Rende is a town and comune in Calabria, southern Italy, home to the headquarters of the University of Calabria. It has a population of about 35,000, or more than 60,000 if the university students living there are taken into account. It is divided in two parts: the old town, which is stands on a high hill, and the modern area, on level ground, which is part of the urban area of Cosenza and is the centre of the city's economy.

Hostaria de Mendoza is located in Rende picturesque old town.
Thr atmosphere is familiar, in all aspects, since the restaurant is managed by a nice lady and his son.
The menu is typically local, especially for "country" cuisine: mushrooms, capocollo, caciocavallo cheese and, best of all, black truffle of Calabria. Taste the black truffle in Tagliatelle all'Occhio, together with egg and cream: superb !
Wine list is very good, especially for local strong reds.

Upon entering this gave the impression of being an upmarket restaurant however our experience was entirely to the contrary. The staff were unfriendly and offhand.
The pasta was dried out as was the small amount of sauce which just stuck to the pasta. Some of the pasta was actually crunchy suggesting that it had been cooked previously and reheated. There were only two tasteless tiny marble sized meat balls. One member of our group only had one meatball. Very little was eaten by each person. The next course consisted of two small egg sized rolls of vbeal containing some sort of filling plus a serve of particularly oily potato pieces. For sweets I had a small piece of very dry fig tart without any cream, custard or icecream. After so many lovely meals recently in Sicily and Calabria this meal was a disgrace. I have never before had occasion to write such a damning review of a restaurant. I have had better meals at cheap ordinary cafes and grills. I cannot fi9nd one positive thing to say about the meal which is without the worst restaurant meal I have ever had in my quite long and well travelled life.

This is just one of the Rossopomodoro restuarants, they have many throughout Italy and the rest of the world (the one in the US is in FL, Naples of course).
The restaurant is modern, bright and has a large menu. Beer and wine are served. It is mostly pizza and it is good pizza. Remember that when you see a pizza that has ricotta and sausage, that is what it will have on it, i.e., it only will have red sauce if it states it. Unlike the US, pizza here is not assumed to have sauce unless it is ordered that way.
This is a casual, but neat restaurant. It is nice enough for a casual business meeting but also very family friendly.

Fresh seafood cuisine . Raw fish. Calabrian cooking meat on reservation
Great service, great food, good atmosphere. The town does not offer much, but it deserves a visit just to have lunch/dinner in this place. I recommend the testing menù: it takes you on a journey of taste for a very decent price. All courses were...Morethank you so much

Best meat in town! Excellent service and food! All cuts are of great quality and if you want to keep it cheap the entrecôte in all varieties is superb!

We came here with friends and were surprised at the variety in the menu. If you're tired of always having pizza (which can happen in Cosenza...) then this is the place to be. Aside from pizza, they have burgers, and some fried stuff, and a good selection of beers--including Kilkenny and Guinness. The price overall is quite reasonable. We've been coming back a few times ever since!

Although it is located in a place not easy to find without indication, it revealed itself to be a gorgeous place to have dinner. Service is very excellent, the staff is very nice and friendly, ready to satisfy all the request. Cuisine is excellent, with right proportioned portions of food and peculiar dishes of exquisite taste. Price is acceptable taking into account that beverages are included. Highly Recommended

Friendliest service we got in this region of Italy, outstanding pizza ("carnivore"), super tasty pasta alla Nostrana... And a sharing platter for starters which was out of this world. The choice of drinks is also great. Only regret is being too full to try their desserts. Definitely check it out!!

Amazing meat cuts, grilled to perfection! We order podolica, Argentinian and black pork dishes and all were amazing. Grilled zucchini and aubergines or potatoes on a skewer as side dish are perfectly cooked! Service is simply excellent, ready to satisfy any question about both dishes and wines! We've got "il gatto" and "la volpe" as our waiters and they were very knowledgeable about their menu understanding our personal preferences and ready to advise the best for each. Must add the wine list is excellently chosen mostly from regional wineries. I'll come back again and again.
