We visited here because of the trip advisor reviews and wasn't disappointed. This is a great little family restaurant with a lot of history, the views of the Mountains are breathtaking and it has 3 trees actually growing in the restaurant. You have to try the cheese pies and the lamb was so tender, probably the most traditional mousaka we have had. Definitely recommend this for a visit while on west side of Crete.

Greek modern cuisine, local ingredients, meat-bbq point
A waiter will invite you inside this full restaurant, but don't get cheeted anyway.
What I am trying to say is, that the waiter praised the grillplatè to the skies, and said that the "grillmaster" had 20 years of experience in cooking fresh meat on the grill. Me and my friend were very disappointed. Maybe some of their other dishes may be good (that's why the restaurant was full), but the grillplatè was a disaster. Only the souvflaki was thender and there greek meat ball the rest (chicken and lamb was so dry that you hardly could swallow the food after after chewing it very well. So be aware. This is just a one time experience. Do not listen to the waiter, when the grillplatè is excellent. I can cook that meat better. His lame explanation to why the chicken breast was too dry was, that fresh meat is "harder" and needs longer time on the grill and sould be cooked, so it's not raw. I agree that it should not be raw, but a grillmaster with 20 years of experience should still cook it tender and juicy.
Well maybe me and my friend just had a bad one time experience.

The owner is super friendly and you can have a nice chat, such an understanding man. Overall the cleanliness is great! The view is nicer than from the beach restaurants. Food is good.

Cozy, family and traditional restaurant with delicious and filling portions, every day specialties. We serve the best homemade wine, raki and rakomelo(raki with honey). We only use our certified olive oil to cook. Hearty service ("Philoxenia") and fair prices. Credit cards accepted. Accessibility to disabled. If you think of celebrating birthday or other events, Amethystos can prepare one completely unforgettable evening. Daily open from 10.00 until closing.
Stayed at the Rouladina opposite this restaurant but didn't eat here until the last night of our holiday. We were a big family group (including children) and we were made to feel very welcome and seated on a lovely Terrace. Both the service and food were excellent and reasonably priced too. Good variety on the menu - if you want fresh fish I think you need to let them know the day before so it can be ordered in from the daily catch. The only downside was that we hadn't visited this place earlier in our holiday - I'm sure we would have returned several times if we had. It's only a little out the way of the main strip in Stalos but really worth the effort of finding. I would definitely go back here and would highly recommend it too.

Visited during our stay for an evening meal.
Good value and delicious food enjoyed with a lovely view of the beach. Good service from friendly and welcoming staff.
Can be enjoyed by families and couples.
Large menu choice, we went for souvlaki and gyros, both delicious and well cooked.
Only complaint is that the food did take a little while to arrive at our table but was worth it when it arrived.

Enjoy the traditional Cretan cuisine and much more in a friendly environment with an amazing view
The food is very good and what I especially liked was that you can eat outside overlooking the water even if it's very windy and cold, because they have plastic, see through coverings which block the wind. When it gets busy (and it seems to draw a big crowd) the service is a bit slow, but that is to be expected. We ate here twice during our 10 day vacation.

All Crete has rich, natural Beauty! One of this places is Roka. One impotrant feature of our village is its archelogical history and of course its natural beauty.Three thousand years ago, at the foot of the mountain. King rokkeas had his Kingdom. Until today, there still exist the ruins of his kingdom, which show their ancinet skills in art and wealth of their culture. we live the good life, which includes cooking tasty and traditional food in the old fashioned way. We built the Taverna as a family and we work it as a family. and of course all of our dishes are made using only the old tried and true recipes, resulting in tasty and delicious meals for you - our valued customers. We, your hosts, offer these to you with love.
We were recommended this place and maybe we chose the wrong dishes but we were extremely disappointed with the quality of the food. Lamb was by far from tender and my daughters pizza was not homemade.
The staff were lovely so we may try again next time.

We are situated in the centre of the old village and have been here for many years. Our building is built entirely out of stone and wood which helps in setting an atmosphere of warmth and good taste. You may prefer to have your meal in our yard which is encircled by much green foliage and many colorful flowers. Our visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy traditional Greek dishes cooked in the wood oven. It is worth noting that some recipes are cooked and served in earthenware. The recipes in pottery is cooked over low heat and braise for some time in the oven, achieving the best result in taste. Using the wood oven for baking traditional recipes inclusion and baking pizza. The wood oven has the ability to literally transform the pizza making crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. This is because the temperature in the oven reaches 450 degrees Celsius.
Wow - so much food !!!!! We were 4 persons and were served food for many more !!!! Honestly portions here are to be experienced - my wife and I shared a mixed grill and we were stuffed . My sister in law had pizza and again a gigantic one , brother in law had a T bone steak and again more like half a cow!!!! For people who starve themselves all day in order to have a great evening meal - Horiatiko takes some beating. Great outdoor atmosphere friendly staff and very good and plentiful food - fantastic restaurant!!!!

We visited here thinking it was going to be a Greek style Italian but it was far from it. Amazing Italian calzone fantastic ravioli and some lovely beers. The decor and atmosphere was spot on. Well done to everyone there, we will be visiting again before the end of our trip.
