Step into another world - small town Alaska where neighbors gather for coffee or to read the paper. Hikers ready to climb Mount Denali sit around with maps, wearing their North Face gear with water bottles nearby, talking seriously while others who have obviously made it back tell stories. The kitchen, which you see behind the luscious pastry display is terribly busy all day long. The cook rarely glances up at those who parade in.
You can get breakfast or lunch at specific times. See the "Breakfast" "Not Breakfast" Blackboard menus. Local syrup specially made is always at hand. Coffee is fresh. But don't expect the folks behind the counter to give idle chit chat. This is a busy though quaint place. You are best to grab your food or drink, sit down and talk with another tourist, or better yet, sit still and people watch. The first room is for to-go orders and a quick sit. The second room is to be seated and order with a waitress. However you sit at long tables like at a boarding house and we found the wait quite long. We prefered to just sit in the first room and people watch. It is a fascinating place to be! It is another world!

Their fresh squeezed carrot, ginger, and orange was an Orgasm in My Mouth; and not in the naughty variety. Would recommend there juice to anyone looking for freshness and wellness.

Stop in for a visit at Flying Squirrel, a unique cafe with creative deli-style menu and artisan breads baked in a wood-fired brick oven. Something for everyone: vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and meat-lovers, too, organic Alaska-roasted espresso, free WIFI. Wood fired pizza on weekend evenings. Three miles from Talkeetna - no tour bus crowds, trees out the windows, open year round.
Three of us stopped in for lunch, all had the celery soup. One was deemed bland, lots of salt and pepper added. The other two took a while to get, but a little salt or pepper was all we needed. The prices are way reasonable for the area. The simple green salad was really good, not so simple. The dressing was also very good. We were too early to try the pizza.

Denali Brewing Company has two locations in Talkeetna. We have a tasting room at our brewery at Mile 2 on the Talkeetna spur road and Denali Brewpub is located on Main Street. At both locations you can enjoy fresh beer or purchase canned beer, growlers and kegs to go. At Denali Brewpub we use only the finest ingredients to bring you a full range of creative, flavorful beers and food. Whenever possible we use local ingredients in both our kitchen and our brewery.
Did an afternoon stop here - Great craft beers and pub food. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff! So many different beers!

We invite you to our lively purple pizzeria, nestled at the foot of the towering peaks of the Alaska Range, in the little town of Talkeetna. Our menu is a collaboration of countless Basilone family recipes. Our famous Pizza Pie, home made Flat Breads, soups with vegetables from our garden, and our legendary Mountain High sauce are a reflection of our family's dedication to bring you the best and freshest food from our kitchen to your table.
We had dinner here. We decided to share a pizza. It was HUGE ! 15 inchs I think.
Trouble was there was nothing on it except a scattering of extra Sun Dried Tomatoes we paid extra for. I have never had a pizza like it. Absolutely plain Jane. It was VERY hot (spicy ) too. In the end we struggled to eat half of it. The pictures on line look great! Not what we recieved at all. The service and atmosphere were ok - just the pizza!

Our river guides suggested we stop by this trailer on the main street that serves ice cream made on site. The flavors change daily according to what fresh ingredients they get. The ice cream is delicious! It is a great treat during your stroll up and down the town shops.

Had a great meal of Halibut sandwiches and Salmon chowder. Waiter was prompt and courteous. The food came out quickly and it was delicious. My only complaint was the pricing of our sandwiches. The menu board special indicated Halibut or Salmon for $16.00-$28.00. Asked the waiter what you could get for $16.00 and was told a sandwich with a side. So I picked the Halibut sandwich and the Salmon chowder. Great meal, but the ticket showed a price of $18.00 per sandwich rather than the expected $16.00. When I inquired why the price was different than what I was previously told, the response was "Oh, the $16.00 price was only for the Salmon" and no offer was made to make things right. Sounded a little fishy to me. Tip Alert: Perhaps non-menu specials should be itemized with correct prices to avoid confusion. Left a bad taste in my mouth after a very good meal.
