Cat & The Custard Cup

Eclectic california cuisine/happy hour/onsite retail wine shop/hidden gem/must try

Reviewed By arturofranz - La Habra, California

We went to a Matinee at the Mark Taper in Los Angeles and rather that find some local place near by and later get stuck in traffic, we headed back to our neck of the woods. We love the Cat and Custard Cup and usually come for dinner.

This time, we came around 6 pm to the "The Cat" as we locals now seem to refer to it. We sat in the bar area between the main dining area above the sunken dining area, nice & cozy with limited seating.

We ordered our favorite but pricey cocktails: Cosmopolitan and Sazerac. Our appetizers followed with their excellent sweet glazed pork bellies & grilled green beans.

We had good time, drinks and food was great....Plan to be back for a repeat encore.

Happy Harbor Restaurant

This is my second visit of Happy Harbor. You would be perfectly happy if you do not ask the private dining room, for which they have a predetermined dollar amount of spending. The taste and quality and presentation of the food is excellent, service impeccable (do not engage in conversations in Chinese though). A bit pricy, but the quality justify the price. Your friend(s) should be impressed. Nice ambience inside a large open space dining hall. I recommend crab & fish maw soup and lobster sauntered with ginger and green onion. Try other dishes at your own risk, but it would be very minimum.

The Iced coffee and pastries at this location were just average. Its a large and busy location , so expect to wait in line to get your pastries and then wait a while to get your drinks. They have a great selection of dessert and breads. It also has indoor and outdoor seating options. Overall could be better on the quality and freshness. We recently just went to the one in Azusa and it was way better in this regard than this location.

Benihana

Reviewed By caliiitrav

I've frequented this location about three times before but this review is specifically for my most recent visit a couple days ago. My first impression was not a good one. I called to see if I can push back my reservation half an hour and the person who answered was rude and rushed to get me off the phone. She did say that reservations have a 15 minute grace period so I kept the reservation. I'm glad that I did!

Our server was Judy (Mei Yee) and she's hilarious. Great sense of humor and really took the time to take care of everyone at our table. This was the best service I've ever had here and to top it off, our cook, Mario, was also the best cook that I've ever had here. Previously, I would frequent Benihana for the entertainment and not so much for the food but on this night, everything was on point! Thank you to Judy, Mario, and the manager of the night who did thank our table for joining us for dinner. I love when the manager takes the time to come say "Hi!" to everyone.

For the entrees, the quality and taste really depends on who your cook is. Mario's the best so my food came out 5-star quality. I hope to get him again next time! I would also recommend the chicken fried rice that's $2.50 extra...it's worth it! Mario also had some funny jokes that I'm not going to tell you because it will ruin your experience. Make your reservation (a MUST because it was PACKED) and have a good time. Kids really love this place too so it's definitely kid friendly!

Parking: Private lot. Benihana shares the same parking lot as Sam's Club. If you're looking for the restaurant, it's pretty hard to find off Gale as the sign is not so noticeable so definitely look for Sam's Club!

- A but pricy compared to other Mexican food in the area, but because most others are fast food or chains and this one is a sit down restaurant where you can have a party or reunion.

We ordered fish tacos (so-so), carnitas (very good), wet burrito (good) and enchiladas (good too)~~

Creamistry

Reviewed By OCFoodDiva - Anaheim, California

Signature Premium Churro tastes exactly like a churro. It has the right amount of cinnamon and sugar for that churro flavor. The sugar crystals add a contrasting texture to the creamy ice cream. Rating: 5/5

Signature Premium Peanut Butter with Raspberry Sauce tastes just like a PB&J. It's great for the kids, but adults will like it too. It is a trip down memory lane of mom packing your lunch for school. The peanut butter ice cream is packed with peanut butter flavor - almost as if you are eating it right out of the jar. The raspberry sauce adds a sweet and tart tang and will remind you of jelly or preserves. Rating: 5/5

Signature Premium Captain Crunch is like frozen breakfast heaven. The Captain Crunch stays crunchy and adds a sweet corn and oat flavor. If you are like me and grew up on the cereal, you have to try it. It is the #1 flavor sold at Creamistry. The ice cream base becomes your "milk" with the cereal. You just have to try it and be amazed! Rating: 4.5/5

Signature Premium Cookies & Cream is like having Oreos and milk. Oreos on their own are not super sweet so the flavor is more subtle in the ice cream. The chocolate cookie stays crunchy and adds a nice texture to the mix. Rating: 4/5

BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse

Reviewed By Jski529 - Lincoln, NE

BJ's offers fair happy hour specials on drinks and appetizers. My California flat bread was very good with chicken, avocado, bacon and tomato. The house brews were $1 off. The brussel sprouts were very good and plenty for 2-3 people. Our glasses of water sat empty for much of our dinner and the waitress was hard to find or this would have definitely been rated a five rather than a four. The food was impressive though for a sports bar type restaurant.

Olive Garden

Reviewed By Michael R - Walnut, California

We have been coming here since it was first built years ago. I have always liked the Tuscan decor and little faux vineyard outside. Presently, the Olive Garden is featuring their "Never Ending Pasta Bowl" special. They are usually always busy, but we were seated immediately. Our waitress, Faith, was friendly and attentive. I had the angel hair pasta alfredo with sausage and my date had angel hair pasta 5 cheese marinara with chicken meatballs. Both dishes were delicious and large portions. The refillable salad, soup and bread sticks were excellent. Their breadsticks are so addictive. Soft to the bite with olive oil and salt. YUM! Also, the soup we had was really good. I can't remember the name, but it was a creamy soup with chicken, vegetables and little dumplings. It was great! We did a couple of pasta refills and then were too full to order more. After we had finished and got the check, we decided to hang out and have coffee. Another waitress, Carlena, took over and really helped us out with our coffees and also was very funny and very nice! Olive garden now features a little touchscreen kiosk at each table that you can order food, play games and or join their e-mail club from. It also has a waitress call light feature that will flash a red LED light on top that will alert your server when you need something. We really had a great experience here and I recommend dining at this restaurant even when they don't have a special promotion on. The prices are always reasonable and the food always delicious. Try it out!
