Il Cavatappi

We visited this place on two occasions. ( one night after the other). The first night was good and the food was nice, atmosphere was great and staff were excellent, they allowed us to wait for a table outside and gave us nibbles and drinks ( which we had to pay for).
The food however is not outstanding and not consistent with the good service I have outlined. For instance a green pepper sauce on top of a steak was curdled. A steak was asked to be cooked medium to well but was delivered raw. When staff took away they plate they had most of the vegetables on the plate. The food was returned with just the steak and was asked about the vegetables they stated they had run out or potatoes.
The price is reasonable for the area, a little improvement on the quality of cooking and this has a potential to be one of the best places to eat in the old town.

A traditional Italian setting, complete with plastic flowers. Everywhere was scrupulously clean. We had mixed bruschetta, squid and prawns in batter, which although frozen were extremely sweet and tasty; two mixed very fresh salads and two espressos, all for less than 40 euros. It was very good value for money. Simple food , simply cooked and the waiters were very charming and helpful.

Gelateria Danilo Tarquinia

Located opposite all'ottocentesco Palazzo Bruschi, Danilo Buzzi advance the care of artisan ice cream started or ther forty years ago. Professional ice cream that offers a variety of flavors to be enjoyed in both summer and winter

Reviewed By marcoppi2 - London, United Kingdom

Danilo's gelateria is a small cafè that serves not a huge variety of ice cream but of the highest quality. I was visiting Tarquinia for the day and happened to walk by Danilo's just off the main high street when my eye was cought by the little Mountains of creamy gelato. I walked up to the window and saw my favourite flavour: pistacchio, which had I immagined had only just come out of the machine as it was still untouched. I ordered my double dose and started chatting to Danilo's son who revealed he had just made it and showed me the actual pistacchios he uses, yes he uses real fruits, nuts, chocolate bars in his icecream and was obviously very proud of this as he wemt on to explain how no one uses real ingredients any more, preferring artificial flavourings.
To sum it up Danilo and his son serve artisan ice cream made from real ingredients result of decades of tradition. If you are in the area it worth a visit, at least you will be able to say you have tasted gelato as the locals do and not that watered down, additive laden stuff you get in most tourist spots in Italy.
Ciao

Coco's

Siamo una Ristorante Stagionale il nostro periodo di apertura va dai primi di Marzo a fine Settembre.

Reviewed By ingridiens - Trondheim, Norway

We went to coco's without a reservation and it was completely packed. Luckily we could reserve a table an hour later.
When trying to order our food it turned out that the waitress knew too little English to serve us and we were automatically "assigned" to a different waitress normally working in a different room. This resulted in us being totally forgotten by the second waitress and we had little to no service throughout the evening.
We ordered a large seafood platter for two and the food was very good, especially the mussels. However, it seemed they took several easy turns by serving extra of the easy-to-make food (fried squid) and less of the better stuff (cray fish etc). It also couldn't hurt to remove the black string inside the tiger prawn before serving! (we don't like sand for dinner.....)
The food is worth 4, but the service wasn't better than a 2.

Reviewed By MarcoPro2050 - Boston, Massachusetts

The food was very good: fresh ingredients, well prepared, traditional Italian, well presented and tasty. The service was good (not great). The restaurant was about 25% full yet the staff struggled and were not fully attentive to all. Gone are the days when waiters were well trained and managed professionals who were accommodating and anticipated diners needs. Would I return to dine here? Yes. Would I recommend it? Yes. (There are not many great choices in Tarquinia.)

Ice cream has been invented in Italy. Carpe Diem is one the places were ice cream in continuously re-invented. Their "Cafe", "Fragola" and "Pesca gialla" are foods for gods. One of the best Gelaterie we have ever encountered on our journeys to Italy. Highly recommended.

While staying at the Grand Hotel Helios, we thought we should try out the restaurant also, and we couldn't have had a better idea: the food was great: fresh sea food perfectly served and accompanied by very good wine. The prices were absolutely accessible if you think at the quality of the food, and the owner was very nice with us. You should definitely try this restaurant if you stop in Tarquinia!

Not enough good things can be said about this restaurant! The cozy, friendly environment is sure to make anyone feel warm and the food and wine are superb. The owners, chefs and crew treat each other (and guests) like family, making for a very welcoming experience. They even arranged for a private candle-lit table for two of our guests. The cuisine and hospitality were equally wonderful! Can't wait to come back!

We'd been delayed at Fiumicino. It was late. We were hungry. We saw the sign. We pulled off the main road. Any old food would have done. But although it was 10.30 pm we were welcomed and had a really great meal with friendly service. A wonderful reminder of why we come to Italy!
