Local expats know this place as the German Restaurant or just Dieter's. Dieter and his wife are lovely people, the food is fantastic--the best schnitzel I've ever had (not just good for Asia). They also bake their own bread and deliver it to residents in the Khanom district. The view is wonderful.
The only problem is that Laem Phra Thap is a bit off the beaten path. It's one of the places you can go to do Pink Dolphin Tours, but you need to get yourself there by car or scooter (unless you're on a hired tour). Dieter has parking for cars and scooters, if you want to avoid paying at the dolphin boat launch. All in all, it's a great reason to take a day trip up to the cape. The view of the cape from the road into the village is gorgeous, and you can chill out on the little beach near the village and look across to Samui.
No stay in Khanom is complete with a visit to Dieter's. Ask any expat in Khanom for directions :-)
(Note that the place closes down in summer as the owner and his wife go home to visit Germany)

This "traditional style" Thai cafe also serves excellent Chinese Breakfasts, Dim Sum and light meals throughout the day!! The numerous decorations are very interesting,as are the selection of beverages. One can also meet other interesting "locals" and travellers!! It will be remembered as a very enjoyably place to have spent some time!!

Difficult to find a proper southern restaurant in town, here is the one which represent a real southern food. We can choose an ingredient for cooking, various local vegetable choices.
Seems they open all day (until 4.00am), plenty of parking lot. Price is a bit higher than average but acceptable.

We were travelling in Thailand and we stopped by in kha nom beach, for a few days, here we came across a gem in the middle of no-where!
Whatever you could pick from the menu, it is going to be a mustache-licking result!
Thai food is prepared with care and simplicity with great result, but is when you go for Italian food that you are shocked with tradition and taste!
Umberto, the chef and owner is the soul af the restaurant! He is standout! Tell me, have you ever found a restaurant in the middle of nowhere that makes home made gnocchi, tagliatelle, ravioli and bread? We haven't...but we have now! Umberto cooked for us gnocchi with "sugo al granchio espresso" crab sauce made at the moment, and my mouth goes watery only at the thought of it! After we shared "gamberoni ciao bella", king prawns cooked in cognac sauce: to die for!
At that stage he gained all our trust so we asked him a suggestion for dessert, and he went straight away for his homemade chocolate mousse. OMG! Simple and crazy-good!!
Of course we came back again the day after to try ! Thin, cooked to perfection and tasty! We had classical margherita to share as starter and then we asked Umberto if he could cook for us only the crabs of the day before, but with no gnocchi, because that sauce was unbelievable! We didn't want to leave the place! We asked if he wanted to come and cook for us for the rest of our trip!
It will be very difficult to find such good cooking away from home, really!
The service is very nice as well, with Umberto's wife and family always prompt to provide smiles and tips for places to visit!
In the end, the prices are very reasonable and the portion are BIG!
Worth to try if you are in the are!
Grazie Umberto!

Stopped in for lunch on our way to our hotel. Comprehensive menu in a huge restaurant (very few customers mid week)
Food was very good so went back for dinner. Langoustes were fresh; excellent fried with garlic and black pepper. Freshwater prawns were also good.
Highly recomend this restaurant
