The experience at The Lord Bute was wonderful, from beginning to end. It was a full restaurant and considering that the staff were amazing, especially the tall waitress with blonde hair. She catered us to everything we desired. Excellent food and service, overall a fantastic evening.

It is two years since my wife and I dined at this restaurant. We decided to retry and were not disappointed. Today we were made very welcome both on arrival and in the restaurant itself. The food was excellent in all aspects of choice, cooking...MoreDear dinners, Thank you for your lovely Sunday lunch review. My partner and I went yesterday for lunch after receiving a recommendation. After looking at the vast choices on the menu I decided on the mixed grill and my partner had one of the pies. There was so much to choose from. I have never had a mixed grill before and after ordering it I did think maybe I should have gone for something smaller as we were told the meal sizes were very generous. My partner said the pie was lovely it was filled with chicken, ham and leek. The mixed grill..... what can I say, it was amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would definitely have it again. However as the puddings looked amazing I would probably have to have a smaller main just so I could try one.

Lovely menu, fab food and excellent service. A bit pricey but enjoyed eating in the restaurant and then having coffee on the Terrace overlooking the sea. Felt a little under-dressed as this was an impromptu visit.

There's a lot to like about the Rising Sun. It has good views of the New Forest, it's relaxed, it's cool with people with dogs and/or children. Nothing stuffy or pretentious, which is great. The serving staff are friendly, they check in about whether things are ok, and they do it well - attentive but not overbearing. But - and I'm afraid it's a bib but - the food's not top notch. It's fairly priced so it's not a rip off at all. Portions are generous, and this may well be what the clientele are looking for. But for me, if the Sun wanted to go up a level, it could save a bit on quantity, and go up two levels on quality - delicacy, seasoning, presentation, finesse - and present meals that you couldn't cook at home. That'd elevate the Sun to a place of local excellence.

We were passing by and wanted to have some lunch. Very interesting dining room with bird cages hanging from the ceiling. My whitebait was a little dry and provided with a thimble of tartar sauce (would have asked for more had a waitress been around),...MoreWe really appreciate your feedback; thank you for taking the trouble to post your review. We have taken your comments on board and do hope you will visit us again.

Traditional, family run cafe since 1989, open 364 days a year from 9am. We serve breakfast and lunch, hot and cold drinks and various cakes and snacks. We are fully licensed.
Our favourite coffee and cake cafe, with a view to die for. I go there more than twice a week, after a clifftop walk. Sit inside or outside if the weather is good. Good but dogs are allowed and sometimes they can be a pest, or is it the owners? I'm not sure.

Our Highcliffe fish and chip shop is very good but now we've found an even better one.
Brown's at Somerford has a very small restaurant attached to the takeaway. Early on a Friday lunchtime, many tables were already reserved. It's very popular with locals who often reserve on a regular basis so it's not uncommon to be asked to share.
Large Cod was reasonably priced and perfectly cooked in 'light' batter. Other batter options were available including gluten free. Chips were excellent. A portion of mushy peas was shared.
The lunchtime offer of hake and chips with a hot drink, peas and bread/butter looked very good value. Our only slight disappointment was that we didn't really like the blend of tea. We had a really nice one later at Stewarts (hint, hint..).
Service was very friendly and efficient. Looks like this will become our regular f & c lunchtime haunt - but we must remember to book.
