With a fresh, de rigueur exterior of barn-red paint, the interior expresses the warmth of a local tavern, using clean lines and a rustic feel. Accented with oak, restored branded wood beams, a white paneled ceiling and wrought iron lighting, the L-shaped room is refreshed, with higher ceilings and massive glass windows that open the space. As before, there is an open display kitchen observing the chefs at work. Newly created for the restaurant is a glass-enclosed wine room flanking the dining room that co-exists with two wood-burning fireplaces preserved from the original Red Barn. Firewood is supplied by the Agin Brothers, the family that has serviced the Nichols family with seasoned wood for ten years. Two wrought iron and rope chandeliers, hand crafted by local blacksmith Hans Duus, illuminate the room and are lighted with replicas of vintage Edison light bulbs, with more of the Edison-styled glass globes accenting the room. The walls are decorated with historical photographs of Los Rancheros Visitores, the club of local horsemen and ranchers dating back to 1929. Salvaged during the construction was wallpaper discovered under layers of paint and paneling, beautifully illustrated with dancing girls, pistols, playing cards and saloons, now preserved, framed, and gracing the dining room walls. JC's handsome bar was created by locals Scott and Chris Bruhn who used a felled pine tree salvaged from Figueroa Mountain to form the expansive bar top.
The food is the star here. Plentiful portioned, extremely delicious food in a casual atmosphere. The shrimp cocktail , prime rib and lamb chops were amazing. Service was prompt and friendly. As is typical of most CA restaurants, local wines are a bargain and we enjoyed a bottle of Gainey Merlot for a song. Overall price was extremely reasonable. Not much to look at decor wise but food made up for it. Easy walking distance from Santa Ynez Inn.

The hot ticket is to go here and have them make you a custom Sandwich ...add cookies and potato chips and head out to Rusack Vineyards buy a bottle of wine and sit on their outside deck and feel the pure pleasure of the Valley. We love this market with it's friendly staff especially the gal that works in the Wine area. This is a must!

We were very pleased to find this little gem in Santa Ynez -- a bakery that serves freshly baked goods, fresh coffee and juices, and breakfast and lunch.
It is difficult to describe the variety of wonderful breads that The Bakers Table produces. Suffice to say that some of the area's best restaurants purchase their breads here.
The meals are reasonably priced and, like the setting, simple but elegant.
Breakfast is a delight, a refreshing alternative to the more traditional diner-style pancake houses in the valley.
For a truly fresh and delicious experience, try The Bakers Table.

Authentic Danish pastries and breads. Family owned by a Danish family from Denmark that moved to Solvang in 1970 bringing with them the families bakery recipes. These recipes were created by the current owner's Great, Great, Great Grand Father. Have a great day discovering our "Danish Village."
They serve the best pastries in Solvang. Large variety, freshly baked and delicious!
Located in on the main street and in the heart of town. They open early and serve coffee and Danish. Once you try their pastries you will want to take some home with you.

Lovely place and great service but latté just too hot.....couldn't drink it for ages and I think the coffee probably started off good but after 15 -20 cooling off minutes it was past its peak.
Please use a thermometer for frothing milk then you'd get 5 stars I think

Among the most exceptional and sophisticated Ballard, California restaurants is The Gathering Table. With its captivating and comfortable atmosphere, The Gathering Table is the perfect place for friends and family to come together for a warm, social dining experience celebrating the bounty of the Santa Barbara wine country – wonderful wine and delicious food! Chef Budi Kazali artistically melds Asian and French cuisine to deliver a truly delectable and extensive menu that features seasonal, locally sourced produce, seafood, and meats. Whether you’re reconnecting with family and friends at our communal gathering table, or with that special someone at one of our more intimate tables, you’re in for a truly remarkable dining experience. There's something on the menu for everyone, and all the dishes are small plates and meant to be shared, so come hungry!
This review only covers the restaurant. I thought the food quality was absolutely excellent. Every dish we ordered was exceptional. That is the end of the praise.
The service was quite amateurish. Most of the staff are early 20-somethings who clearly have not received any training. Our waiter did not have even a marginal grasp of the wine list even though there were $200+ bottles of wine being offered. The chef/owner wandered around introducing himself to some of the patrons (not us) and I was wondering if he could sense that his staff knew nothing. The busboys were almost surly. It was not a 20% tip night........

Since 1995 the Los Olivos Wine Merchant & Cafe has been serving organic, sustainable cuisine along with over 500 wines (mostly local). In fact, much of their produce is grown from their CCOF certified organic farm less than a mile away. The Wine Merchant offers retail pricing and offers a fun assortment of wine related gift items and specialty products. The Wine Merchant & Café has been voted "Top 100 Wine Lists in the Country" by Open Table and has been awarded the "Best Restaurants for Wine" by Wine Spectator since 2007. Whether you are dining or shopping for wine, their friendly staff looks forward to welcoming you with Los Olivos charm.
It was mid-week so it was not crowded and we had a nice table with a view of the fireplace. The server was very attentive and helpful. The wine list is extensive and while the meal choices are not huge there are enough to choose from and those on the menu are nicely prepared.

What a great restaurant in the little downtown Santa Ynez. Easy walking from the Santa Ynez Inn, this cozy upscale restaurant is a total gem. Great cocktails and bar, great menu that isn’t afraid to take chances. The Octopus salad appetizer was shared easily between two people and was awesome!! The pasta special of the night as well as a mushroom papardelle pasta were equally awesome. Our server was so nice and the food arrived right off the stove! The whole experience was the real package. I highly recommend dinner here.

OUR STORY Birkholm's Bakery was founded by Carl "Cookie" Sr. and Charlotte Birkholm in 1950. Birkholm's has been family owned, passed from generation to generation for over 65 years. In 1980, Carl Jr. and Elizabeth Birkholm stepped in to carry on the tradition of baking in Solvang. Carl continues to use the original Danish recipes that "Cookie" brought over from Denmark. In 2011, our son Carl "Thomas" approached us wanting to learn and continue the business like his Grandfather "FarFar" and Father had done before him. Thomas is the 3rd generation of bakers in Solvang and with the Family, he is looking forward to a new beginning. Velkommen Til Solvang
There's plenty of inside and outside seating here at this quaint bakery. I had a very fresh and delicious half-sandwich and salad combo. The Turkey sandwich was fresh, on really good white bread, and a generous portion of Turkey. I had the greek salad, which didn't have many vegetables besides lettuce and a few olives, but the dressing was very good. The feta was kind of powdery. Staff was very friendly. A good place for a quick lunch in a sunny, happy place. I didn't try the pastries but they looked amazing!

Our friend referred us here for the best country breakfast in the Santa Ynez Valley. It was very savory. We ordered chicken fried steak with eggs over easy and biscuits with gravy. This was breakfast heaven on earth. Very tasty and filling.Basically it's a haven for the locals located off the beaten path, and well worth tracking down. Also very fine service.
