Nestled in a wooded setting minutes from downtown and Wake Forest University, Ryan's has provided exquisite food and service in a rustic lodge atmosphere for nearly Forty years. Ryan's is locally owned and operated and has been a Wine Spectator award winner since 1987. Come enjoy one of our classic entree's and your favorite beverage next to one of our fireplaces or at a window table overlooking the wooded setting.
You can’t go wrong at Ryan’s! Food is consistently good, wether steaks or seafood! Service is great! A wonderful spot for a special dinner! Geared toward adults, but have seen families with young children there. Not someplace I would take children under 12 to.

Built in 1816, the tavern has 5 intimate dining rooms and a small full service bar. Waitstaff dresses in historic costume during the day.Dine by candlelight in the evening.
Eating dinner at The Tavern in Old Salem was a delightful evening. Entering the building we felt like we were stepping back in time. We were warmly welcomed and our server Mary was excellent. My husband and I shared the Crawfish and grits appetizer which was tasty. We both ordered the wild boar in red wine which was excellent. When it was time to leave our server Mary went over and above being helpful in ordering us a cab.

This restaurant is located just outside Old Salem Historic District and across the street from Brookstone Inn. There seemed to be interesting shops nearby, but we did not have time to stroll the quaint area.
The menu contained classic Italian dishes and house specialties. I ordered the Caesar Salad with Salmon and the kitchen did a wonderful job cooking the salmon. It was the best Salmon Caesar I have ever ordered. My daughters ordered pasta dishes and were equally satisfied.
I took a picture of the menu for TA before we ordered which came in handy when I received my bill. We were overcharged for two of our dishes. I pointed it out to the waiter with a picture of the menu and it was removed from the tariff. The manager came to our table and apologized stating the waiter is new.
I will return if in downtown W-S, but will certainly scrutinize the bill again.

FROM THE SHORES OF Italy, TO BROOKLYN NYC, TO NORTH CAROLINA... The Tre Nonne story begins, of course, in the old country. Hailing from Naples and Calabria; for generations the forerunners of the Maresca family took great pride and enjoyment in preparing the finest traditional Italian meals, served with the utmost hospitality. When Alice DeLuca (Dolly) and her family passed through Ellis Island at the turn of the century, she brought with her an old-world devotion to good cooking, and good fellowship to the new world. A parishioner of Mary Queen of Heaven Church in Brooklyn for decades, you can still see the statue of Mother Mary donated by her in the church courtyard. Alice loved to bake, and worked for many years as a member of the baker's guild, working the Midnight to 6 am shift making donuts. Ann Vitale came to the new world from Naples, and hung her laundry on a wire across Mulberry Street. Ann worked in the meat department at her local supermarket. Always in the kitchen; her authentic recipes still guide us today. Alice Maresca lived her life with a flair for Italian cooking and longevity. She spent many years working for a Manhattan hat maker, all the while perfecting her technique in her home kitchen. The recipes here at Tre Nonne are inspired by the memory of Sunday dinners gone by. The fabulous cooking, family, and friendship from the three family matriarchs -The Tre Nonne- Alice, Dolly, and Ann- inspires every meal we serve -Hearty and delicious pasta, made fresh the old way, perfectly prepared and seasoned meats, fresh salads and, of course, the delectable sauces -our own version of Sunday gravy! Just like in their kitchens, we honor the spirit old fashioned Italian hospitality and strive to make sure you leave full –and with a smile on your face!
When we travel through W-S we try to frequent the top rated TripAdvisor restaurants. This one had slipped through previously, but we targeted it on this recent trip. There was nothing associated with this dining experience that would not get the highest ranking. The management was very welcoming and conscious of our experience. The black olive vinaigrette dressing for the fresh dinner salads was a wonderful, unique flavor, the fresh bread was a bred-lovers dream. I could have stopped here and been satisfied, but I would have missed the most flavorful dish I’ve had recently: salmon over bow tie pasta with broccoli under an Alfredo sauce...awesome! The lasagna was very good and the sautéed spinach should be a dinner accompaniment requirement. The large portions allowed us to enjoy it again reheated the next day. What a fantastic place to enjoy authentic Italian cuisine!

The menu items are diverse and creative. There's a bit of haute thoughtfulness going into the menu, and the outcomes are excellent. Looking around, there were a host of dishes that looked excellent. Mine certainly was. It was very busy, and rightly so. The staff was very friendly, though as a solo diner on a busy night, I confess I wondered if I was a bit of a burden/distraction to my server. There were times when she seems friendly, and other times when it seemed like perhaps because dining alone I wasn't as high a ticket, that perhaps it would have been better had I moved along. Now, that could be completely unfair and I could just be projecting and misreading the bearing of my server, but I generally don't have moments of discomfort like this, but here I did. But would I go again? Absolutely. Again, I could have been misreading my server. Also, the food was excellent, and while a bit on the pricey side, not completely unreasonable, given the creativity and quality. Expect to wait a while, but really, it is okay and will be worth it.

Great bar atmosphere with good waitstaff. The fish tacos were amazing and we had a nice selection of wines by the glass. The apple cobbler was also deliciousI have heard from friends who live in town that their food is consistently first rate. It is very close to Wake Forest University and Graylyn Estate

It is a small and intimate place. Not an extensive range of menu but what they serve, they were great. We had pimento cheeseburger and fried goat cheese salad with grilled shrimp. Perfectly done. Juicy burger with crispy fries. Generous serving of fried goat cheese on fresh salad. Yum! Combined with great attentive service, it was a great dining experience.

We had dinner here in a Saturday...good thing we got there early! It got very busy quickly!
Food was great...my gastropub burger was cooked perfectly! Everybody enjoyed their dinners and we took our desert to go. The key lime pie was satisfactory as was the chocolate torte.
The only downfall was no military discount... but even with that said...
We will be back.

Sometimes we get very weary of chefs who simply try too hard, picking up everything trendy that everyone else is doing at the expense of really well prepared food from good ingredients (quinoa, kale, sriracha, anyone?). My husband is on a very strict diet so we especially appreciate restaurants where at least one protein item can be cooked without glazes, sauces, brining. Jeffrey-Adams-on-Fourth really fit the bill. It is a pleasant space, somewhat "clubby" with dark wood and a cozy environment with the bar and tables behind it near the TV mercifully seet off from the dining spaces. You can have a drink and watch the game or you can have a peaceful dinner--your choice. We had a terrific server, Jake, who was extremely helpful with advice about what would fit my husband's special diet as well as wine choices. We were there on a Tuesday when wines by the glass or their full bottles are half price, a real bargain, so his recommendaiton of a jammy California Zinfandel was really a good one. My husband got the maple bourbon glazed salmon which was perfectly cooked along with perfect asparagus and a grits cake that was fairly bland. I was thrilled to find a 4-ounce filet mignon on the menu, just the right amount. It also was perfectly cooked and with it I got smoked gouda mac n cheese and the asparagus as well. Price points are very reasonable and the whole experience was a delight.

I had tried this restaurant several times a few years ago. With each visit I became less excited about the possibility of returning. While the service and atmosphere were great the food was only okay. Still, several of our friends enjoyed the restaurant and we received quite a few gift cards to encourage us to "give it one more chance."
This past week, I found one of those gift cards in my car. We were out doing some shopping and decided to drop into the restaurant for lunch. We figured if nothing else to order an appetizer to hold us over for an early dinner.
Upon arrival, I found that the atmosphere and service level had remained. We looked over the menu and it seems that there had been some new additions since our last visit and we elected to give two of them a try. I can only say, WOW! I was totally amazed. The food was delicious! I talked to our server and related our previous experience and asked that she relay to the chef our pleasure. She let me know that the chef had not changed however they currently have one of the owners in the kitchen all the time to ensure that the food quality matches the reputation. Great move on the owners' part in my opinion.
If you've previously visited Milner's and not been thrilled, give them a another try. I think you might be as amazed and delighted as I was.
