This new restaurant in Ungaran, since 2010, is different. They must have a creative chef, who composes dishes not found elsewhere. We had 'seafood soup' with mussels and other delicacies served in a coconut, and 'nasi seafood' with a dry-fried fish, a prawn and other things served on banana leaf.
The iced fruit bowls, like 'es campur strawberry' and 'es mangga muda' too were innovative and fresh.
You have the choice having your meal sitting 'lesehan' (on the floor) the Indonesian way, or on western-style chairs and tables. We prefer the latter, with a view on Ungaran mountain.
By the way, Godong Salam is Javanese for 'salam' leaf. Salam being a fragrant leaf of Syzygium Polyanthum, widely used in Indonesia to add flavour to cooked food.

I would like to share my recent experience in visiting one of my favorite restaurants in Ungaran (nearby Semarang). It is really a surprise for me to find there is not even a single review about this establishment in Tripadvisor : Without any doubt, It is definitely one of the best restaurants (if not the best one) in Semarang area for crabs' lovers.
It is one of the top establishments, for crabs, in Central Java (particularly Semarang area) to pay a visit should driving a bit further (out of Semarang) is not really an issue. Under normal (weekend; Sunday) traffic, the driving distance from central of Semarang will take approx. 35~45 minutes depending on how fast he/she is driving.
As usual, I placed an order of two male crabs (super) and two female crabs (regular) as they had none of the super quality female crabs that day : All of them were cooked in the same style, kepiting taoco (crabs with preserved soy beans). For those who like spicy, try it as they taste nicer the non spicy ones. Aside from those dishes, I also ordered kangkung terasi (watercress with shrimp paste; local vegetable) and kodok goreng (fried frog).
All foods we ordered were served within 10~15 minutes as they had to finish serving other guests who were arriving before us. In general, all our foods were tasty (especially the crabs) and one of the main reasons why I gave this establishment a four stars' rating was simply because of their ability and/or consistency in maintaining their food quality over the years. I truly believe the owner really shows their passion judging from the way they cook and prepare all dishes.
I started visiting this establishment since seven (7) years ago and during that period of time, I couldn't notice/tell the taste difference (if any) between the foods they served in the early days with the ones they served today. Although the establishment is being set up in an extension next to owner's house but I personally believe they deserved to earn such compliment due to their ability in keeping up the food quality over the years.
In general, I highly recommend this restaurant to every one who is craving for quality food especially crabs and to make it better, the prices are quite reasonable. Four of us, we spent less than USD 35, all inclusive.

Other than restaurant were really nice... especially if you are not come on busy hours.
The food from the restaurant was so awful. Most of them were too salty. Fish was not fresh, i dont know how long the fish already frozen.. For this kind of restaurant and the price i would recommend them to find better chef..!!

The satay are so tender with beautiful texture, the taste is great, indulging our palate in every bite. They serve a generous amount of peanut sauce in separate cup. The sauce give unique quality of taste for the satay. Add some chopped onion and chilly then it's a perfect combination. The satay is eaten with rice or "lontong", which is rice steamed in banana leafs. A must visit spot if you're in Ungaran.

Ypu can find a lots variant from their products here.
I love being here, seeing many kind of their products here. Which some of them I've never seen in store.
They have little restaurants too in here, with simple menu and many varieties of snacks. Just a so-so taste.

A place where movie and culinary meets. if you love to drink coffee; watch movies; listen to good music; read some excellent books; or just to hang out with your friends, Clapper Movie Cafe is a perfect spot for you!
clapper doesn't disappoint me with its delicious foods and drinks, with unique menu namings that serves its purpose as a movie cafe. the atmosphere is nice and comfortable. and if you're not a fan of smoke's scent, there's an indoor space inside a painted container, the icon of clapper. on lucky days, you may have waiters that speak fluent english--english-speaking visitors, you are very much welcomed. and you will be pleased by the carefully-picked movies selection that plays every night.
