Located on South Carolina's beautiful Grand Strand, Pawley's Island is the laid back alternative to the Myrtle Beach vacation. Shopping, dining, or golfing is all within reach. Just south of Myrtle Beach, Pawley's Island is best known for the Hammock Shops, a unique shopping experience of quaint small shops nestled under trees full of Spanish Moss. You can find everything from shoes to local artwork, or you might choose to go golfing on one of the many world-class golf courses in the area. While Pawley's is quieter and more relaxed than nearby Myrtle Beach, the latter's close proximity provides infinite possibilities for dining and nightlife. Murrell's Inlet, a quaint fishing village, and its bevy of seafood restaurants is just up the road and also has a Salt Marsh Preserve. Simple but delicious hamburgers at the River City cafe or finer dining at one of the hundreds of other restaurants are all within short driving distance. After dinner you might seek out one of the many venues for arts and entertainment. The Carolina Opry is well known for its amazing shows. You can see a live show or dance the night away…or both! Enjoying the beach is the obvious activity but there is so much more to do than just that. Parasailing is a popular option, as is a visit to the Huntington State Park to explore the local flora and fauna. The park has many programs to entertain and enlighten both the young and old. On the grounds is Atalaya, the home of the artist Anna Hyatt Huntington. Just across the street is Brookgreen Gardens which features many of the sculptures of the artist as well as the lovely manicured gardens.

Visited about 6 years ago and in the area today and just had to go back. Food was fabulous. Had a daily special salad and my husband had a daily special pulled pork sandwich. Both excellent. Since its raining decided to do dessert, went with the homemade ice cream. I eat a lot of ice cream. This was one of the best ever. Definitely recommend the food.

Menu is world cuisine with a Mediterranean focus. Craft cocktail bar with a ridiculous liquor selection. 100+ beers. Incredible wine list. In-house aged usda prime beef. Sous vide cooking. Separate Tapas and small plates menu from around the world. Fresh proteins, not frozen. Local fish and beef, wild only salmon in season (NO FARM RAISED FISH!). Berkshire and Iberico pork. Organic, all natural, no growth hormones, no additives. Many gluten free choices.
I've had favorite restaurants over the years; some of them make a big splash and then quickly burn out in a blaze of glory that usually mean's someone's life savings has been lost. Some of them open with a whisper and build a reputation that sustains them indefinitely. Some of them open to fanfare and high standards that slowly get lowered toward mediocrity, because of not enough (or too much) success. All of them have something that makes (or made) them pleasingly memorable some way. And all of them have had something that wasn't quite right, some element that just didn't harmonize with the rest of the elements. Except Perrone's.
Perrone's Restaurant is one of the most perfectly manifested expressions of an idea, the most fully realized singular vision, of any "place" (restaurant or otherwise) that one is likely to find or visit. Anywhere.
Atmosphere matters. All restaurants these days seem to have some attention to "art." But it's usually an afterthought, or a rotation of artists, styles and themes that don't really connect to anything else in the place. At Perrone's, one is surrounded by art that clearly *belongs.* "We were considered," the paintings, art glass and other decorative items seem to know. "This is where we belong." Just as the art projects the feel of a well-curated gallery or personal collection, the furniture has an eclectic feel, sort of like an antiques shop where the owner really knows what things work together. The furnishings are practical, comfortable, and beautiful. Now, how many restaurants have furniture that can be so described?
Service matters. It's really all about hospitality. It's really hard to have a service team who are able to be genuinely warm and welcoming, while remaining completely professional. In most restaurants, it seems it's one or the other: they have the warmth down, with genuinely nice folks who have no idea how to properly guide guests through a meal, no sense of timing, and no clue about personal boundaries. Or it's the other extreme, with career servers who have vast knowledge of food, beverage, and the machinations of service, who clearly think they are superior to their guests, and who really have no concept of hospitality. It's amazing that Perrone's has found and maintains the perfect balance.
Food matters. The menus at Perrone's read like gleeful offerings of a seeker, a collector, someone who loves food, loves learning about food, and eagerly wants to share with you what he has found, what he has learned. "Try it *our* way, the menus say. The offerings are really "all over the place" in the best possible way. There's something for everyone, except that one person in every hundred or so, who is only pleased when he can loudly declare his displeasure. The food and ingredients *really* matter at Perrone's, and it's evident from the menu, to the preparation, to the presentation, to the tasting and eating.
I recently took a special guest to Perrone's, someone who isn't very adventurous with food, and whose diet is also limited. I knew there would be things on the menu she would love, but I was a little afraid she would be intimidated by the menu and wouldn't want to try something that was described differently than what was familiar to her. She immediately felt comfortable, and ultimately probably would have been more adventurous with choices, but I had promised her the best Reuben in the world, and that's what she chose. Later that afternoon, she said, "That really *was* the best Reuben in the world." Ah.....
Kind of like an earlier reviewer whose first experience at Perrone's was so perfect she assumed she had dreamed the whole thing, I'm sort of afraid that I'll wake up one day and realize that I dreamed this gorgeous place with this amazing food, this restaurant that feels as if it were designed specifically for *me.* But until that happens, I will keep enjoying Perrone's every chance I get.
Further proof of the magic that is Perrone's: a separate and impressive Tapas menu and service area, within a restaurant that really isn't all that big. Who does that? An amazing cocktail menu and probably the best mixologist I have ever seen work, who can entertain everyone at her bar while she mixes drinks faster than humanly possible. A separate wine bar? The most extensive wine list I have ever seen?
Try Perrone's. Instead of fighting with "it" and trying to make it be something that's already familiar to you, listen to this restaurant. Let it tell you what it is, let it tempt you into trying something different. Something enchanted. Like this enchanted restaurant.

We've eaten at Caffe Piccolo several times and have always had a spectacular meal. The scallops with risotto are a particular favorite. The staff is friendly and efficient. There's a lovely outside dining area with fireplace. We recently brought guests from up north who were amazed that we could find such great Italian food down south.

We are vegan so eating out can be limiting but we were not disappointed at Pastaria. You can get a delicious pizza with no cheese, and really fresh vegetables like tomatoes, garlic, even eggplant. The thicker crust is great as it can hold more veggies. The pizza was excellent - we all were really happy! My mom who is vegetarian got the fettuccine and she loved it also. The service was very friendly and prompt. We enjoyed the whole atmosphere of the place - busy, bustling, but prompt service and delicious food.

Now entering their 25th year of operation, Salters and Elizabeth McClary have established what is irrefutably one of the Lowcountry’s best and most sought after restaurants. The story behind the dream-come-true is interesting. The restaurant was named for Frank Marlow – the gentleman who operated Marlow's General Store (for forty years!) where the restaurant now sits. Natives remember the store – and Frank – with obvious fondness.Salters worked as a bag boy at Marlow's during high school. Some years later he confided his dream of opening a restaurant to his former employer. Frank promptly announced his intention to retire and proposed his old store as the perfect spot for the new venture. In a matter of months, one Island institution was transformed into another. History repeats itself in that folks clamor to get to Frank’s. Then and now, Frank’s is a Pawleys classic.Featured in Gourmet, Bon Appetit, Southern Living, National Restaurant Magazine, and South Carolina Living Getaway with Sandra Lee, Frank's is really two restaurants in one. In the main dining room, there's candlelight and white linens and a bustling bistro atmosphere that is both intimate and energizing. The food is award winning. There is an extensive selection of appetizers for those who enjoy exploring lots of options or eating a bit lighter, as well as several new entrees. The ambiance here is decidedly elegant, but in no way stuffy. Don’t wait for a special occasion to give it a try.Frank's Outback is – quite literally "out back" of Frank's. Here, beneath an umbrella of trees strung with lights, there's a marvelous open-air bar, expansive decks, an enormous fireplace and a cozy indoor dining area, as well. Private rooms are available. It’s a bit more casual than Frank’s, but no less appealing. Lots of appetizers, small plates, gourmet pizza from the wood-burning pizzas and several specials daily. It must be noted that Frank’s and Frank’s Outback Bars have great atmosphere and are favored by locals. Many meet at Frank’s for an end of the day celebration. The wine list, hand-selected by the owners, is reasonably priced but reads like a who's-who of the world’s vineyards. Many of them are available by the glass. Both bars open at 4:00 PM. With free Wi-Fi, one could finish their work in a relaxed environment, grab a favorite appetizer or stay for dinner to make it the perfect ending to the day. There’s no place quite like Frank’s and Outback. The best advice comes firsthand, so ask any local where to eat. Chances are Frank’s will be at the top of their list. The professional wait staff is outstanding. Reservations are essential, so please call ahead!
Franks Outback (never once have we sat inside) is truly unique and charming. We love the Litchfield/Pawley's area in general but our visits over 20 years would never be complete without a visit to Frank's. Outback is just beautiful and welcoming. The outdoor giant fireplace is so inviting along with the plants decorated with little white lights, candles and fire pits...and not to worry...heat lamps are on as needed. I come for the GOOP! Roasted garlic bulbs swimming in olive oil with rosemary, capers, olives spread on delicious toasted bread. Add a glass of wine...it's a meal for me at the bar or the community table. Hubby had the poke tuna app tonight and said it was fabulous. They have a full menu and a wonderful selection of entrees as well. The service is always great. You can tell everyone here has been trained in true hospitality, sadly a lost art in so many places these days. Just love this place and have for many years.

One of Pawleys Islands most popular dining destinations is Chive Blossom Restaurant & Bar. Shaded by signature Lowcountry live oaks, the establishment is owned and operated by Paul Kelly and Trina Renualt, culinary professionals who combine their skills to create Southern classics with flair as well as delicious dishes with Mediterranean, French and Asian influences. Incredible soups are a mainstay; Trina’s crab soup is local legend and not to be missed. All soups are offered in sips to a quart. Enjoy a taste, or take home a bounty! Choose from a variety of speciality salads, sandwiches, entrees and desserts. Only the freshest ingredients are used, and the menu changes seasonally to take advantage of the locally sourced seafood, meats and produce.

This is one our family favorite places to eat. As aways very good food and very good service. This time of the year it’s easier to get a table if you get there before 6-630 pm. Just a note to anyone going in for the first time. Go up to the take out counter and pick out your favorite dessert in the case and have them put it aside and then sit at your table,. Because what you see is what they have for the day and when your dinner is over your choices may not be there. This is a big Deal if you have Kids/Grandkids.
Enjoy and the Best Part the Owner Drives a Jeep like this old guy even if it never sees the dirt.

This location is so good it's usually a wait to get in. Family friendly, down home breakfasts and a full lunch menu. They close at 2pm. I usually get an omelet. They're great. Their granola like pancakes are delicious. Very good sized portions. A lot of hustle and bustle because they are ALWAYS busy but you can still relax and enjoy a good meal. Casual atmosphere. Our guests that come to town always want to walk the beach at sunrise and then head to Eggs Up.
