Excellent! Food is prepared after the order is received. Some soup to start your adventure. I really like the yellow pad, which is served at a mild pepper level. I will go for 4-5 on occasion ( very hot ). The owner is very interested in providing the best meal possible. It's a treat for us to eat here.

Laura's Cheesecake

Today, Laura’s is owned and operated by Jeffery and Leah Crabb who both have a desire to share love and friendship through good food and desserts. With new ideas and a fresh approach to recipe development, Laura’s is changing and growing daily while staying true to its roots of gourmet cheesecakes, made by hand and with love, fresh from scratch. Additionally, Laura’s remains a busy lunch location in downtown Mount Pleasant every weekday with a lunch menu that aims to bring people and groups together for the business of life. The vision behind today’s growth is to see people connected through community at the table. Whether over a cup of hot coffee, a fresh salad, or a delicious, over the top slice of Laura’s Cheesecake.

We have lived in the area for 2+ years, and have visited Laura's for lunch a number of times. Previously, we had grown somewhat tired of their offerings. Recently, we stopped in for lunch. My wife got another grilled chicken salad (consistently served as a big plate of lettuce with grilled chicken on it + choice of pre-packaged dressing). I got a 'special' which consisted of 1/2 of a Cheesesteak sandwich + a bowl of their home made potato soup.

My wife at hers, leaving about 1/2 of the 'lettuce' on the plate. Not bad, just really not a 'salad'.

When my food was delivered from the kitchen, the bowl of potato soup was simply cold. I took it back to get warmed, and ate my 1/2 of a sandwich. The sandwich consisted of approximately smaller sized bites. It was okay, just not very much at all. After I finished the sandwich, the chips, dill pickle and all the soup came back out. Took at least 15 minutes to 'heat'. It was hot, and certainly not bad - just served wrong and didn't go with the meal.

In short, I really do not understand why so many people go here to eat. It is simply not that good. The value is not there and the choices are limited. Never tried their cheesecake (might be very good) as I typically do not like most of the commercial cheesecakes that are made and served. Again, not judging the cheesecake - just do not typically order it anywhere.

Mt. Pleasant Burgers & Fries

Reviewed By enam63

We ordered burger and fries.
The fries were delicious and homemade.
The burger, although had good flavour, was severely overcooked.
The quality of meat was repugnant.
Pieces of sinew got stuck in the teeth.
It could be a decent place, but quality of meat and cooking needs to be improved, immediately.

It is not uncommon for my mother, my daughter and me to meet up here at his local favorite restaurant for lunch--three generations loving the light but tasty salads, sandwiches , quiches or soups--delightfully perfectly tasteful without overwhelming you with megaportions all too common at other restaurants. So, after the meal, returning to work is not accompanied by that sluggish after Thanksgiving dinner feeling.
My favorite is the Triple Salad selection. This order allows you the privilege of choosing any 3 of their many variable salads. I like the strawberry spinach salad coupled with the chicken salad; then for the third portion I sometimes close my eyes and just pick. Never been disappointed.
Mother prefers the Southwest Quiche with a cup of fresh fruit--just spicy enough without being overbearing.
ALWAYS save room for a portion of homemade pie--even if you must split it with your tablemate. My preference is the caramel pie--it comes warmly heated fresh to your table.
So, is you want a "special touch" for your day, drop by this tea room. You will not regret it.

The menu prices were more affordable than I expected. Usually Italian restaurants are a bit pricey. The food portions were also generous. They do not accept all credit cards and of course do not accept personal checks. They do accept debit cards. You may want to explore which credit cards they do take if you are traveling and stop in.

Sushi in rural Texas? Exceedingly hard to come by. Good sushi in Texas? Awesome!

We were greeted very warmly by an older gentlemen at the entrance. All the staff were attentive and friendly. Superb service all around, which I greatly appreciate.
The restaurant was very clean. Great concept. Prices were moderate, but similar to sushi prices in larger cities.

I had the wok bowl and she had two sushi rolls. Both were very well prepared and out quickly. Food was as tasty as our favorite spot back home and we eat a lot of sushi.
We sat on the patio. It was beautiful and a nice little spot.

If I lived in the area I would come back (a lot) but I live over 1000 miles away so that makes it difficult.

Herschel's Restaurant

Reviewed By LoneStarTrvlr - Hudson Oaks, TX

From out of town looking for home style cooking. The chicken fried steak, gravy, fried okra and baked potato were very good. I appreciated the fact that a baked potato was available for the same price as other veggie choices. This is not the case in most places. The fried okra was crisp and fresh. My friend had a chicken salad which was a large portion and tasty. The prices were in line with D/FW area prices. When they came to clear the table they offered a bowl of complementary ice cream. The ice cream was very good. I will go back if ever in the area again.
