Nazare, named after the Biblical “Nazareth” in the 4th century, is Portugal’s most famous fishing village, now becoming important as well in the world of big wave, tow-in surfing. The tallest wave ever recorded being surfed – by a Hawaiian big-wave surfer – was off Nazare.

We stopped at this great restaurant at the suggestion of our tour guide (Philip) who often goes there with his family. Very popular with the locals and confident in their restaurant in the fact that there is absolutely no signage on their building, just a white building.
Very expansive menu. Very good portions and excellent food. We had two cod entrée’s with a shared salad, along with a great bottle of green wine and a single coffee. Total bill was 42.95 EUR which was very reasonable. It’s always a good sign of quality when locals stand in line for a seat!

We met Maria, a native of Nazare, who told us about this place so we went there our first night and were not disappointed. Wonderful food and atmosphere and very good prices. We had a fish soup and fried shrimp entree, followed by the grilled fish for 2 which came with salad and boiled potatoes. It was all excellent, washed down with a half litre of house red and a glass of white. Finished up with an almond cake, total €40, which is brilliant value. Still drooling at the memory of the fish. The only disappointment was we couldn't book again for the following night as the owner is having a well deserved night off.

Usually, people waiting for tables is a good sign. Luckily, today it was. We only had to wait 10 minutes and as we were chatting to others it was fine. Prompt and friendly service. Good food and wine. No flourishes, just good food. A super lunch.

The tavern 8 o 80 is the second home of a family business with scrolls on Nazarene and national restoration, the first being the tavern D Adelia. With one foot in the sand, the sea on the horizon, the eye loses itself in a decor that transports us to the ancient taverns, but where the refinement and good taste are of a contemporary environment. Situated on the beach of Nazare, 8 Tavern Restaurant o 80 is the ideal space for a meal on the waterfront, a late afternoon or early evening in one of the most beautiful Beaches of the central region. Let yourself be enchanted by the traditions of this fishing village and enjoy the best wine list by the glass, in 2013 highlighted by "Revista de Vinhos", or if you prefer, a gin made to your liking and measure! Literally just got back from our delicious meal at Taverna do 8 o 80 served by the best waiter João and had to review this place. It came highly recommended by the locals and is an excuisite combination of traditional and modern food. Everything was brilliant and I couldn’t fault the restaurant. Service was impeccable and the recommendations by João were faultless. We tried the sea bream ceviche, fried goats cheese and veal steak for two. Easily one of the best meals we have had in Portugal and an experience I felt needed to be shared.

Days off Wednesday Thursday at lunch time
To who they say Portuguese food is good but not well presented, tell them to come to Nazare and eat at Tosca. Super good food super well presented, great wine. A perfect spot. My octopus with bacon and mushroom was great, just a little too salty maybe.

2 minutes from the centre square of Nazare a nice fish restaurant. Busy during mid-day. The waiter is very helpful, you don't know the fish? He will show it to you. All fresh.
I had the smoked squid, liked it very much. The Cardinal fish was awsome. Another ocean fish predator fish which I don't recall the name was great too.

Super professional service with limited but delicious vegetarian options - had bread and olvies to start, then potato skins, grilled mushrooms (both of which suitable for vegans) plus scrambled eggs with spinach, excellent food, great atmosphere, silky house red and a complimentary glass of it to end the night. Quality food and zero fuss. Loved it.
