Vandalia is a town in Fayette County, Illinois, United States, 69 miles (111 km) northeast of St. Louis, on the Kaskaskia River. It served as the state capital of Illinois from 1819 until 1839, when the seat of state government moved to Springfield (which remains the capital today). Vandalia was for years the western terminus of the National Road.

Quiet and intimate with decent food. Candles are a nice touch but there are still glaring overhead lights. Service was good. None of our group was thrilled with the chicken or shrimp dishes. The burger was probably the best. We would look for another place next time we come to this area.

Wife wanted to stop in for some chicken tenders (basket) and ice cream afterwards. Friendly staff, clean restaurant. Quick service. Standard prices and such. Enjoyed and would eat there again.

It is listed on the web. Looks like it may be a child of the same named restaurant in nearby Effingham, IL. Just off I-70.
Eating at the Vandalia location isn't really comfortable when they're busy or with a group of more than 4 because of the layout, small tables, and cramped space inside. Otherwise the food is always great! The Greenville location is wonderful to eat in and also has great food and good service. 5☆☆☆☆☆

Best wood fire grilled pizza I have ever had. Loved the sausage and peppers and wild mushroom. New pruchitto bites were good..strong flavor. The garlic cibatta was amazing! Great fresh brewed tea both sweet and unsweetened. Watch the kiddos slots are unsupervised and not very loose lol. Definitely will make it a stop on the way to and from St Louis Missouri again! Very sweet servers... so polite!

This time we stopped for breakfast - and actually, this is one of our favorite places to stop and eat in Illinois.
Breakfast was good - even though we had a simple order: one egg over medium with sausage and toast. Egg was cooked perfectly cooked (which isn't to be taken for granted!). There was an apple cinnamon jam choice - which I don't often see. The sausage was well flavored.
In the past, we have enjoyed their fried fish and taken advantage of their full bar.
We have always had attentive service. Even though this is located near a highway exit - a lot of locals eat here too. Always a good meal!

While traveling from point A to point B, this became our dinner stop for a friend and I. Ponderosa's are getting tough to find. The restaurant has been newly remodeled. The food was good, with lots of variety for both hot and cold food items. Service was excellent. Prices were reasonable. The restaurant appeared to be fairly clean, including the restrooms.

Just simple foods with a great taste and friendly service. Old diner atmosphere, kinda waffle house with the open front grill.

We had driven for 7 hours and wanted something quiet and quick. We really enjoyed the Huddle House in Vandalia! The salads were fresh, the sweet potato fries were excellent. The desserts were terrific. We will stop here again when traveling. A varied menu and very good prices in a clean and quiet pleasant environment.

Standard...good, btw...chicken; but the prices for the meals or individual pieces are crazy high!
Get the buffet, all you can eat for like $8.50?
I'd say, with ALL of your KFC experiences, look for those that have the buffet option.
Chicken continues to be very good
