We visited this restaurant based on its excellent reviews. Very disappointing. Calamari was barely lukewarm with breading falling off the seafood. Veal parm was a huge piece of tough veal with an overabundance of fried coating smothered in sauce with chewy dry cheese on top. Tagliatelle bolognese has good pasta with a bland tomato sauce full of large pieces of bulk sausage. ???? Not appealing at all. Shrimp scampi had a thick yellow creamy sauce unlike any we'd ever tried or would want to ever try again. Pizza crust was mediocre and tasted pre-made. Everyone's meal appeared pre-made and re-heated. Don't know if that's the case because we weren't in the kitchen but that's what it tasted like. Bread was very good. Service was very good. Ambience is strip mall basic. Storefront faces the parking lot and you enter facing a takeout counter and a glass case with soft drinks. Dining room tables are small and close together and chairs are not comfortable. This is the top rated restaurant in Modesto? Makes no sense. Will not return.

For years we have loved Dewz. We not only celebrate birthdays and anniversaries there, but we go there just for a nice dinner for no occasion at all, and in most cases the meals have been very good and worth the money....but not tonight. We went there for my wife's 56th birthday and we had pork ribs as appetizers - which were excellent, we had the Ceasar's salad, which was excellent (as always), and we had the Kobe beef style heart of the rib-eye steak, which costs $45 and was definitely NOT worth the money. One of our steaks was overdone (it came medium to medium well and we ordered them medium rare) and one of the two steaks was MUCH smaller than the other - noticeably smaller - and of course the smaller one was the one they overcooked. Neither of the two steaks came anywhere close to being worth $45. I've had expensive steaks at great steak houses in San Francisco and this wasn't that. This was an average steak. I've cooked much better, much more tender steaks on the grill in my back yard that I've gotten at Costco. The "Kobe style heart of the rib-eye....well, just choose something else.
Worse that the steaks were the side dishes (mashed potatoes and broccoli, both of which were cold....I'm talking at or below room temperature). When we took a fork full of them we just looked at each other in surprise and said, "These are cold!" at the same time. It was shocking, and so disappointing given that we've had so many great dinners at Dewz over many, many years. This was just....BAD. Had this been the first meal we'd ever had at Dewz we wouldn't have ever had a second. It will be some time before we give them another try.

Skewers Kabob House began as a family operation in 2003 and was dedicated to bringing healthy and delicious fare to Modesto. That same mission still holds true today, shown by their exceptional lunch and dinner menus, relaxing Mediterranean atmosphere, and pleasurable service. At Skewers, there's really something for the whole family! Bring the kids to eat for free Saturday and Sunday between 12pm and 4pm, enjoy a Mediterranean-style belly dancing show every Saturday, relax with a half-off bottle of wine on Wednesdays, or relax late into evening in our bar patio on the weekends. So whether you're looking to book a private party in one of their two Banquet Halls, or simply want to enjoy some family time with great food, Skewers Kabob House is an excellent choice!
My wife and some friends of ours stopped at Skewers as we were driving through Modesto on our way to Yosemite. We hit the restaurant mid-afternoon (off peak) but were received in a very welcoming and friendly manner. Our food was delivered quickly and was...MoreThanks for your continued support Dave!!!!!

I love the fresh menu choices and quaint eating area. My favorite dish is the pot of chocolate. Melts in your mouth. The food is always fresh and flavorful.

With a very stylish interior, this establishment is dark and cool… A nice place to have a cocktail and dinner on a hot day.
We ordered a variety of rolls, a grilled salmon entrée and the Ahi Tuna Tacos. Everything was fresh and the service was efficient.
If you like Sushi style restaurants, this is one of the nicer ones in the Central Valley.

My parents always choose to go here for their birthday dinner. Never disappointed. Peanuts to shell and eat while waiting to be seated. Food is always good. Restaurant is always busy and loud. Never leave hungry.

Had pot roast sandwich and there is no way you can walk away hungry after mounds of pot roast, gravy, mashed potatoes, and veggies.
Also with an appetizer of fried ravioli filled with cream cheese and cup of excellent clam chowder.
The restaurant also has a wide array of salads, wraps, steaks, seafood, burgers, and more.

I wanted to give this place another chance since my first time wasn't great, and glad I did. It's actually pretty good for a lunch time meal - it's quiet enough for conversation to catch up with a friend and they had a few more options for gluten free. Will come back again.

Large group of family including five kids on way from SF to Yosemite, and we decided to stop at Commonwealth after looking at reviews on TA. Love the cozy neighborhood pub feel of the place and the enthusiastic staff that work there. Were very patient with all of the kids trying to decide what to eat and drink, and we were all very pleased with our meal selections. Best choices we could recommend were the Ruben with incredible homemade sauerkraut, the tacos, the M80 and the chicken bbq sandwich [cant remember its name but one of the staff said it was his favorite]. Also lots of incredible craft beers to choose from and some pretty amazing fries with fresh garlic and parmesan. Yummy.

The sandwiches are made to order and always delicious! You order at a counter and pay at a different counter. You can sit outdoors (beautiful little patio) or inside. It is a bit old fashioned in an eclectic way...art decor in the restroom and kitty cat on the patio, plants, and customers who have eaten there for years and years. It has a warm, homey feel about it. When they named it "Brighter Side," they were on the mark!
