Named for a local swamp fish, Paraty sits on Brazil's southeastern coast, 125 miles south of Rio, with the Bocaino Mountains at its back. The small colonial town's center is a national historic monument with well-preserved buildings on its pedestrian-only streets. Take a boat trip out into the bay to the flotillas of islands and coves nearby. Explore sugarcane plantations and hike or take a train through Atlantica Forest. Keep an eye out for the monkeys that roam the cobblestone streets.

We haven’t been for a while and decided to come back this weekend. It was again an wonderful experience...the service was prompt and very efficient, we decided for wine by the glass and the waiter gently offer us to try a sipping before choosing between red or wine. The appetizer of pasteizinhos were divine. We ordered the spicy shrimps with red rice and the squid risotto. Both were wonderfully presented, good quantity with enormous shrimps and squids. Fresh ingredients, well cooked and seasoned, spices to the perfect level. For desert, I went for the rain cakes with catupiry and guava, decorated with algodão Doce...just sublime.

Restaurant opened in 2007 in the area of Ponte Branca (6 km from downtown), it has 7 tables and capacity for up to 20 people. The kitchen is headed by the Parisian Chef Christophe Legond while the room is up to his wife, Adriana. The menu features some classic French cuisine and some copyright options. The starters are single and the main dishes for 2 people. Due to the small structure and size of the room, does not accept groups or children. Bistrot with romantic atmosphere, candlelight and French music. It works only on weekends (Thursday to Saturday) and eventually (with reservation, high season or local events) on other days and times. It is recommended to book in advance.
Pros: the decor is absolutely delightful, full of french pop culture items. The food is amazing, had an amazing risotto with truffles.. the price is very reasonable for the region (+-R$ 100 / plate).
Cons: very small restaurant, need to book in advance..

Having dinner at Luciana's place...the well hidden and super cute restaurant Alquimia dos Sabores, was a life changing experience... Her Cuisine touch is no doubt one of the best Gastronomy Master that I have met in my entire life so far. She combines tropical fruits with all kind of meats, she mix salt with sugar with such perfection. She is a big fan of Brazilian Food and research old grand parents recipes to adapt in the Contemporary World Cuisine. I think the whole world and of course us brazilians should go there. It is a homely environment, absolutely decorated with such fine good taste. Luciana knows a lot about Brazil and she has amazing stories to tell all the time!!
All the words that I can find to express what we had tasting the best of Brazilian Food there is amazingly useless...You do have to go there and try yourself.
The region where Alquimia is located is a wonderful mountain place full of Waterfalls and Wilderness. When they open for lunch you will have the chance to walk through the forest and see the Pereque-Açu River. Go to Paraty and say hallo to Luciana. She is one of the most plesant and interesting person that I know.
And it is great for a ROMANTIC DINNER
Do not forget to call for reservation, her place is very well known in Rio and São Paulo States.

While recently visiting Paraty we happened upon this restaurant and decided to have dinner there. The overall experience was excellent! Service was top-notch and the menu was varied. Even as a vegetarian I had some good options. For starters we had an acaraje appetizer -- very tasty. And the main course dishes were also great. The service was extremely attentive and friendly. And the restaurant is very well decorated AND (important for the Brazilian summer) is actually cooled with A/C. I highly recommend it!

Restaurant specialized in traditional Brazilian food with homemade touch. Good variety in seafood of the day, purchased directly in the fishing grounds. Great variety of Brazilian cuisine. Open all week and close on Sundays.

Outstanding beach bar with attentive service, great Seating, and great views. Very close to Paraty Center...only about a 15 min walk and the first bar you find on Jabaquara Beach.

Brazil attempts Lebanese. No, not really in fact this restaurant has little going for it based on what we experienced which is a shame as we were looking for something different after many mediocre offerings in South America. The main beef dish when it arrived was dry and bland, despite request for something with a bit of kick. My wife’s chicken which should have come with some sauce was overcooked, dry and frankly very poor. The price was high, the service was below average and the girl taking our hard earned money has never heard of the word “smile” or been told that in the service industry the idea is to be polite to guests even if you won’t see them again….. because remember, the power of TripAdvisor can determine if people visit your restaurant or not. Close to 700 reviews, take my advice and give this place a miss and check out the many high quality Lebanese restaurants in other towns/cities that genuinely offer high quality food at reasonable prices and served with a smile. You have been warned dear reader.

We actually were there earlier when this place had no entry on tripadvisor. I could not put a review because I was unable to add it, since I could not figure out how to specify the address and location.
This is not fine food, but the experience is truly enjoyable. Brazilian comfort/slave food at its best. It's mentioned as "African" here, but I would really call it Brazilian, albeit with strong African roots.
We plan to return on our next trip to Brazil next month. We'll make a detour just to be sure to go, but we'll skip Parati and its overpriced tourist traps altogether, whether hotels or restaurants.
Added value is that apparently the old road to Cunha through the park has now been fixed and should be manageable.
