Papantla (Spanish (help·info)) is a city and municipality located in the north of the state of Veracruz, Mexico, in the Sierra Papanteca range and on the Gulf of Mexico. The city was founded in the 13th century by the Totonacs and has dominated the Totonacapan region of the state since then. This is the home of vanilla, which is native to this region, the Danza de los Voladores and the El Tajín archeological site, which was named a World Heritage Site. Papantla still has strong communities of Totonacs who maintain the culture and language. The city contains a number of large scale murals and sculptures done by native artist Teodoro Cano García, which honor the Totonac culture. The name Papantla is from Nahuatl and most often interpreted to mean "place of the papanes" (a species of crow). This meaning is reflected in the municipality’s coat of arms.

Had breakfast here. The balcony has a lovely view of the main square, and you can observe the comings and goings in Papantla from here. There is also free wifi, with the password indicated at the table.
Had a Mexican breakfast (Desayuno Mexicana), which consisted of an orange juice, very weak milky coffee and enchiladas (which came with refried beans and a salad on the same plate). Food quality is okay, but nothing to rave about. So the average is more for the free wifi and the views.

This restaurant is number 4 in Papantla (if you don’t count Naku twice) on Trip Advisor.
I chose to go there instead of going to Agora restaurant because it was in my hotel, Tajin.
Reception is ok, you can sit where you want. The restaurant is nice, the tables are not too close to one another which ensures privacy.
The menu is comprehensive. From Sandwich to hamburger, to pasta to shrimps.
I started with a cream of mushrooms. It was delicious.
I then ordered shrimps in a butter sauce. It took a while but it came. Without sauce. I told this to my waiter. He said he would see. He never came back. No sauce, no excuses, nothing.
Desert was a cheese cake that was only so so.
The bill wasn’t. I was immensely disappointed.
I don’t recommend this restaurant.

We went to this restaurant for dessert. At the door, there were people in local dress dancing for approx. 15 minutes. After enjoying that, we were given a table in a restaurant full of Totanaca people and cultural elements. Over real vanilla ice cream (vanilla is grown locally following traditional methods), we spoke with the owner and some of the employees about their goal of promoting the Totanca culture in the area not only to help the local people but also to promote tourism. We also enjoyed tasting the local etole (maize drink mixed with hibiscus flower extract). What a lovely experience it was! What a wonderful way to promote sustainability. What a way to eat ice cream!

This restaurant is named for the people of Papantla. It is one of the two restaurants of the hotel Tajin.
I had breakfast twice there. Cost for breakfast was 100.00 mex pesos. A bit expensive especially considering that the Plaza Pardo, for the same breakfast, cost 72.00 mex pesos.
But it is convenient if you are staying in the hotel. The menu is comprehensive with dishes for all purses.
Price is reasonable for a hotel restaurant.

totalmente recomendable
