Pátzcuaro ( ˈpatskwaɾo (help·info)) is a large town and municipality located in the state of Michoacán. The town was founded sometime in the 1320s, at first becoming the capital of the Tarascan state and later its ceremonial center. After the Spanish took over, Vasco de Quiroga worked to make Pátzcuaro the capital of the New Spain province of Michoacán, but after his death, the capital would be moved to nearby Valladolid (today Morelia). Pátzcuaro has retained its colonial and indigenous character since then, and has been named both a "Pueblo Mágico" and one of the 100 Historic World Treasure Cities by the United Nations. Pátzcuaro and the lake region it belongs to is well known as a site for Day of the Dead celebrations.

Right on Plaza Grande overlooking the plaza. Can eat inside or on the patio. Freshly squeezed orange juice, terrific coffee and a great selection of local breakfast dishes along with the more well known typical Mexican offerings. Very tasty, we’ll served and very reasonably priced. Worth a visit.

Beautiful, new restaurant with wonderful, Mexican/American food. Reasonably priced. As you face the Basilica, the restaurant is located on the left corner.
After a long day of driving it was very pleasant to be welcomed by the Lupita staff. Quick, professional service provided great Margaritas and the house wine was a suitable cab sav from the Guadalupe Valley.
The arrachera was well portioned, very tender and accompanied by a variety of fresh, roasted vegetables including small white local onions, peppers and potatoes. The Mediterranean salad was fresh, with a spiced olive oil dressing, the pesto pasta tasty and satisfying.

p3½* Campestre Aleman
14 km south of Patzcuaro on Hwy 14 south
view of Lake Patzcuaro
Forestral setting; 3 ponds (to farm the trout?) with geese and ducks
Beautiful wooden posts
Kids’ playground
German cuisine; al fresco covered dining
Loved the 4-6 person appetizer plates; could be entrée for two persons sausages, German cole slaw, smoked trout, gouda cheese, garlic bread
The trout was tasty
Chamorro was good
The beef medallions were underwhelming
Nice wine list with reasonable prices
The best apple strudel; but the problem it was ordered a la mode. The ice cream arrived ten minutes before the strudel
Food service questionable

We visit Ivo's regularly for his breads, awesome brownies and coconut cookies. They are all staples in our abode!
We have also enjoyed his pizza very much..both eat in or Takeout.
There are tables in the entryway but you can also eat in the courtyard which is shared with a Mexican restaurant (very good margaritas made by the super friendly proprietor) and a sushi restaurant. Fun to enjoy a margarita or whatever in the courtyard while waiting for the pizza.

We went there for dinner one night and I ordered the carundas. I got to love corundas during my visit. I didn't feel they were very good here compared to the other places I tried them. They did have a guitarist in house the night we went and I liked that. The guacamole was very good.

This is a small 10 stool-at-the-counter restaurant located between Plaza Grande and Plaza Chica on Calle Irturbe. It doesn't start serving until 12:30 PM weekdays except Monday (closed), but that doesn't stop people from grabbing a stool inside at noon to be among the first served Tuesday through Friday. They open earlier on weekends and the story's the same. These are my favorite carnitas anywhere. Get there early and you get to pick your favorite pieces. Get there late and you don't eat. If you like pork, do NOT miss Carnitas de las Plazas. The food is usually gone by 1:30, so consider yourselves warned.

Pizzas Mandala in Patzcuaro, is located in a beautiful house with 3 cozy spaces. We have a large garden for peace of mind for parents who can watch their children play while enjoying their drinks. Our decoration pays homage to the Michoacan crafts and we have parking. And most importantly: Without any drugs, Mandala pizzas are addictive.
We have been in Pátzcuaro since the beginning of March and have had five trips to Mandala. Both Takeout and eat in. So far, yes, this is the best pizza we have had in town. Many choices of toppings but we seem to be stuck...MoreWOW my friends, Many many many thanks for your kind recommendation. Next time we will have Caesar Salad and Caprese, in addition to the Nicoise that you already tasted. A warm hug and see you soon ... Enrique

We came to Patzcuaro probably on the busiest weekend (dia de muertos) of the year. So at lunch we waited for more that 20 minutes and no body was able to give us the menu or offer anything so we decided not to stay but enjoy a drink and the view from the place.
At night we came back to give them a second chance and it actually paid off well. They were very attentive, pizza was delicious, place was comfortable and they actually apologized for the service in the afternoon mentioning they had a few call outs and were short on staff.

Very tasty food, beautifully prepared, reasonably priced, easy parking nearby. The sopa Tarasca is superb. The aguas are freshly made. The desserts are excellent. One of the best places to eat in Pátzcuaro in my never-humble opinion.
