This was my first time and it was a fun, exciting, and delicious experience. You enter downstairs and select the meat from Dominico (the butcher) who wraps it and then you go upstairs where it is cooked. My cameriere were Giuseppe and Bella Cosmina, who took very good care of me. The food was delicious, but be very careful not to order too much meat. The buffet upstairs of vegetables is delicious and compliments the meat entrée. I had a wonderful time here including a "laughing session" as I was leaving with Dominico and Giuseppe...fun for everyone. The food is good and the price is fair. I need to also mention the house vino (primitive) which was excellent and I was told because there are no sulfites in it...for a house vino it was really good. Next time I am anywhere near Bernalda, I will eat dinner here. Grazie a Dominico, Giuseppe e Cosmina per una serata bellissima, non la dimentichero` mai.

It's an unpretentious place. Although the décor includes nice photos on the walls, the rest of it is plain and modest. But the food is outstanding and the house wine is good. They speak little English there but do their best to accommodate you, even bring samples of the food items to explain the menu visually. Very friendly and hospitable service. They even presented us with a booklet on Basilicata at the end. The place was full of locals, always a good sign. Decent prices.

Simply, the best steak dinner I ever had, comparable to the top steak restaurants in North America, but with a warmer, family, friendly environment. Tonino masterfully prepares the best cuts of meat, his beautiful wife cooks it to perfection, and Tonino's son, Francesco picks out a fantastic Basilicata wine to match the meal. Second to none, its a must stop if your visiting the area.

AltraPizza, a few meters from the center of Matera, is a take away pizzeria with home Delivery service and 30 seats. Our pizzas, soft, light and crunchy, are the result of a maturation of 96 hours and cooking in a wood oven. Wide range of doughs (moringa, cereals, kamut, senatore cappelli and many others).
This place is incredibly busy and getting a table is quite hard. But once you do, the pizza is excellent. They put quite a lot of toppings on the pizza and a generous amount of cheese. The base is awesome and is freshly baked in the stone oven. Definitely worth a visit!

The Farmhouse "Pianura delle Vigne" is located in Scanzano Jonico (MT) at 1 km from the pristine Beaches of the Ionian coast, about 35 km long from Metaponto to Nova Siri.it has an air conditioned dining room, which can comfortably accommodate a max 50 seats, with outer cover to be able to enjoy the traditional flavors in the pristine green of the surrounding nature; The kitchen only typical Lucan, revisited thanks to the imagination of the chef, proposes the ancient flavors of the past; flow rates are accomplished only through own production or with local productions.
Onesto e buono. Consigliatissimo

A local suggested we try Peppino's 'restaurant'; difficult to find as it is really a butcher's shop! But there was a lit sign outside with the title above, which meant absolutely nothing to us. But we entered, to find the counter empty of meat; then a Falstaffian gentleman emerged, announcing that he was 'Peppino, and please to come in.'
We were ushered to a table in the back, and greeted by a jolly party eating nearby.
They had perfect English, and told us they had been hunting the woods for Porcini; also that we would eat no finer meat than Peppino's in the whole of Italy.
And yes - plenty of excellent meat, following a salad picked from our host's own garden. So who carted about paper plates?

We had a substantial meal of local antipasti, many small interesting dishes, a little different from those usually provided in the area, followed by pork from local black pigs - very succulent and tasty. The restaurant is small but very welcoming and charming and the service is helpful and attentive.

A stiff place, where thy like to show off, whilst opening a bottle...but make other terrible mistakes...we ordered the watermelon with scallops received a pork sausage, this was rectified...and the scallops dish was wonderfull...they sugges pasta with truffle only to tell there is no truffle, again wonderfull pasta no discount...whilst the star of the dish is missing...followed by flavourless chewy chicken...expensive for what is is...certainly not the best in Maratea
