Orvieto [orˈvjɛːto] is a city and comune in the Province of Terni, southwestern Umbria, Italy situated on the flat summit of a large butte of volcanic tuff. The city rises dramatically above the almost-vertical faces of tuff cliffs that are completed by defensive walls built of the same stone called Tufa.

On the hunt for the best gelati in town, we had to try this popular gelateria. Service was perfunctory, prices not the cheapest & ices not the most generous on our scoop index. We ate baccio (huge chunk of chocolate included, probably not intentional) pinoli & fior di latte. All creamy & fudgey in texture, too rich for our taste. This tasted like very good traditional ice cream, but lacked the purity of more modern gelati.

We were visiting Orvieto, tired and hungry looking for a good place to eat.
So we read these TripAdvisor reviews and stumbled upon this lovely little restaurant—and let me tell you it’s really cosy with a nice atmosphere. It made our day!
The waiter was very nice, friendly and cheery. We ate pasta which is homemade, al dente and delicious. You could actually taste the eggs in it, really tasty.
One was pappardelle with wild boar—amazing seasoning, meat and olive oil. The other was tagliatelle with ragu sauce. I recommend the wild boar one.
Then we had traditional tiramisu cake and this absolutely divine chocolate mousse that’s serves with this yellow cooked cream and pistachio. If you visit this place, the mousse is a must have!

Specialised in old traditional regional recipes, which were almost lost.Specializzato in antiche ricette storiche del territorio che si erano ormai perse.
I was so lucky to find this culinary gem. What I found was not just excellent, tasty food, but a passionate team of women making food based on centuries-old recipes. Do you want to find out what the Italian nobels ate in the 16th century, during the Renaissance? Well, here you can try it yourself. This is a unique experience not to be missed. And it's not just the food, but the warm and personalized service. They make you feel so home that you never want to leave. The young (and very beautiful) sous chef also speaks fluently English, and she provided great recommendations for choice of meals and pairings, based on your preferences. If you consider yourself a foodie, this is an absolute must when visiting Orvieto. I just hope they have a table for me, next time I'm in town!

We rented a cottage on a farm in Orvieto & our hosts recommended this restaurant to us as a place they visit regularly. We were not disappointed. The home made pasta is superb - we asked for "dividere" (to share) for our 1st course & then had fillet steak in red wine sauce for our main course - the quality was superb for this also. The house wine was reasonably priced & there was an assortment of good breads. We will definitely revisit. We were advised to book as it is very busy.

This is a good family run restaurant with a menu comprising local dishes of all kinds, the food was well prepared and tasty, the service was excellent and friendly. We were asked if we were enjoying the food by both the waiter and the chef. Wine is served by the glass if required and there are daily specials.

Restaurant with typical Umbrian cuisine. Use of local products that represent the gastronomic excellences of the territory. The freshness, simplicity, authenticity and quality are our strengths.
The restaurant is located near the train station. The inside is charming. The clientele is a mix of locals known to the staff and tourists. Both pasta dishes were delicious. We also tried the backed porcini (which had arrived fresh that day)...very, very good. Parking...MoreThank you for your compliments from all staff !

Went back for a second night as the service, food and wine were all excellent. Fresh ingredients cooked to perfection. The pasta was delicious with a fresh take on traditional dishes. The ravioli with burrata, pepper and mint was amazing - as was the mushroom pasta. The local wines were fantastic value. Highly recommended.

We had dinner here recently as it was recommended by our hotel. We arrived and were warmly greeted and we loved the well appointed and comfortable restaurant. Our server was very friendly and answered our questions. We were told by the hotel to try the "anti-pasti d'Orvieto" which we did and wow! It had local cheeses, meats, vegetables, bruschettas and more! Every morsel was delicious and it was all artfully presented. The kitchen took great pride in its work as it should. As we were enjoying our meal, the restaurant filled to capacity with locals and visitors alike, this is obviously a local favorite for many in Orvieto. We even saw one of the staff from our hotel enjoying a meal with friends!
This restaurant had it all - great food artfully and carefully prepared, very caring and attentive staff and service and very reasonable prices all in a beautiful room. Our meal for 2 with the antipasti, main courses, water and wine, dessert and coffees came to 60 Euros! A wonderful experience!

The Orvieto territory and the entire Umbria region boast a remarkable food and wine heritage and a centuries-old tradition of hospitality, whose basic principles are the simplicity and genuineness of the products offered. The excellent extra virgin olive oil, the fine wines, the typical pork products and the precious truffles are just some examples of the millenary Umbrian culinary tradition. Spoil yourselves with our unique menu in the elegant and relaxing atmosphere of our dining room and panoramic environments. You may also choose to dine on the unforgettable Terrace nestled among the olive trees, which offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding landscape. The wines of our Altarocca Wine Cellar are, of course, featured on our exclusive wine list, which also includes a wide range of the best wines, sparkling wines, champagnes and dessert wines. Our Maitre Sommelier is available to suggest the perfect wine selections to personalize, accompany and enhance your dining experience.
The reviews on Trip Advisor are accurate. The Altarocca Restaurant, overlooking Orvieto and at the Altarocco Wine Resort, has attentive service by young, smart wait staff, scrumptious foods, noteworthy wines from their own vineyards and amazing value: 52 Euros for a 5 course tasting menu with wine pairings. Wow! Would I dine here again? Yes, of course. Would I recommend it to other? Yes, of course.
