of Odisha has plans to restore it to its original state. Then, the ashram would indeed be an abode of peace.

Mata Matha is a nice option for photography and selfie. Traveling to Jagannath Puri, apart from famous Puri sea beach, this is another attraction that draws the serious travelers. I think that without visiting Mata Math visiting Puri remains incomplete. This is an amazing peaceful religious place. Must visit with the family
