This restaurant is an absolute gem of a place. I have been there several times and never been disappointed. They almost always have a featured dish based on one of the 50 states which adds great variety to the menu. The staff, including the owner are very responsive and engaging which adds to the experience. Moderately priced but well worth it. Highly recommend.

Stopped by to pick up lattes before visiting our extended family nearby. They had no problem handling an 8 latte order including a frapuccino as well as different lattes and special requests. Our order was correct and done in a shorter amount of time than I would have expected.

My wife and I walked the Watkin's Park trail which leads up into old town Mount Airy. Then we proceeded down Main Street to Cryin' Johnnies for some lunch. We ordered a Sloppy Dog and a Sour Dog, a Regular Fry and some Iced Tea. Man, we split the dogs and fries and tea and were stuffed. Great Dogs!

My wife and I had another dinner here and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Again. A Brisket Burnt Ends dinner and a Beef Brisket Platter with a CarterQue Brew was all that was needed. Well, we absolutely needed the Black Raspberry BBQ sauce on the meat. Never forget that.

Four adults (two couples) for a pizza dinner, Saturday night. Couple of overall observations: The place is warm and charming, noise level is high, interesting selection of craft beers, decent selection of wines, outstanding service by the young lady who was our server.
Parking might be a problem if you're not aware of the parking around the corner on the other side of the street.
Two pizzas ordered. One sausage and red onions; the other red pepper, mushroom and pepperoni. Everyone extremely satisfied. One couple found the amount of red onion rather skimpy, but still an excellent pizza. Relatively thin crust, cooked perfectly.
So why not five stars instead of four? My personal opinion is that you can't give a restaurant five stars on the basis of pizza alone.
Bottom line: Of course we'll go back and try some of the other dishes. Maybe next time, five stars.

innovative seasonal menus emerging from the collision of ingredients and cultures to create BOLD flavors and new-American dishes.
We took advantage of Howard County Restaurant Week to try this place and we were delighted! We will definitely be back often as the food is very good, the price points reasonable, the service excellent and the atmosphere upscale but not snotty. We each loved...MoreThank you very much for joining us at BOLDER. I look forward to your return. ellie

A group of Genealogy friends met here today for an informal get together. Everyone was very happy with the food they ordered and most took some home as they were large helpings. Will go back for our next get together .

Relatively new
Thanks to all of the other great reviews, meeting my husband's parents here for dinner (~30 minutes away from both Ellicott City and Frederick where they were staying) seemed like a good idea. It was!
Four of the five of us ordered Dinner Boxes which were delightful and generous bento boxes full of delicious and varied menu items -- teryaki (shrimp, chicken or salmon), light and crispy tempura, california roll, rice, and a couple of tasty dumplings, preceded first by miso soup and a light salad. Everyone enjoyed the food.
The atmosphere is festive and tastefully decorated. The staff members were all friendly and attentive. The miso soup wasn't super hot when served, and the salads were all a bit heavy on the ginger dressing, but all in all this was a great family restaurant with lots of variety in a lovely part of Maryland that seems to have "a little bit of everything" without being in a big city.

Went off interstate to get gas and a bite. Thought this sounded like a quant place with some atmosphere. Not and old place but a newer restaurant. Staff friendly and we both got fish and chips. Fish was a little to greasy for us. Looked like pizza would have been better bet. Just ok nothing to go out of the way for. Waitress was gone about 10 min with our credit card which was a little weird.

In 3 years I've loved every meal eaten here. The vast majority of ingredients are imported from Italy. It's a crime they've not been listed before, shame on me!
This is our favorite Italian restaurant in Mount Airy. It's casual, which is great for families. I love the Chicken Marsala and the caprese salad. We've tried a lot of options and they are all good and reasonably priced. You can also BYOB which is nice. Friendly atmosphere but it does get crowded at peak times and there is always a swift carry out business.
