Agreed that service was so so but the food was simple and good. Staff weren't attentive probably because they're busy. Pici was chewy and fresh. The tomato soup came with a surprise as it looked and tasted like tomato sauce. Tiramisu was very good.

The food and service was very good. All pastas were fresh and flavorful, especially the cinghiale/wild boar. Delicious. House wine Ali's good and less expensive. It's a must try in Montalcino.

After examining the menus of a number of ristoranti in this charming Tuscan town, we decided to have dinner at Taverna del Grappolo Blu, primarily because it featured both cinghiale (wild boar) and pappa al pomodoro, a traditional Tuscan cold tomato soup. I had both and my Lady Love had the ribollita - a bread and vegetable soup - and rabbit. Her dishes were very good. While my pappa al pomodoro was very good (not great), the cinghiale (served with polenta) was tough and flavorless. When the manager came by to check on us, I told him that the cinghiale was troppo duro (literally "very hard" meaning tough). He agreed, saying that he had tasted it before the dinner service started. Knowing that the dish was unacceptable, it should have been removed from the menu. Not even a half bottle of the famous Montalcino Brunello, cantucci con vin santo, or torte ricotta could overcome my disappointment. It was a shame because the ristorante had great ambiance and we had only one night in Montalcino to have dinner.

Our first visit to this restaurant was in September, 2015. Two years later, we came back: my husband and I, along with the same couple we were with previously. Once again, we loved this restaurant. So much so that we dined here twice during the week we were in the Montalcino area. The pastas and meat dishes are simple, with quality, local ingredients, perfectly prepared, and beautifully presented. The cinguale ragu is a favorite, as is the brasato and the savory soups. The desserts are impossible to resist. (Theirs is my favorite tiramisu in Italy...so far, anyway.) We enjoyed other restaurants during our time in Montalcino, however, coming to Re di Macchia is always a special occasion, where you can count on a delicious meal in a fun and festive atmosphere. Antonio, as always, is a warm and generous host. We will ALWAYS return here, to our favorite restaurant in Montalcino. Grazie, Antonio e Roberta.

Sometimes a restaurant owner should know when to say “no”. The night we ate at Leccio’s more and more people were waiting for a table and apparently, they did not want to turn them down, so they kept adding tables on the Terrace. This was at the expense of people already seated. The service was very, very slow. Too slow. The food was nothing special, but not bad.

It's hard for me to give a low score but our experience at this restaurant was disappointing despite paying 132 euros for dinner for two.
We arrived a bit early, were greeted by staff and invited to the dining room. All lovely set up with nice music in the background. We went for the tasting menu and a nice bottle of Brunello, great start. Other guests started arriving, a smartly dresses American couple with two boys aged 7-8, all behaving in a nice manner and dressed for a nice meal. Another couple smartly dressed. All started good and from there it started going down hill. A family of 6 arrived with two toddlers, all people super noisy, men wearing shorts, sporty trainers. Kids with ipads and a plastic toy guitar, running around the dining room and playing music, climbing on the table, all of it at around 9pm. The concept of bedtime for toddlers clearly alien to this family. We asked for a change of seat and were moved to another room as one nice fella offered to swap (still feel awkward thinking about it).
The food was of good quality but the portions were small and we left hungry. We are familiar with the concept of fine dining, having experienced Heston Blumental and many Michelin starred restaurants in the UK, but we never left any of them hungry.
The restaurants clearly delivers good quality food, the staff are friendly but our wine or water weren't topped up even once. We were hoping for a sophisticated and romantic dinner and experienced a weird canteen setting for misbehaving toddlers. We are not against dining with kids, there were two boys aged 6-7 who behaved well, no problems there but a place which offers a selection of expensive wine (some bottles€300 plus) and a tasting menu is not a place for high chairs and toddlers.

We have been to Il Pozzo twice now and it has become one of our favorite restaurants. It is located on a small town south of Montacino called Sant Angelo en Colle. The food is excellent and the value is exceptional. It is worth the extra little drive if you are going to be in the Montalcino region.

A classical Tuscan restaurant in the shade of our medieval castle of Poggio alleMura. Taverna Banfi, open for lunch, is positioned beneath the vaulted arches of the former barrel cellars of the castle where Brunello once rested in large oak casks. In a very pleasant atmosphere, our menu offers the traditional dishes of Montalcino and Tuscany, enhanced by the freshness and authenticity of local ingredients. To respect the calm of our guests, pets are not allowed.
Had an enjoyable lunch at this restaurant. Went for the a la carte menu (which you have to ask for as they try to get you to go for the tasting menu). Scallops to start were cooked well and the pinci with wild boar ragu was nice, though it was a tad on the salty side and was not as good as the ragu we had at Castiglion del Bosco.

This is a little gem, on the road to Montalcino in a tiny town of Sant Angelo Scalo. The chef is utterly brilliant and uses local ingredients. The cheese mousse with pear and honey has to be tasted to be believed. It is the food of angels. The spaghetti with courgette and pistachio pesto was so good we travelled the next day to get it again. Everyone was absolutely thrilled with the delicious plates of food. The desserts were also outstanding including a cheesecake that was so delicate and light. We ate in the garden. The cafe inside is decorated very simply and the surroundings aren't spectacular, but if the food is this great who cares. Service was efficient and friendly. t is closed on Monday.
