Tapachula de Córdova y Ordóñez, simply known as Tapachula, is a city and municipality located in the far southwest of the state of Chiapas in Mexico, near the Guatemalan border and the Pacific Ocean. It is one of the most important cities of Chiapas economically as the capital of the agriculturally rich Soconusco region as well as port for trade between Mexico and Central America. The area was originally inhabited by the Mames as a region under the control of the Mame state of Xelaju but was first established as a city by the Aztecs in the 13th century. Most of its economic importance has come since the late 19th century with the establishment of coffee plantations. This agricultural production began a history of migration into the area which continues to this day and has left the city with a significant Asian and German cultural presence as well as large Mayan and Nahua indigenous populations.

This was our first visit to Toks and was impressed. We were looking for a quick bite before our flight back to Mexico City, Toks was very clean, efficient service and good quality food all for a reasonable price.

The provoleta was below average. The meat was excellent. The wine choice was wide, but expensive. The staff was polite and professional. The place itself is far below the quality of the food and should be completely refurbished.

An open air palapa at Marina Chiapas. Pretty place but the surrounding water is foul. Nice menu. Young friendly staff. Well stocked bar but had to teach the bartender how to make a Bloody Mary. Good selection of whiskeys.
Nacho appetizer was good and enough for the four of us to share. Hamburgers were very good. Club Sandwich OK. Fourth ordered Sandwich was a Chef's special which they forgot to turn in to kitchen. Server was pretty but not very smart. Took her a couple of tries to the kitchen to get the fourth Sandwich. Pretty good when it finally arrived.
Not much business on Saturday but a nice family crowd for Sunday Comida.
Would not go out of my way to eat here but was convenient as we were staying at the marina. Nothing else nearby. If you are not staying at the marina, don't bother.

Whether or not you stay at the plantation, the restaurant is worth a visit (albeit almost an hour from Tapachula, before getting to the Hamburgo plantation..but more interesting than most restaurants in Tapachula). Up, up in the hills...beautiful plantation (nowadays, more dedicated to growing tropical flowers than to coffee...you can take walking/cart tours with guide for a fee). Interesting local dishes with a touch of coffee added. If you stay in one of the rooms, cabins, etc (meals not included), you can enjoy it all a bit more.

This place is not a budget restaurant, and being a meat place it has a few options for vegetarians. It could benefit from a more detailed explanation of their dishes before serving them. That said, some of the beef cuttings and ribs were excellent. Baked potato on the side and salsas were very good. The micheladas were prepared according to our specific requests and they didn't mind us sending one back and making it again. Wifi worked great and they let us bring our dog inside. Service was good.
