after visiting Swartberg Pass we reached Prince Albert and had lunch at the Lazy Lizard.
It was a pleasant surprise to see the fresh homemade food that they served us in that place that initially we could not tell if it's a restaurant, a souvenir shop or maybe some office.
We enjoyed the tasty breads that were served with soup, then a spinach quiche with salad and for dessert we had several delicious options (my favorite was the apple pie), served with tea or coffee.
Service was also very lovely and the whole atmosphere was great.
You should visit there if you are in Prince Albert, you won't be disappointed.

Brent Phillips-White, owner and executive chef at the Gallery Café is self-trained and uses his passion for ingredients and fresh produce to excellent use creating dishes inspired by his many and varied travels. Elements of the Mediterranean, Middle East and the wonderful spices of Asia, from India to Vietnam, are incorporated into many of the dishes. The most popular meals feature game (currently black wildebeest fillet), local Karoo lamb dishes and duck, port and black cherry pie. The favoured vegetarian meals are the North Indian Brinjals Albaras or the vegan dish Quinoa Risotto. In winter, heartier fare such as lamb bredie (stew), or heart-warming shanks in a rich tomato and red wine sauce, or Osso Bucco with Saffron Risotto reappears. The Gallery Café’s lamb, vegetable, chicken and game stocks are made from scratch and Brent takes great care to source local ingredients, many from the garden he planted to supply the restaurant. Other components of his meals come from farms and farmers’ markets between Prince Albert and George; Belgian Chocolate is couriered monthly from Gauteng. The menu for the Gallery Café remains consistent with seasonal changes, made to accommodate the availability and quality of the produce. Brent has a small team in the kitchen to help create these dishes daily.
On our second visit to Gallery Cafe we found the food as good as previously but the attention of the staff to be poor, with long waits to be served, and little attention to the detail we were used to. We were placed on the veranda, next to a table of about 12 male customers that seem to celebrate a male only celebration more suitable for a second rate pub. This forced us to be moved as the noise and swearing became unbearable, with the Gallery staff having little regard for the other clients. A top class restaurant will not allow this, so we will rather avoid this eatery in future visits to Prince Albert.

Today on Christmas Day we enjoyed a very tasteful lunch, even the best one during our many stays in South Africa. There are four starters, four main courses and three Deserts
offered in the Set Menu at just 290 Rand... and a glass of Champagne was included because of Christmas. Also a nice Amuse Gueule was presented. We ordered gnochis for the starter (very tasty!!) and a slowly cooked lamb shank with mashed potatoes and baby vegetables for the main course (perfectly cooked...cannot be better in a 3 star Michelin Restaurant!!).For desert we had chocolate truffels with pineapple mouse (a dream to melt away!). We drunk a bottle of Fernskloof Merlot, which was unbelievable smooth...we never expected such a great and organic wine from this area.At the end we drunk a nice Cappucino. After two hours we felt totally happy with our meal, which cant be better in the expensive restaurants in Provence or Tuscany. Our BIG compliment to Hendry!!!

Garden restaurant serving daily breakfast, lunch, teas, coffees & cake. Local, fresh organic ingredients. All food baked in an Aga stove.
We never stayed overnight but I checked out a couple of the rooms and would happily have settled in for the night The proprietors are friendly - country-style folk and even though we were only window-shopping in their deli & general dealer area, they could,not...MoreThank you Brian for taking the time to pay us lovely compliments. I do hope you return for a stay with us. Best regards, Colleen

They call themselves a larney farmstall. It is so much more than that! A gorgeous little shop and lovely little breakfast spot. Service is slow but there is plenty to look at while you wait.

The menu stays the same: soup or fish salad to start,chicken/lamb pie, bobotie, roast lamb (choice of one. two or three) hot pudding or malva pudding to finish. Take your own wine and cash. The food is consistently good and served in the front rooms or the stoop. You must book and be prepared for a warm welcome and a fun evening. A must for any visit to Prince Albert.

Although they have a vast range of foods and dishes, we only ordered pizzas for a late night meal after attending a show. Very accommodating - we ordered the pizzas before the show, they allowed us some changes for the toppings and kept it for us warm until after the concert, as their kitchen closed at 22:00. Pizzas were delicious!

After a long trip up the Swartberg Pass we decided to lunch in Prince Albert. This was our forth trip up the pass, and as yearly visitors to South Africa it is one of our favourite spots.
The Swartberg Arms turned out to be a wonderful surprise!! This place is not fancy but the food was great.
We ordered hamburgers and steak sandwiches and they were amazing. Also the hamburgers were so large that we took half home.
The fries were also nice and the service was pretty good.
The prices, compared to some of the "fancier" places were much lower, therefore it was excellent value.

An ambient restaurant on the main road in Prince Albert where Chef Ridwaan and Zelda infuse dishes with spice, fragrance and love reflecting our diverse African cultural history and Karoo hospitality. Healthy food made real good! To make a reservation for a Friday or Saturday evening, give us a call. Be sure to phone us early on in the week as spots are limited!

We also offer a range of therapeutic treatments including Aromatherapy, Holistic Massage, Reiki and Reflexology by appointment.
Regular daily Yoga and Meditation classes are also available at Simply Saffron.
This restaurant was recommended by our Air bnb host. She waxed lyrical and we were keen to see if the restaurant could possibly live up to her glowing review. It did, and then some! Eclectic decor, attentive service and wonderful food at a great price. Unlicensed and no BYO charges. We worked our way through the courses and were sorry to end our evening. Even sorrier that we do not have another opportunity to plan a return visit.
