Kelly's Steakhouse has, in short space of time become one the favourite restaurants for Portlaoise locals and visitors alike. Black Rock is our speciality - this is an exciting and healthy dining concept where you cook your own choice of meat on a volcanic stone. Enjoy the fantastic atmosphere and tantalizing aromas as your food cooks in front of you! And if you don't fancy steak, we have an extensive menu with plenty to choose from!
Had a very good meal here last night.
Nice booth table and the service all night form the staff was excellent.
Two perfectly cooked steaks with good chips, potatoes, veg etc.
Nice enough garlic mushrooms to start and my wife enjoyed her prawn starter too.
I thought my cheesecake dessert (pear, vanilla and white chocolate) was a bit bland and enjoyed the taste of the pavlova my wife got a bit more.
Overall very good experience.

Daytime cafe & foodhall - organic meat, home baking, reasonable prices, deli, all day breakfast.
This resultant does well because of lack of competition and a good location. It could be a gold mine but instead they serve not so good food and pay little attention to cleanliness and exceptional service. I'm not saying everything is really bad but everything is just average or below. I read a review two weeks ago suggesting the menus be relaminated and I was in there Friday and the menus are a disgrace. They are greasy and tattered. I was glad to see on my most recent visit that the lovely corner with toys for the kids was not filthy dirty like it normally is. I was left waiting at least 15 minutes for my order to be taken this time even though restaurant was not busy and there is no way I wasn't seen as I had to cary a baby and drag a high chair most of the way across the restaurant. On the food.... This visit was not as bad a usual. I had the Thai red curry. Last time I had the Pancakes and they were dripping in black oil???. Who wants Pancakes cooked in black oil which was obviously used to cook something else before hand. The brown bread is good. Just pull up your socks and take pride in what you do. Keep the toy area clean (get rid of toys that can't be easily wiped down.... And then wipe them down or get rid of them alltogether). You have a big problem with grease being served on the plate with the food....That's just not on.....but I'll probably return again and again due to the location.....but I have told others about my experiences there and I'm sure others have too.

We visited here at the behest of our son .
To be honest we were unsure what to expect, and like many similar situations we were more than pleasantly surprised .
The ambience is pleasant, the staff helpful and friendly and most importantly they have a fabulous menu that doesn't just live on paper .
After our first visit we promised to return and have done. We have not been disappointed.
Well worth a visit , even for a meat and 2 veg like me.

We offer really good, wholesome food, at really affordable prices. We bake all our own bread, scones and our desserts are also handmade. All our meat is Irish and sourced locally. We serve food from 7.30am - 8.00pm daily.
This hotel has been there for a long time. It's a traditional hotel with a bar downstairs and rooms upstairs. No lift.
What is best about this hotel is the personable service. The staff member that I dealt with at reception was genuinely helpful and eff icient. It's hard to say exactly what was so nice about this place but there is a good vibe and great service.
The rooms are quirky and traditional.
The room we had was a little dark but it was spacious and again there was a nice atmosphere even though there was no view and the only window looked out on a roof.
The hotel is situated in the old part of portaoise town. There is a cinema and a theatre just around the corner. A couple of nightclubs, cafes etc.
Portlaoise might not be a cosmopolitan location but just maybe I'd give it a chance now that I've seen this hotel.
We stayed because it was so reasonably priced and we were attending a big concert in Dublin. Dublin hotel rooms are so expensive now that it makes sense to stay in Portlaoise and drive in. It takes about 55 minutes to Dublin city centre.
I stayed in the Maldron on another night as part of the same trip and despite the shinier facade of the maldron, O loughlins is now my favourite in Portlaoise.

124 seater day time restaurant, with outdoor Seating and scenic view. Rafters has a modern, chic, and cosmopolitan feel to it and serves everything from Breakfast, sandiches, panini's, wraps, ciabatta's, wide selection of carvery items, kids menu, coffee's, tea's, lattee's etc...
The title says it all I had a bad experience at this cafe much to say I spend plenty for it and it was not a good experience. The staff were attentive and as it was nearing to closing time not a good place to go to to get hot food. The burritos wrap was chilli for a 12 year old not very edible he likes hot but this was super hot. The chicken goujons very spicey for my 8 year old she only ate the veggies, husband had chicken curry very presentable but was cold and my dish well I thought I was getting unsmoked salmon which I did get and it was warmed up so no it was not a good experience now I had made my complaint however after the experience I dont think I want to go back however I was offered another meal if I wanted to go in. It happened close to closing time so the best advice go early it may taste nicer and hotter. For me it was a bad one. I will go to the pub. At least there I can get one drink with it.

A taste of real home cooking and premium coffee (3fe) is on offer at The Pantry where every single menu item is prepared in our own kitchen by a small team of enthusiastic foodies. In addition to a wide range of fresh salads, customers enjoy savoury tartlets, frittatas, quiches, roulades, ciabattas, wraps, paninis, open sandwiches as well as hot lunch daily specials. Tasty gluten free preference catered for. Wellknown for outstanding home-baked pastries and cakes, this is a fulltime owner operated neighborhood eaterie where a warm welcome and friendly, efficient customer service is guaranteed. Did I mention that we also serve REALLY great coffee :)
I have been into the Pantry on many occasions over the past 3 years since I’ve come to reside in Portlaoise. The display of top class savories & sweets as you walk into the cafe is surely ‘mouth watering’! I enjoy the Banoffi, Meringues, Quiches and salads which are expertly prepared and presented or simply a fruit scone and multiple choices of coffees and teas! Ideally located along the Main Street and has an Egon Ronay Award.

Casual dining at it's best!DescriptionRelish strives to be the leading casual dining restaurant in Laois. This will be achieved through good value, great tasting food, impeccable service and a warm atmosphere. At Relish you may enjoy your meal in our modern upstairs restaurant or downstairs in Delaneys bar.
Went here on our first evening in Portlaoise. Very pleasant and helpful waitress. Good variety on menu and the food was very tasty. We had chicken wings to share as a starter followed by a Spanish Salad and Cajun Salmon with noodles. Lovely bottle of New Zealand wine. Would recommend.

Sarah catered for a large family breakfast for 25 and everyone was delighted by the quality of food, the fast and friendly service and the lovely atmosphere. Nothing was a problem, celiac, vegetarian, smaller portions and bigger, Sarah took it all in her stride.

This is my favourite restaurant ever. I desperately look forward to my next visit. Today I went with my husband and 2 children (9&6), as always the quality of the meal was outstanding, but you know it's going to be just by the delicious smells from the kitchen. We were served by Dave today and he engaged with both kids and was patient and helpful when they ordered for themselves. It's a very relaxed atmosphere and very child friendly. Please visit I know you'll agree, Claire
