The Fontmell has the sort of bar you will never want to leave, a restaurant dining room with the feel of a country house library and six beautiful bedrooms. The pub extends over Collier’s Brook, Fontmell Magna’s village stream, which flows between the bar and the dining room. When the windows are open the babbling brook creates a serene environment in which to eat and relax.
Food was very good. Excellent venue for family and friends. Lovely atmosphere and lovely staff. Excellent Pizza garden in the summer and at New Year we had an amazing spread. My only comment is their red wine list is not great. Thanks for your feed back, it would be interesting to know what you mean by “not great”as we put a lot of effort into sourcing our wines which are mostly organic or naturally produced from small wineries please email me your thoughts [email protected]

Ristorante Amore is a family run business, trading since 1998. Under new ownership as of August 2015, we welcome you to join us for a dining experience of traditional cooked Italian food.
A little strange to walk through a graveyard to this Italian resaurant, sited in an old church or chapel, but worth it. Despite the huge space, the restaurant was warm, with heating supplied by cleverly disguised radiators in the terracotta surrounds. Huge pictures in various Italian styles and the ceiling painted as the sky gave a nice ambience, and the Fountain added to this -shame it was not working! House wine by the glass was very drinkable and our food was good, particularly the truffle pasta. The risotto was swimming in a bit too much liquid, but still tasted nice.

The Grosvenor Arms is newly refurbished, it is traditional yet stylish, relaxed yet ‘buzzy’, and open all day. You are always welcome, for a drink in the bar, a cup of coffee in the conservatory, or a pizza from the wood oven. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and the paved courtyard is always available for an alfresco lunch or drink. The bar, deli and courtyard are open all day for food, 7.30am -10pm, and the restaurant from 12- 3.00pm and 6.00 – 10pm. Drop in at any time to eat at our bar, enjoy brunch, or for tea and cake in the conservatory. We serve great coffee and specialist loose leaf teas. Our relaxed restaurant serves the finest ingredients, simply, but whenever possible, seasonal, local, wild and organic. Our wood oven produces the best thin crust pizzas, and the most delicious slow cooked shoulder of pork...
Met a friend here for coffee and lunch. From the outside it is a very beautiful, up market hotel. So it was a pleasant surprise to find such a lovely country house feel inside. Beautiful decor and ambience. Gorgeous coffee in a comfy lounge. Lunch was a delight. It's such a rare treat to have a real choice as a veggie. There were several things I would have liked to try. Really thoughtful and interesting choice of dishes with fabulous flavours rather than a ' oh we'd better put a veggie dish on there somewhere'.
It was let down a bit on the pizza menu - just margherita which is a shame as veggie pizza is so easy and versatile. But hey I'm nit picking.
I had a really really tasty macaroni with wild mushrooms and spinach. It was delicious. It is a little pricey but when the food is of this calibre it's worth every penny. LOVELY! Thank you.

A splendid location, right at the top of Gold Hill, perfect for a stop after walking up this quaint hill (of Hovis bread advert fame). Unfortunately, we were less than overwhelmed by the service and drinks. My Earl Grey tea came as an unopened tea bag and a teapot of hot water. It was a bit off-putting that the teapot had a stained and chipped spout and the lid did not look particularly clean. My partner's coffee was not the nicest either. For just under £5, it was worth a stop to look at the view down the hill, but I would not visit again soon.

Set in a delightfully converted 17c farmhouse overlooking Hardy's Blackmore Vale and in 15 acres of its own meadow and woodland. Log fires in winter and a panoramic Terrace for summer eating. Our team of chefs produce wonderful meals from fresh local and international produce. An excellent wine list and real ales provide the perfect accompniament. We have several private rooms for parties and a large function room for larger gatherings and weddings.
Standing at the bar with my family the locals were very friendly. They were howling when I order a pint of cider, received a pint of soda water. Wife ordered a Diet Coke and received a lime and lemonade. My wife's drink was full of lime and a dash of lemonade and couldn't be drunk. That was the comedy and it was funny as the lady behind the bar struggled with our language.
The food was really good and the service was superb. The presentation was also good. The trout as a starter was particularly good.
Fantastic venue that is highly recommended.

Our deli serves the best cheese for miles, where we showcase the pick of local classics such as Montgomery and Dorset Blue Vinny, plus the finest examples of the European Greats. We stock cheeses so good, so extraordinary and perfectly matured, you'll taste the difference in every mouthful. Turnbulls Bistro serves seasonal home made lunches with many dishes under £10, made here by us with carefully sourced local ingredients. And our coffee, well, it's Great Taste Award winning, and our hot chocolate special is renowned in Playgrounds from Bath to the Jurassic Coast.
Wanted to find somewhere for lunch on an impromptu visit to Shaftesbury and decided to simply go into the nearest eatery - since we had parked right outside and had my 90 year old mother-in-law with us - which happened to be Turnbulls. And we...MoreI'm glad you enjoyed your visit to Turnbulls. The game platter has been a particular hit, and will certainly be appearing on the menu again in the future! We'll look forward to seeing you soon.

The Mitre is a beautiful traditional pub in the heart of Shaftesbury, Dorset. Serving exceptional food and good real ales. We are very lucky to have breath taking views of Melbury Hill and across the Blackmore Vale from our stunning 3 tiered decking.
Advertised as being vegetarian friendly but only had one vegetarian option on the main menu. Ordered this option and was told they were ‘sold out’ even though the kitchen had just opened? Was directed to another veggie option on the winter special menu, but didn’t like the sound of this, so was left with the choice of only a salad or starter. And on top of this, had poor service throughout the meal. Won’t be coming back!
