The shrines and temples of Nikko have been recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Here, you can visit the Toshogu Shrine, which dates from the 17th century and is a monument to (and the mausoleum of) Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of a shogunate that ruled Japan for 250 years. Travelers day-tripping from Tokyo generally focus on the sacred sites, but if you have extra time, explore the area’s beautiful waterfalls and lakes.

On a free night from our Tour we decided, on the recommendation of our Tour Leader, to attend the Steak House.
The place was not pretentious but they seated us quickly and presented Menus in English. The choice was very good with a number of cuts of steak although my wife ordered the Pork Ribs. The look on her face with the size of the plate was interesting.
Drinks were a reasonable price.
All in all a very enjoyable meal.

Our shop is located at the entrance of world heritage sunlight. In order to mainly entertain a foreign visitor, I take out a sunlight noted product "soy-milk-skin dish" and home cooking of Japan with a cheap price. You can also respond and enjoy vegetarians in comfort.
We stayed in nikko for 2 nights and ate here both times, the man running the place is so friendly- he gives everyone a complementary cup of matcha tea, glass of water and a sweet to take home, they cater for vegtarians, the food is good, fast service- it comes out hot and fresh and its really reasonable in price

We were glad to have had dinner at this restaurant in Nikko. We are wagyu fanatics and this restaurant is right up our street, offering wagyu beef from many places in Japan, even Sendai (which was the cheapest BTW). The set started with beef consomme, roast beef appetizer and chilled whole tomato. For the main, we chose the famous Maesawa wagyu from Iwate Prefecture. The beef was perfectly seared and served sizzling on a hotplate, juicy and full of flavor. We finished the course with fried rice and crepe Suzette. Coffee was served while we settled the bill in the adjacent lounge area. Service was impeccable and attentive. Highly recommended.
The restaurant is half way up the hill so it is necessary to take a taxi. Walking from town might take 30 minutes but the road is very dark at night and might be dangerous due to the traffic.

We tried the dango, oshiruko and matcha. All of them were delicious and cute. The warm dishes in the middle of the snow and in front of the waterfall is just beautiful. Amazing experience

Having walked all the way from our hotel at bus stop 12 and gone sightseeing at the Imperial Villa and Toshogu Shrine, we were in need of a break and late lunch. We stumbled upon this eclectic yet charming spot near the edge of town on the second floor with picture windows overlooking the neighborhood. My partner had a croque madame, nicely executed but marred a bit by the quality of the cheese. I had a delicious yuba flan--you'd never guess there was tofu in it--with a yummy caramel sauce. The coffee was fine and the cocoa was delicious. This appears to be a place where you can just order a beverage and hang out for a while. Good jazz in the background.

Just great. This is a vegan place so do not expect meat but this is first vegan place that myself as a meat-lover really liked. Food is fresh and very tasty, teas and coffee are also organic and very good. The place is humble outside but inside you get real Japanese experience with basic but nice wooden interior. I definitely recommend that place!

We are here with a family of five. The food was all excellent--mushroom salad was divine, the rainbow trout fried was lovely. The views from up top are beautiful. The price is a bit high but I suppose that's expected at a touristy location.

This restaurant located near Nikko Toshogu. So after visiting Toshogu, this restaurant is convenient for Lunch. This restaurant established 1977 for western style cuisine. It really wonderful service, atomosphere and offer tasty cuisine. There are many visitors at lunch time, so it's better to book.

Evening meals and restaurants in general are hard to find in Nikko. But Enya is open late and has great food. We had a great beef "shabu-shabu" for very reasonable prices. Extra meat plates are unlimited. It is easy to find (w/o an English name) as it is just across the street and up another 100 meters from the Nikko firehall which is on the main street.
