Hursey Seafoods, based in Stanley Tasmania, is a major catcher of the renown Southern Rock Lobster (crayfish). Patrons can purchase a range of seafoods; wholesale, takeaway or dine-in for lunch or tea. In 1974 James Snr and Valerie Hursey relocated from Dover (Sth East Tasmania) to Stanley (Nth West Tasmania). In 1987, to complement a growing company fishing fleet, a commercial factory/takaway/dine in premises was established as a memorium to James Snr and Valerie's son, Patrick, who was lost at sea attempting to rescue an adventurer, rowing across Bass Strait. In June 2015, the property was extensively renovated and now seats 100 diners, overlooking the bay and nestled under the Stanley Nut. Hursey Seafoods' fleet of nine vessels catches Southern Rock Lobster, Giant Crab, Stipey Trumpeter, Gummy Shark, flathead and other local reef fish. Lobster is retained live in sea tanks on premises, which ensures supply all year and provides consumers with the very best taste. Hursey Seafoods is open every day, apart from Christmas, for lunch and dinner. Takeaway open: 11.00 AM to 7.00 PM Sun - Thu, 11.00 PM to 7.30 PM Fri & Sat Restaurant open: 12.00 PM to 2.30 PM (seated by) & 5.30 PM to 8.00 PM (seated by)
We were told we should book the restaurant because it would be busy. It wasn't because they turn over diners with poor food. We ordered a dozen fresh oysters ($30) which were good, but our mains of sea scallops in a curry sauce ($32) and scallops cooked in a garlic and butter sauce ($32) were both served with over cooked veggies. The scallops were overcooked and tasteless.
Not worth the money.
Should have read the restaurant reviews before we went!!!!

At the Stanley Hotel you’ll find a cold beer, a warm welcome and great food. Our bistro offers quality Tasmanian produce featuring great steak and seafood. Produce is sourced from the local region. In season try the fresh Lobster (crayfish), scallops, crisp battered fish ‘n’ chips, great local oysters, juicy tender grass fed beef and natural chicken.Join us for lunch or dinner which is served every day in our bistro or on our sunny deck.
The warmth on entering the hotel on a cold windy Sunday was a good start! Had pre dinner drinks in the dining room, staff lovely and friendly. Hubby and I shared the seafood plate of Tassie produce and for $49 was not only good value but sooo delicious, none of that usual deep fried tastes all the same stuff!! Presentation of all food was above and beyond what one would expect in a pub. Luckily I’d read reviews and took notice to book as every single table was pre-booked when we arrived around 5.30!

The staff are friendly and helpful. But the salmon aioli in a toasted roll (“foccacia?”) was awful. The two tired salmon slices and a couple of squashed wilted lettuce leaves inside were most unappetising. The flat white coffee was amatuerishly made. Sorry, but if they are...MoreThanks for your review. We are amazed that you didn't complain to us during your visit if it was as bad as you say. Maybe less time criticising businesses would be more beneficial to you during your holidays.

We had breakfast here over 3 days. The menu selections are quite varied from light starts such as 3 or 4 types of toast, up to big breakfast. Choices include Canadian waffles, pancakes, Bircher muesli, eggs in the usual ways etc.
The coffee we ordered on the 1st morning was quite weak and the staff had absolutely no problem putting that right.
All our meals were excellent except for the eggs Benedict which I have to say were the worst I have ever tasted. The hollandaise sauce was just awful and the bacon was tasteless, shame really because we loved everything else including the staff and the service.

This cosy little cafe in the heart of Stanley has lovely coffee and delicious carrot cake. It's also a gift/homewares shop with a nice selection of merchandise to suit all tastes and budgets. We really liked the new owner too - she was genuinely friendly and helpful.

We have been a few time before the last time about 18 months ago,
the new upstairs it very nice and spacious, service friendly. the menu is quite large and most prices at very good like $22 for garlic prawns, overall it still has the essence of the old place, which for us is good. Wine starts from $26 per bottle
we had the lobster cocktail and oysters to start both were very good particularly the local oysters, for main we had garlic prawns and Battered banana prawns, batter was light and prawns very good. We had a very good two course dinner, and will be going back again during our stay

For a place that calls itself the Chocolate gallery they are setting themselves up for high expectations. I honestly have never tasted anything so vile. I had the chili and my wife the caramel. I have to admit they were actually different but equally bad. Powdered chocolate stuff covered everything and although I only drank half three hours later I’m still trying to get rid of the chemical taste. I doubt that cacao beans had anything to do with those drinks.
Go to the pub for a beer instead

I reserved a table for 7pm for 1, arrived a little early which was no trouble to the staff at all. I was given an excellent table, friendly service and wonderful recommendations. The Salad before the Beef is a MUST, the risotto delicious and I had the chocolate tart which wasn’t quite the standard I was expecting but tasty nonetheless. Thank you for a wonderful experience, I can’t wait to bring my husband back here.
