Mwanza is a mid-sized port city on the southern eastern shores of Lake Victoria in north western Tanzania. With a population of over 800,000, it is at the moment Tanzania's second largest city, after Dar es Salaam. Mwanza is the capital of the surrounding Mwanza Region but it is splitted and actually covers two of the seven districts of the region (Ilemela to the North, and Nyamagana to the South), which are administered separately (they are themselves subdivided respectively into ten and twelve wards).

We were ravenous and needed somewhere quick to eat. Starters were tasty enough, veg spring rolls and chicken wings.
All the mains were cheap and cheerful. Veg stir fry and Indian were ok. Best place to eat on the street to fill your belly. Can cater quickly for a hungry crowd.

Hotel Tilapia is a hotel with great ambiance. Situated along Capri Point on the serene shores of Lake Victoria and only minutes away from town. It is a place where you can relax at our Nirvana Spa, sunbathe at the swimming pool, enjoy a delicious meal at one of the restaurants or cocktails at the famous SP Bar. If you are planning a business trip, Hotel Tilapia provides a business center, conference facilities and a FREE wireless network throughout the hotel. And with its perfect location and most amazing view, Hotel Tilapia is the ideal place for your stay in Mwanza.
The quality of the food was very good, but it did take some time to arrive. This didn't matter as we were a group together, but could be a problem if you were in a hurry. The garlic naan was especially excellent and worth trying, whatever your main course.

This is a budget Hotel with a central location but way off the mark for hospitality. The staff is unfriendly, poorly trained and uninformed. There is a nightclub off the lobby which stays open all night. Good luck sleeping through the noise on rock hard mattresses. When you go down for breakfast you'll discover strangers sleeping on couches in the lobby and the receptionist doing the same in the back office. Ditto in the restaurant. When you are the guest waking up the staff it gets you thinking. Oh - there is no door security so when drunk patrons start fighting outside the restaurant at 6am it makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside. The food is poor and badly prepared. This was one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had. If you take one of the drivers from the airport be prepared for him to take unnecessary risks in traffic, passing into oncoming traffic while you have kids in the back. This place is all over the shop.

Last day of our visit, recommended by someone who lives there. the restaurant looked nice & inviting. Menu had a good choice, mainly Indian. Service was good, fortunately only order one rice, there was enough for an army, an very good reasonably priced meas.

Close to the airport, which is nice if you want to have a meal on your way out or in. Food took a long time, some items were not available - but the lovely view on the beach made up for it.

TripAdvisor has postings under Malaika Beach Resort, but this is the restaurant at the resort.
The surrounding area is beautiful and well maintained, the perfect place for a sundowner. I did not have the best meal as it was over cooked and very dry but overall the place is very nice. Worth a visit and to see.

I stayed at the hotel for a week during a work assignment. The accommodation is very comfortable and spacious with beautiful views over Lake Victoria and on the nearby national park which is located on a nearby island. Breakfast consists of all the basic and local fruits. The menu offers a good variety and their dishes is very tasteful and sufficient. Rooms are daily serviced, Wi-Fi is good in off-peak period but at the restaurant it is good all the time. Management and staff are very helpful and laundry service is good.
