We enjoyed dinner with some friends who were craving traditional Russian dishes and Café Izbushka offered exactly what they were hoping for. The Borsch with meat was delicious, and my wife enjoyed the pelmeni. The bread rolls with garlic-herb butter were fantastic. We also ordered baked mushrooms and fried potato dumplings to share, all of which were great.The only miss was when I tried to order жаÑкое and ended up with a clay pot of beef and mushroom cream soup with a biscuit baked on top. It was delicious, just not what I had ordered, though the waitress insisted it was. Could have been just a communication issue.For dessert we had crepes with preserved fruit (apricots?), which we all liked. Our friends also ordered crepes with caviar, which they seemed to enjoy.Other than my order mishap, the service was good and the food reasonably prompt. The dining room was mostly couches and tables, which were comfortable. Prices were all very reasonable.

My friend told me about this relatively new restaurant that is very popular, so we decided to try it for lunch. This is an excellent restaurant and I liked everything about it. The restaurant is clean. The interior decor is historical and in very good taste. The service was attentive and timely (no English). The food was excellent! The best chicken kotleta I have ever had in my life. The restaurant is upscale and there are not loud and obnoxious drunks here. This is a classy place and I hope they stay in business for many years. I want to return every time I am in Kostroma.

Don to try to find something better in Kostroma. It is the best place I have ever meet here. Last 4 years each autumn I tried to find a good place and it is the best. Good prices and very-very tasty food. Especially "Ukha" - fish soup and beefsteaks.

It's a fantastic restaurant in the heart of old Kostroma. A hilarious interior, based upon the books by ilf & petrov, welcomes you. Prices are ok, not expensive and the food is very good. A place to eat during your Kostroma visit

We have walked into this restaurant just randomly as we needed to have early dinner before leaving Kostroma. We were 3 of us - my parents, my toddler daughter and I. First of all, I should say that the service was really slow, my mother was already about to come up and ask if everything is ok and the food is coming at all. The quality of food is so-so only. We ordered 2 portions of pork roast, hash brown with pork and for my toddler they recommended mashed potatoes and chicken breast fillet. (I asked them something healthy for small kids. So, the latter turned up to be a super think piece of chicken breast generously covered with mayonnaise and smoked ham. So, I had to remove the whole topping before my daughter was able to eat it. My dish which was described as pieces of pork with hash brown was chopped mushrooms with a couple of small pieces of pork with lots of greasy sauce generously put on top of hash browns. The hash browns were yummy but they got soggy because of the sauce. The pork roast was prepared in pots and by description was supposed to have potatoes and mushrooms - again it was also soaking wet in some mayonnaise sauce and it had lots of mushrooms and tiny bits of potato and pork. The only nice part of dining were drinks - we took ginger and honey sbiten and americano. They were great.

A warm welcome on a cold February afternoon, followed by an excellent meal--mushroom soup, pike caviar with blinis, warm salad with rabbit liver, duck leg with potato pancakes and caramelised apple, pumpkin pancakes and sour cream--in a pleasant ambience.Friendly and helpful staff.I would highly recommend it.

From celebrating a family event for about 10 people to having my solo breakfasts, lunches and dinners for the past five months this place has proved to be heaven on Earth in any sense possible: the location is perfectly central, the staff are wonderfully trained, the kitchen really know how to cook, the music is quiet enough and varied to the point of not to get you bored, and the menu is safe for old people to choose the dishes they know to fresh for younger ones who like to experiment. Thank you for finally appearing in Kostroma and saving my meal times!Thank you very much, we are waiting for you again!
