Ourense is a province of northwestern Spain, in the southeastern part of the autonomous community of Galicia. It is bordered by the provinces of Pontevedra in the west, Lugo in the north, León and Zamora in the east, and by Portugal in the south. With an area of 7,278 square km it is the only landlocked province in Galicia. The provincial capital, Ourense, is the largest population centre, with the rest of the province being predominantly rural.

What a delightful restaurant in Allariz. A must if you're passing through the food is fabulous but the owners are so friendly they were happy to accommodate 5 tired cyclists with open arms and great food. I definitely recommend it to all travelers passing through

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the world. And to give you a context, the other restaurants that I feel fortunate to have dined at and that fall into this “favorite” category include: The Inn at Little Washington, (Virginia, U.S.A.), The Waterside Inn (Bray, England), Boka (Illinois, USA), Ngorongoro Crater Lodge (Ngorongoro Crater, Kenya), Rumfish y Vino (Placencia, Belize).
FOOD: New Galician-style food with traditional fare options done with a bit of a modern touch. The flavors are perfectly balanced; the food is deliciously fresh, the ingredients are carefully thought out and the presentation ranges from simple, to rustic, to pretty. You really can’t go wrong with anything you order as the seafood is superb and the meats are succulent. And unlike many restaurants that only shine with their savory options, the dessert here is a pleasant end to a wonderful meal. I’m honestly not sure why this chef has not yet received a Michelin Star- but all I can say is that Javier delivers. The only reason I can think of that he hasn’t received this honor is that the province of Galicia is an under considered destination despite its majestic landscapes, impressive history and wonderful fare.
LOCATION: It is perfectly located in the “Casco Viejo” which is essentially the architecturally historic area of Ourense. When you arrive at the restaurant (a formerly private home) you must ring a bell as you stand in a little portico- somewhat reminiscent of the Prohibition Era in Chicago. Within seconds you are greeted at the door by a warm smile. You then enter back in time into a rustic yet elegant room that is filled with wine, ham legs, copper kitchen pots and a number of pictures of noteworthy individuals that have stopped in to experience for their self what all the buzz is about, such as The King of Spain, that quietly decorate the walls. As you proceed through, there are two dining rooms that are equally inviting and romantically enveloping.
SERVICE: All of the staff is friendly, professional, knowledgeable and inviting. And it helps that Ana, The Maître d', speaks English well enough to guide those who are limited to in their Spanish through what will undoubtedly be one of their best culinary experiences in Spain.

We were looking for a restaurant to celebrate a birthday and we decided to try La Table after Reading the reviews on TripAdvisor. We definitely did not regret our decisión, quite the opposite. The restaurant is on the outskirts of Ourense on the face of a hill and has the most beautiful views of the surrounding área. We were greated with a smile by the hostess which is the Chef Patrick´s wife. She gave us the warmest welcome to the place and sat us by a wall of windows as we were admiring the view.
We were served tuna and sardine pates as an appetizer which were delicious. The starters were very generous portions, I had the Salad Gourment and my companion had Hojaldre sabor del bosque which was a puff pastry with wild mushrooms in a sauce..... Both dishes were pleasant but presentation could have had a little more finesse, saying that, the taste was lovely for both dishes. For main course, I went for the monkfish and my companion had the duck. Both dishes were quite lovely but perhaps not as accomplished as we were expecting but tasty nonetheless. Dessert was nice, we both had creme brulee, which for a french chef were were expecting more from it and left us slightly dissapointed, the nicest part of the desert was the accompanying garnish. Food overall was good and pleasantly surprised but perhaps slightly altered for the local taste. All in all, we were expecting more french flavours to the dishes. On saying that, still we would highly recommend the place as we enjoyed our meal. We have gone back for lunch and had the Menu del Dia, which was excellent value at €13 excluding the drinks & bread. We both agreed that the menú del dia was a better meal than the dinner.

Nova offers 3 different menus and changes them weekly, so the menus always include seasonal products from the region (wild mushrooms now for instance). We choose the first menu (28€/pers without drinks), and were utterly impressed and pleased with the quality offered. Service is very professional. Choice between 3 types of artisanal breads. All extra´s (water, wine, coffee) are very well priced as well : for instance 1.30€/coffee, and a selection of gourmandises is included (the cook brings them himself, so you can chat a bit with him...something one can appreciate in this type of restaurant). Wine (all from Galicia) list is large and varied. A must when going to Ourense!

This is the only restaurante in Ourense that serves fresh caught fish from the ocean...nothing from fish factories. You need a reservation. Our fish was grilled perfectly and came with local potatoes and greens. We also had great wine from the local area. A great homemade dessert and orujo...the perfect meal and priced below other places we eat at. Every table was filled at 1400 hrs...standing room only and everybody was eating like "no tomorrow"....highly recommend. Parking easy in the street close by.

A cosy, small dining area with rough stone walls is hiding in the back of this bar. The food was excellent, with very nice touches on local specialities. Friendly waitress, which was a bit too friendly with other customers before out dessert (slow), but it did not ditract too much. The "flan de licor de café" tasted too much of alcohol, but they still get the full score for delicious local red wine, stewed meat and salad.

One hidden place you shouldn't miss where to eat alone or with family . Spacious and cozy and great music. Beautiful garden you can see eating in the Terrace if you book in advance. Food is delicious and very good quality , ask Gustavo for spice sauce he does himself .
Wines are very good. And desserts too .
Good place for drinks (gins).

We went to café Pacifico to check it out based on Tripadvisor reviews and it was such a great discovery. We have gone back for breakfast and coffee ever since when in the área. The coffee is very good (something rare in Ourense as our experience has been hit and miss). The pastries are home made in-house and you think you have travelled to Paris, they are that good;, they are crispy and warm first thing in the morning and absolutely delicieux. The variety is small but so perfect. Toast are amazing, they have 3 different types of bread you can choose from and with different toppings, honey & cinnamon, Tomato & Olive Oil and Butter & Jam. The presentation alone is outstanding and oh so pretty, you even feel sorry you have to eat them! The place is as charming as its food. There is a large feature table at the back for clients to share (although spanish do not like to share their table with anyone! which I find it quite amusing). The staff are very helpful and profesional and it shows how much they like working there, they always serve you with a smile. It is such a pleasure to go there, and you tend to linger with a cup of coffee and your tablet/laptop working away. Couldn´t recommend it highly enough. Fingers crossed we can manage a evening meal reservation as it seems it is another treat to the tastebuds.
