An intimate and contemporary Scottish restaurant with classic French influences in the beautiful fishing village of Stein, Isle of Skye.
What a step up from our last visit. A thoroughly fine dining experience with excellent service. The change of ownership has produced a wondrous transformation from pretend to real fine dining. With the current set up this is really something to enjoy if you're in this neck of the woods. Highly highly recommended.

Without doubt this was a tasty meal but it was probably not quite as good as I had hoped. I had been assured that this restaurant was “superb” but to be honest, my mum cooks as well as this.
It was disappointing not to find any Cullen skink on the menu. Instead, I had the chowder for a starter. Strangely, It defied my understanding of chowder because it didn’t seem to contain either milk or cream: it was a rather thin tomato broth. All the same, it was well-seasoned and satisfying. I then followed with the sea bass, which was sadly lacking a really nice, crisp skin.
The dessert menu was not at all tempting which made it easy to preserve my waist-line, hopefully, by stopping short of dessert. In my view, what the restaurant was lacking in its variety of desserts, it made up for in the price of those desserts. Any place where I can easily resist dessert isn’t worth the effort. Still, I shouldn’t be unfair: a seafood restaurant isn’t going to excel at desserts so, no surprise there.
Overall this was a reasonably satisfying meal but not a great one. The restaurant is quite small and intimate and has a nice atmosphere. Service is very friendly and “relaxed” if a little too slow. I fully expected it to be expensive (and it is) because there’s a perception that fish is costly plus this is a harbour-side restaurant in a picturesque location. However, I wouldn’t say it was either very special or very good value for money.

Many of the restaurants in Portree are expensive. But Caledonian Cafe is a good choice if you're looking for good food at a reasonable price. My wife had the homemade macaroni & cheese with chips, and I had a beefburger with chips. Both dishes were quite good, as was the service. It's a busy restaurant, so it's possible you may have to wait a bit for a table.

We'd just taken a hike and needed a cup of tea. But we ordered pies and we were so glad we did. The place is clever and charming. The service was great. But the pies were stunning. Interesting ingredient combinations, flaky crust. It was well worth the stop.

Food shop with seats - contemporary bakery specialising in artisan bread, shortbread and oatcakes. All food is available in compostible containers for take away or take a seat! Wood burning stove in winter, free parking, child friendly area. Viewing window to watch the bakery in production. Excellent coffee, homemade soups, filled lunch breads and patisserie.
It is a little walk away from Portree center, but they make excellent bread. We bought our lunch from here. It is very very good and I will definitely recommend the place!
Upstairs there is some sort of art store with many interesting things. Everyone in my family bought something from there.

The best meal on Skye since we were here last (and that includes two very highly rated establishments) Christmas menu excellent with superb Turkey dish and all the trimmings. Also a fantastic featherblade of beef. Finished off with
excellent Pannacotta. Great consistency and very friendly helpful local staff - other restaurants could learn from the recruitment and training of staff here

Winter opening hours 2017/2018 We are closed through January and re-open in February
It's great to visit a place several times over the past few years and see it retains its friendly warm welcome with mouth-watering home made dishes and cakes. The roasted mushroom soup (which was soup of the day on our visit) is exceptional and makes you feel as if you will live forever it tastes so good.
Elishadder Arts Cafe deserves its five star rating on all counts.
It is small with around 20 covers, though that will be quite tight, so it is worth staggering your visit to miss the usual busy times if you wish to avoid waiting - outside or in your car as there is little space inside to loiter for long. Prices are reasonable and the portions generous so well worth the visit.
The other side of the Arts Cafe, as its name implies, are the crafts available to buy.

The Ferry Inn is a newly refurbished 19th century family-run inn located in the beautiful fishing village of Uig in the North of the Isle of Skye. Both lively and stylish, the Inn currently has a bar and 4 boutique ensuite rooms and is centrally positioned on the southwest-facing Uig Bay, with a fantastic view towards the Waternish peninsula.
We stopped at the Ferry Inn at the recommendation of our hosts, & they were spot on. The owner clearly takes great pride in what he does, & the food is amazing! The beer selection is great & the service fantastic. Highly recommend giving them a shot if you are in the area, you will not be sorry!

Scorrybreac restaurant is set in a beautiful location and is the perfect spot to enjoy wonderful Scottish cuisine served with a French twist. Our aim is to source the best produce that Skye has to offer. We will be serving dinner 6 days a week from Tuesday to Sunday in our small and elegant dining room. We look forward to seeing you soon.
Excellent food and fine dining. Our youngest child (13) was a bit reluctant and a bit of a fussy eater but he ate every last morsel . would definitely recommend but you must book in advance.

The Bakery is located right on the main square. We arrived ahead of the lunch crowd of local students who must get their lunch here each day. We purchased 2 wrapped pastries of ham and cheese, 2 apple turnovers, and 2 fruit scones. Prices were very reasonable. We took our purchases outside to eat. We saved our scones for our nightly cup of tea in our hotel room. Service was friendly and efficient.
