A hard day moving house and decided we wanted Pizza, so drove up to The Junction hoping La Pizzeria would still be open.
Luckily for us it was.
The pizzas were absolutely yummy. The kids had a 9 inch Pepperoni, the wife a 9 inch Meat Lovers and I polished off the 12 inch Bacon, Anchovies and Jalapeño. Bellissimo!
Excellent, fast, friendly service and a glass of nice Pinot Noir left us a very happy family.

We had been so looking forward to the Matterhorn reopening for the winter. Last year we considered it the best restaurant in Ohakune by far. This year they've gone all Asian fusion and the result was really disappointing. Initially the concept was exciting but the execution and tastes were way off the mark. Food was lacking in the flavours promised on the menu. For next year please go back to the old format where you showcased fantastic New Zealand meats and produce at a high level.

Reading other reviews we were excited to eat here but we felt let down by the lack of options, especially vegetarian as vege kebab lacked taste and content. The fish option was not available and when asking the proprietor about options, his response was short and curt. The meat kebabs were ok but nothing special to write home about. So poor options and non friendly staff made for a very disappointed family.

The Powderkeg is the heart of the Powderhorn Chateau and is where the most of the fun tends to begin! Situated at the start of The Old Coach Road, The Powderkeg guarantees a fun and hospitable atmosphere! Many a tall story is told over a cold beer seated at the unforgettable wood furniture.
Had my birthday dinner here at this very pretty, alpine buidling. It was November so low season and wasn't particularly busy. I'm writing this review a couple of months later so cannot really remember what I had but I do know I had a very nice Pomegrante Mojito, and that it was all very nice, and the service was very good. It is reminiscent of places we have stayed in the French and Swiss Alps and right at the foot of the road up to Turoa and the ski fields. We will be returning in August this year.

We had a party of 10 so there was a fair range of starters and mains to comment on and everyone had excellent things to say about their choice, and would happily dine there again

We stopped by for breakfast, the display offered a wide selection of cakes, slices, muffins, scrolls, sandwiches... which all looked very tasty but I highly recommend to go for the sweet pancakes, I think these were one of the best pancakes I have ever had, legendary - berries, fresh fruit (pineapple, grapes), grilled banana, whipped cream, complete heaven...

Needed a late breakfast and a coffee - this place fitted the bill.
Staff were friendly and helpful. Two great coffees arrived and a well cooked big breakfast.
The display cabinets were stocked with a range of cakes and sandwiches if you were looking for options to go.
Probably very busy during winter but we found the place clean, spacious and accomodating. The toilets were well appointed and clean.
A plus is there is heaps of parking outside the restaurant ( which is in a side street). We found parking hard to come by in many roadside stops in NZ where the premises were on main roads. No problems here.
I loved the clock wall (pictured).

What a place! We went on a super busy winter weekend in Ohakune. Every place was packed and we were recommended to come here. Luckily there were 2 free booths for our group even though the place was pumping. We were greeted by a super friendly and humorous waiter who ensured we were well looked after and happy even though there was a long wait for food. The wait was certainly worth it as the food was spot on and delicious. All the wait and bar staff are a credit to this place and make the visit really enjoyable regardless of how busy they are. This will definitely be our go to in Ohakune from now on!

Ohakune takes the laid back approach to the limit. OCR serves “Breakfast” but does not open until 8.45 AM. We wanted to be on the road early, therefore the opening time was a bit inconvenient. The food was good but nothing exceptional.

Locally owned and operated restaurant. Family friendly. Open all year round seven days a week.
Ate here last night, shared some small plates, they were so good! Completed the Tongariro Crossing today and wanted some good, tasty food for dinner so did not think twice about going back here. I had the stuffed mushrooms and friend had the fish of the day.
Food great, staff friendly and attentive, quick service
You should definitely eat here!
