Had the pleasure of eating three times during holidays and the meat (cote de beef, agneau, magret), food and service was excellent.... Great atmosphere with super mountain decor.... Cool "ambiance" with laid back feeling, no stress.... Always packed so book in advance....

So this is a great little place to stop when you have been skiing/snowboarding in Vars and you want to enjoy some sun/hot cocoa/lunch.
The owner is a local young lady who gives a fantastic youthful touch to the place.
It has kept an 80s feel and is conveniently located in the middle of the main rides up!
The food is what you would expect from an altitude snack bar, not fabulous but not bad and the team is always cheerful!
I love stopping there 2 or 3 times in the afternoon...to get a nice tan in between runs!
Make sure to be there before 12:30 or after 3pm when French school breaks start or you will have trouble finding a table on the Terrace!

La Marmotte offers a wide range of dishes, from the fondue to the cheeseburger and caesar salad. From what we tasted, quality is there, with a friendly service (merci Jean-Phi). The main room can get a little noisy though, yet with an young and cheerful atmosphere. Great for groups and families.

We found this restaurant by accident as the larger restaurants were all full and we didn't want to cook for our large group. After trawling round Vars looking for somewhere suitable for a party of 10 we called into what looked like a tiny takeaway on the main row of shops. IN our very poor French we asked the staff if they could accommodate 10 of us for a meal. The owner/manager? was extremely helpful and said he could push tables together to fit us in. It is an extremely small bar/ restaurant with only 3 medium sized tables. We decided to try it out. We were extremely pleased that we had as the manager Jean Michel was so helpful and friendly it felt like we had his undivided attention as he served us for the evening. To make things even better the food was delicious and much cheaper and tastier than the previous restaurant we had visited in Vars earlier in the week. The main things on the menu were Pizza, salads, salmon, burgers and pasta but the best was the brochette of beef which was served with fries, potatoes in sauce salad, and bread and you could order as many as you could eat for the same price. The beef was so tender and cooked just perfectly it melted in your mouth. The restaurant also has very good free wifi which we found difficult to come by in Vars. The thing that made our visit though was the friendly staff. We enjoyed the evening so much that we returned later in the week and were not disappointed. The bar seemed popular with locals which is always a good sign, I would recommend this place to everyone be careful not to overlook it as it only has a very small entrance and looks like a takeaway from the outside ( they do do takeaways as well) The pizzas were about 8-10 euros, salmon fillet was 14E, burger and fries 11E the brochette was 19E.

Hospitality remains the greatest attribute and Jacko has it in bucket fulls! His staff are equally delightful making every visit a pleasure, nothing is too much trouble even when we arrive as a table of nine in 3 shifts!
The food is all fresh and well cooked giving a wide range of choice and if you are not driving on or going back on the slope the Colonel Sorbert is amazing! Equally there is also the option of take put pizza if you prefer.
Redecorated since last year the place looks great. If you are in the area you must call in.

I must say that this little unpretentious refuge restaurant was great!www.refuge-napoleon-vars.fr
We were staying in Vars resort but happened to stop by this Refuge on our way to an Igloo activity. We actually did not go to the Igloo dinner we had planned initially as we were quite intrigued by the amazing menu Refuge Napoleon offered.
And we were VERY happy we decided to change our plans!
The crew at the Refuge is extremely nice, they love what they do and they were so warm and welcoming. The dinner was a wonderful surprise considering all the restaurants in Vars (and surrounding resorts) offer the same old mountain specialties (raclette, fondue, etc...).
The chef is a young woman who managed to impress 4 people who travel a lot and have 4 different nationalities!
Everything is homemade with bio ingredients and I loved how I could actually taste each item in my plate and how it all seemed to come together beautifully.
We tasted fabulous dishes such as a rich venison stew, beets and nuts purée, fois gras ravioli in an out of this world broth, a quince and apple crumble, a creme brulée with violet essence, a chocolate soufflé and many other delicious courses.
I will also add that all 4 of us had an aperitif, a main course, wine and a dessert and the price per person was of 30 Euros. Considering how good the dinner was compared to what we had discovered the previous nights in other Vars restaurants, this was also a wonderful surprise.
We tend to travel to the French Alps very often and I look forward to visiting again! Soon!

Went here with family including young children. The staff are really friendly and the menu is good, including a special choice for kids. I had the special of couscous with all the extras and it was amazing value in terms of quantity and quality.
Highly recommended as an option for a lunch after a morning's ski or an evening meal. The bar is also open all day, and is comfortable and a nice place to unwind.

Really lovely fresh cooked food at reasonable prices. For once there was several good options for vegetarians including the addition of omelettes at lunch time. Deserts were good too, go for the tiramisu with salted butter caramel; it was outstanding. All in all the best and most honest restaurant I've tried in the Alps.

The Restaurant of Escondus proposes you a varied card, a generous and delicious cooking, specialities of mountain. In the lunch, formulate skier, today's special. Terrace on the slopes. Big and beautiful room of associating the iron and the wood, the fireplace. Formulate half board, welcome of groups on reservation. Wedding organization, birthdays.
food is good (portions are not big, but ok); service was sort of chaotic (in all honesty, we were a table of 20 people, only one knew French).
my husband and I ordered la pierade and they brought the meets, then (very slowly) brought the hot stone, then the potatoes, then the sauces. so, not very coordinated.
but we were patient and enjoyed the food.
