Once one of ancient Greece’s most important cities, today Syracuse (Siracusa in Italian) is a lively town of about 125,000 on Sicily’s southeast coast. The city overflows with amazing remnants from its long history. Romans, Vandals and Normans are but a few of those who ruled here after the Greeks. In Syracuse’s harbor, Ortygia Island (also called Città Vecchia or Old City) is the site of many of the main attractions, including the seventh-century cathedral and the Fountain of Arethusa.

aLevante is a restaurant overlooking the Ortigia seafront in front of the Maniace castle. The owners Francesco & Gipi will be happy to welcome you on a Terrace and propose you the original dishes, full of perfumes and flavors of Sicily and Mediterranean sea revisited by the Chef Igor and desserts everyday prepared by Christine. Booking is recommended.
Can't explain how much I enjoyed this restaurant! The owners are very kind and very knowledgeable about food and dining. Casual relaxed atmosphere only enhanced by the high quality and tastiness of the prepared dishes. All homemade pastas which even in Italy doesn't happen enough. Freshest ingredients perfectly prepared. I had one of their signature dishes pasta with pistachio sauce with tuna. Couldn't have been any better!

street food of Ortigia. Dairy Borderi serves a wide range of products and typical Sicilian cheeses made by hand. We are in the market of Ortigia, and the place we serve our sandwiches and platters. We carry out the catering service and ship all over the world.
We found Caseificio Borderi by chance as we wandered through the market. A very helpful member of staff talked us through what was available and we plumped for the sliced meats and cheese platter for 3 and we weren't disappointed with our choice, which also came with sliced fresh bread and a verty large pot of ricotta. In fact there was too much for the 3 of us to finish and we went home with some bread and the ricotta all nicely packed up for us before we left. I think the total bill was €45 which included a bottle of red wine, a beer, water and service, although we did leave a further tip as we had enjoyed it so much. I can imagine this place gets packed out in the summer.

This unassuming little place in a side street specialises in cakes and pastries. But it is brilliant. The arancini are fabulous and the tiny semifreddi desserts are just delicious. This was a much needed stop between the Catacombs of santa luci and the Catacombs of san giovanni. Friendly and delicious. This isnt fine dining. This is Sicilian street food and panini at its best with truly artisan cakes for good measure.

MOON's kitchen is made for curious and careful palates. Ours is a social kitchen where guests can, at any time, ask how the dish they enjoyed was made so that it can be recreated at home. Our menu offers new surprises every day; we respect nature and that which it offers us daily. Everything is made by us: desserts, vegan cheeses, marmelades, pestos. We offer you an experience in which taste goes hand in hand with well-being and with the wholesomeness of the food.
Fully vegan in Italy is a rare treat, location is amazing as is the decor. The wine recommended by the host was wonderful, The waitresses were bored, inattentive, recommended boring dishes, never showed up to offer dessert.... disappointing. Still 4 because a vegan place ?

Pleasant, efficient and low-key service. Delightful ambiance. Excellent and relaxing music. Best of all - simple, honest and delicious seafood. Meaty king prawns, perfectly grilled squid, succulent swordfish, accompanied by crispy fresh salad. Even the complimentary limoncello was drinkable! With a bottle of decent house white wine and coffee, only 52 euros for two. Highly recommended.

My husband & I stumbled upon this little place after walking around Syracuse & we're so glad we did! The food was incredible, great selection of local Sicilian meats & cheeses, delicious sandwiches, salads, etc. Monica was such a delight! We're from Canada & we chatted about her son studying in Montreal! Plus she makes the BEST tiramisu we had in Sicily! Highly recommend this little restaurant!

The new management of the Locanda Maniace is pleased to welcome you and make you enjoy the taste of Sicily with the genuineness of the products and the skill of the young chef, served by a staff that will make you feel in the right place at the right time!
We loved this place — which seems to be a favorite of locals. The food was just delicious. We especially loved the salmon with curry and the sea bass with cantaloupe purée. The pasta are excellent as well. Don’t forget the cannoli to complete you dining experience.
