Things to do in Newport

There was nothing wrong with the food... it was just all rather tired. Grubby menus, few specials and a rather dated selection. Everything tasted like your mother would have made in the eighties... there is nothing exciting yet it is rather expensive. Disappointing ...

At first glance, Newport may seem a fairly unlikely venue for some lively evening entertainment. When the group of lads I was with landed here, our aim was to make the best of the situation, our original booking in Nevin's of Mulranny having been "lost" (cf. my unimpressed review of that establishment). Well, it turns out that fates were smiling on our group of cycling stags... Our mini-pub crawl ended in Walsh's Bridge Inn and there ensued much merriment, darts and more singing than you could shake an average-sized Mayo man at. Thanks to the wonderful staff, the welcoming locals and especially the angelic-voiced girl who led the Newport singing (too much Guinness imbibed to remember your name - sorry)!

The food presentation is a visual piece of art with each course cleverly presented in unusual ways. The combination of flavors is awesome. The Seating was excellent with large amounts of space between tables. That was my 6th visit and to make a long story short the food is still top quality.

As a regular dine-out person in Westport, I visited this restaurant to see if it still had that certain ‘something special’ that I had experienced in previous years and the answer is absolutely yes. While the menu has varied, nothing has been lost. The calamari is still the freshest and the steak still a wonderful challenge....and the service and casual ambiance is still just professionally perfect. Always a very lovely experience.

An Port Mór Restaurant is run by Chef-Proprietor Frankie Mallon. Our philosophy is to use seasonal, artisan produce from local suppliers. House specialities include pot roasted pigs cheeks with black pudding & apple and vanilla sauce and 21 day dry-aged sirloin. The main emphasis is, however, on local fresh seafood and shellfish, particularly lobster, crab, scallops and langoustines fresh from the west coast of Ireland, especially Clew Bay.
Lovely restaurant with a nice menu selection. We had a lovely meal early in the evening. The menu choices we nice and my wife, who is coeliac, was able to find options to her liking. We had a nice bottle of wine with our dinner. The waitress was both knowledgeable and helpful. Would recommend it for a meal when visiting Westport.

Another lovely meal, great service and fine food, went for the early bird again, however in comparison to Sage, its perhaps now not quite as good!

Kelly's Kitchen specialised in home cooked food. Open for Breakfast from 9am, we serve all the tasty produce of Kelly's Family Butchers next door. For lunch we have a special board from noon which changes daily and the table menu includes a choice of main courses such as Irish Stew, Mixed Grill and the House Speciality Kelly's Mixed Gourmet Sausage Plate or Award winning Black & White Pudding Plate. We have a selection of light bites such as Sandwiches, Salads & quiches. Home Bakes dessert, Scones and Breads are all freshly made by Kelly's Kitchen in house Baker.Kelly's Kitchen provides a true taste of the area you are visiting.
This was my second visit to Kelly's Kitchen, a handy establishment to stop by while cycling the Greenway. It is a very cozy (i.e., small!) restaurant but service is speedy so it is not a long wait for a table and the food makes the wait worth it!
On my last visit, I managed to land a table outside and thoroughly enjoyed the most delicious vegetable soup and brown bread. This time I got a table inside and ordered the chicken Sandwich with bacon. Mindful of the time since I had a shuttle to catch, I was a little worried that it would take a while to receive my order but there was no need to worry. A delectable Sandwich with a tasty side salad was placed in front of me before I knew it from the lovely waitress. I only had time to eat half the Sandwich and took the rest to go, which I enjoyed later in Mulranny on a beautiful grassy hill overlooking the ocean.
I highly recommend Kelly's Kitchen for wonderful food, served quickly at reasonable prices.

Nevins is situated on the Great Western Greenway & The Wild Atlantic Way at the mid point between Achill and Westport.
Had dinner here with family members. We had a reservation and got a table immediately.
The menu had many offerings to suit all tastes. We shared the nachos and the wings for starters. Both were large portions and sufficient for sharing. For the mains, we tried the baked cod, the fillet steak, a chicken curry and the monkfish and jumbo prawns. All dishes were very well presented and the food was of a high quality and delicious. The staff were very attentive and helpful and were buzzing around the place.
The owner dropped by to see how we were enjoying our meal. This was a nice touch and made diners feel that their custom was appreciated. If the customer is satisfied and enjoys the experience then a return visit is highly likely. Here’s one customer that will be back!!

A traditional style award winning bar and restaurant located just outside Westport, Co. Mayo over looking Clew Bay not far from Westport Harbour….
We called in to Cronin's recently for an evening meal. What struck us straight away was the friendliness of the staff and of the locals. We chose a seafood platter as a sharing plate (and a good job we did!) which was huge, very well presented and delicious. We are suckers for the s/f platter and have seldom had one to equal this. We did indulge in a dessert, again on a sharing basis and this rounded off an excellent and economically priced evening meal. The menu range is not huge, which we count as a good sign, but varied enough to suit most tastes. Definitely on the return visit list.

This is one stop on the bicycle routes around the area. It was a perfect stop after an hour ride out to the country. Lots of cakes and treats to choose from. One staff recommended the pistachio-lime cake ( which she admitted sounded unusual). OH my goodness....it was a slice of heaven. The carrot cake was also good. Skip the raspberry cake...kinda ordinary. Cute place, with a very small front area. Back of building is a large area w picnic tables if the weather is good. Also, they have bike racks in back which was helpful.
