One of the most beautiful temples that still holds its spectacular charm after 1000 years. The temple is peaceful and serene. It is not possible to move your eyes away from the statue of Venugopalaswamy. All the moorthys are made of shaligrama and shows the expertise of the then sculptors that they look as good as new even today. The carvings outside the temple are a sight to behold too. Definitely worth the visit.

Sri Sharada Peetham, Sringeri.is the first and foremost of the four Peethams established by the renowned 8th century philosopher saint Sri Adi Shankara, The temple is located amongst the lush green mountain ranges of the Sahyadri. Sringeri Mutt – Mythology Sringeri derived its name from the ancient Shringa Giri, the name of a hill here that is believed to have housed the ashram of Sri Vibhandaka Maharishi and his son Sri Rishyashringa. Tradition has it that when Sri Shankaracharya was passing through here, he was captivated by an unusual sight. A cobra had reared up and spread its hood to shelter a spawning frog from the scorching sun. Sri Shankara was enchanted by the divinity of the place which made natural enemies help each other. Saraswathi Devi, who was accompanying Sri Shankaracharya and his disciples in the form of a young girl called Bharathi, stayed on in the spot as Sharada Devi. Sri Shankaracharya established a matha here and it came to be known as Sri Sharada Peetham, the seat of Sharada Devi. There is another important place which you should not miss in Shringeri. Do not miss out on visiting the banks of Tunga River. Since, this river basin is considered as sacred, fishing is not allowed in the river at the shrine. Watching the fishes in Tunga River at Sringeri is a enjoyable. Visitors can also feed these fishes and watch them jumping to catch the food.

This is another one of the wonderful temples we visited in Sringeri Mutt. It is located further on the left of Sri Sharadamba temple, and a little inside near the Prasadalaya. We visited this temple after doing darshan of Goddess of Learning, Sri Sharadamba, and paying homage to Sri Shankaracharya, who established the Sringeri Mutt here, and to Sri VidyaShankara, the 10th Jagadguru of the Mutt. Lord Ganesha, engraved on the Torana, popularly known as Torana Ganapati is considered very powerful and as per tradition the Sringeri Jagadgurus offer worship at this temple before embarking on any tour. The present Jagadguru Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamigal built a separate shrine for the Torana Ganapati and performed the Kumbhaabhisheka in June 2014. As luck would have it, we got to meet the two temple elephants of the Mutt as soon as came out of the Ganapati Temple. Then we proceed to the Prasadalaya where we partook in the free lunch, offered as prasad to all the devotees. It was a very good experience for us.
