Dress appropriately please, no shorts and beach sandals in the restaurant.
I’m sorry to report Marmalade delivered a disappointing experience at Mainland costs. At this price point, I’ve enjoyed many world-class dining experiences and this was far from it. Both food (the absolutely most important element) and service missed the mark completely.
The food: Only half of the dishes were good or decent. The rest were boring, underseasoned or simply not good. I can overlook service issues if the food is truly stellar, but most of the dishes were just ok. No wow factor here. Best dish of the night was the chocolate dessert. The lobster risotto also hit the mark with tender rice and plentiful lobster. Worst was the lamb tagine where the sauce was thick and odd. The halibut also underwhelmed, depending on a miso broth that couldn’t carry the dish.
The Service: All Waitstaff seemed frazzled, running around, without signs of any wait assistants. Serving a multi course dinner with wine pairings is not a one-person task. Wine pairing need explanation (only half of the time pairing were explained). Timing should be on point. Tables should be cleared completely after every course. Our waitress was gone most of the dinner. I can’t blame her completely; this is a sign of poor administration. The chef/manager are to blame here. This is fine dining folks—you should know better! Needless to say I’m not returning. San Juan deserves better.

We were recommended this place by our Airbnb host. It is not as good as other coffees in San Juan. It is also near the crew ship terminal, so you get a lot of people and it doesn't feel like Puerto Rico. I wouldn't go here again. The coffee was decent, but the staff was not the friendliest.

It can be challenging for a vegetarian in Old San Juan, so it was nice to find this pleasant healthful restaurant on a busy street. Get the avocado stuffed with greens, tomatoes, and some very nice cheese. Everything was fresh and delicious. Add the side Chilean salad (tomato, onion, cilantro) for more flavor. My omnivore spouse enjoyed the avocado stuffed with chicken as well.
We sat in a small side room that was a cool and quiet respite from the street.
With drinks the cost was $50 for two people before tip, mid-range for a full-service place in Old San Juan.

Come and enjoy our International, Caribbean cuisine in an intimate atmosphere. Give yourself and your loved ones, one the best culinary experiences in Puerto Rico in our romantic and unique atmosphere.
At first the location, the setting, the restaurant, everything looks perfect, petite restaurant which makes the service more personal (that I loved). Drinks where spectacular 10/10 definitely. Service was really great too. As an appetizer I got the Filet Mignon Carpaccio, it was ok, too much herbs for my personal taste but it was good, definitely a 7.5/10. We asked for tapped water and they ended up charging $8 per bottle of water, so make sure you are aware of that charge because it took us by surprise. I asked for the Boneless Lamb Shank... took 3 hours to make, I was being patient because my friend is friends with the owner. But I would never wait 3 hours for anyone or anything. When the dish arrived it looked physically appealing, it was kind of beautiful. But the taste was horrid, definitely not more than 3/10. The meat was put on plate full of beans, the beans where good. But the main course was a 40$ plate so I would expect something a bit more magical. It wasn't. I ended up paying $85 just for my two plates. Which is kind of ridiculous for Puerto Rico and usually places that charge you this much give you your food in a timely manner. Its just my experience, but I wouldn't go back. I have a love hate relationship with this restaurant at this moment, since I loved the decor, but the amount of time it took for the food to arrive in an uncomfortable chair in the bar was deplorable.

What a great find! We were staying a few blocks away and found this restaurant. You enter from the hotel, take the elevator to the 4th floor and then walk up one flight of stairs. The manager, and all the staff, were great. The wait for a table was 30 minutes -- no problem - as we enjoyed a few amazing mojitos. The food was very good and a great ambience on the rooftop.

Creative Puerto Rican food in a neighborhood gem. Good service, knowledgeable staff. These are the places I love to find , I'll be back. Filled with locals on a late Sunday lunch...4.00 pm. Smoked Pork chop tender and tasty, grilled shrimp cooked to perfection. The menu is well thought out and creative matched with best of daily fresh ingredients. The cheese flan, great for sharing was too die for....

Found Pura Vida while walking around the Plaza. Very friendly staff and servers. Nice many with several different options....chicken, beef, seafood, and vegetarian. I chose their alfredo sauce with linguine and added salmon. My husband decided on teriyaki salmon. Oh. My. Gosh! I can't say enough - that is the BEST alfredo I've EVER had!!! Fresh and made from scratch...if people wouldn't have stared - I would have licked my plate! And that's just MY meal! My husband's teriyaki salmon was equally amazing!! We playfully argued about who gets what. We were checked on periodically to see how things were and were remembered when we came back the night.
Needless to say...we're hear again now...having the same thing!!!

Breakfast and lunch, all kinds of pastries and cakes, opens from 6:00 am to 9:30 pm Monday to Sunday
Great place to have breakfast or lunch; loved their coffee and "Sobao' bread" (soft bread) you can eat all the bread at once, it's sold by pound and believe me it's the best. They have a variety of pastries and sandwiches, also, you can order scramble eggs with toasts. This is not a huge place but a lot of people go there everyday; the food worth the wait!

This lunch place in old San Juan is definitely worth seeking out, it is hidden in plain sight.
Decor is interesting, quirky and certainly adds to the whole dining experience. The staff are very knowledgeable about the food they serve and are very pleasant with just the right amount of chat. The menu is interesting and the food is delicious.
We enjoyed it so much we visited the next day before leaving San Juan, and again could not fault it.
